an east and the storm should gradually pull away. there is a winter weather advisory for northern frederick county, an inch to 1.5 inches of snow up there. it goes through carroll county, northern baltimore and cecil counties as well. temperatures are getting close to the freezing point. that means slide accumulations might occur. north of baltimore and colder, grassy areas, overpasses, bridges, and steps. most of the area will just a wet but there could be some slippery spots. we will continue to monitor the storm as it tracks through an update the forecast in a couple of minutes. >> state officials have been preparing for snow over the past 24 hours in advance of the possibility of a messy to me. >> rob roblin joins us from parkville work crews have been busy expecting something to happen. >> tom tasselmyer called it yesterday. he said the temperatures on the

arrived, word of the investigation spread on facebook. detectives went to the dumpster after an adult female contacted baltimore county police, claiming she had put the fee is there. baltimore county police and harford county sheriff's deputies were directed by a woman that said she had given birth earlier that day to an infant that was stillborn and that we should check trash bin. we found a plastic bag containing the fetus. >> is so weird, why you would put it in a dumpster. >> police think an autopsy will result other questions progress the woman is very cooperative and indicated the baby was stillborn. to prove otherwise, that is why the autopsy investigation is being done.

>> police tell us that the birth happened in bellaire at the home of a relative of the woman. right now they are not releasing where. they took the woman to upper chesapeake medical center for treatment. >> it is a great world we are living in that people are putting babies in dumpsters. it is pretty horrible. i don't understand it. >> bellaire police tell us so far no charges have been filed. that are awaiting those autopsy results which they say might take about a month. barry simms, wbal-tv 11 news. >> police have confirmed a 43- year-old baltimore county man was struck and killed while walking along the streets in dundalk last night. happened just after 8:30 at the intersection of north point road and belmont avenue. preliminary investigation revealed that he was in the northbound traveling when a car hit him.

he was taken to johns hopkins bayview where he was pronounced dead. initial reports said the driver of the vehicle was not at all. >> at the trial is already unfolding into an emotional and graphics series of witness accounts in the george huguely murder trial. live. melser woris >> the testimony continues at this hour, but after seating a jury after two long days, opening statements and the commonwealth were -- first witnesses were called to the stand, including yeardley love's mother. the most unexpected statements so far came from the defense as they presented their opening statement, saying that george huguely is not capable of maintaining ally, saying "he is not complicated, he is not complex, he is a lacrosse player." as evidence is officially presented in the george huguely

murder trial, opening statements by both sides take the better of two hours wednesday morning. virginia commonwealth attorney corner chapman's statements mostly surround the night glove was found dead, explaining how george huguely most likely keep open the door to the apartment, leaving the evidence. chapman went on to say that forensic evidence would show love died from blunt force trauma and that it took her two hours to finally died after sustaining her violent injuries to the head. huguely attorney said car relationship was an on again-off again won re cheated on each other throughout, and that tempers flared both ways. he said medical experts which showed that love died from positional asphyxia after mixing and alcohol with drugs.

disappearance. >> health and human services secretary kathleen sebelius is joining forces with the march of dimes to lower the number of babies born prematurely each year. the strong start campaign aims to educate doctors and patients that if a pregnancy is healthy, it is really best to wait for labor to begin naturally instead of being induced are scheduling a cesarean section before the due date. the babies are not only gain weight during last week's but their lungs and brain are still developing. another new report reveals that teen pregnancies have reached their lowest levels in almost 40 years. an estimated 7% of u.s. teens became pregnant in 2008, a drop of 42% from the early 1990's. the report finds that the number of teen births and abortions have both declined dramatically.

be what we have to worry about as it pulls away from the region. the last bit of snow will be falling into cooler air. the potential is there for a light accumulation before it finally moves out later tonight. we have reports of 1.5 inches of snow in frederick county and trace amounts in the northern and western suburbs. that is the problem area in the next couple of hours before the back edge of this gets out of here and we will have clearing skies as we head for tomorrow morning. rain celanese the baltimore and that is how to stay through the rest of this again as it tracked through. -- range south and east of baltimore. the temperatures made it into the low 40's at the airport and the inner harbor. it was colder than that in the northern suburbs. we are close to normal today as far as temperatures go, but a little too warm for major

snowfall. 38 in downtown baltimore right now. closer to freezing as we get near the pennsylvania line, back in northern carol county. in southern pennsylvania, it is around the freezing point. western maryland is already seeing the snow winding down. snowfall potential is only about an inch or so. even the upper eastern for may catch a little bit of that as the system moves away. higher amounts in some of the mountains of west virginia. it looks like it is winding down between 8:00 and 10:00. as it gets close to midnight or a little beyond that it will start to really wind down and move away. by thursday morning we should have mostly clear skies across eastern and central maryland. a couple more hours and this will be gone. close up 36-42.

an ic package could certainly occur, so you want to be careful. -- an icy package. the weather for thursday and friday should be nice. it looks like a burst of arctic air will come sweeping in from the north over the weekend that may bring another chance for snow. sunday tomorrow, a cool day. on the bay, winds out of that nw and waves around 1 foot. the forecast shows the skies clearing and the temperatures warming again. are there sweeps then, the front arrives saturday with snow showers, and by sunday, the chance for a flurry, but 19 in the morning with an afternoon high of only 35. >> just two blocks away from the inner harbor, and early 20th century fire house has been auctioned off. >> more than 18,000 square feet and two stories high.

a slow-growing number of maryland high school students are passing advanced placement exams. this is the fourth year maryland has received the top honor. tim tooten is live in the newsroom. what is their secret of success? >> over the years, maryland seems to have found a way to get more students to take ap courses and passed them. this appears to be paying off. these students have one thing in common, they are all taking four or more advanced placement courses. >> it definitely reflects well to colleges that you try to take the hardest classes you can. i like to think that i take them for the educational value.

>> maryland has caught the attention of the college board that designs the ap courses. maryland students taking the exam and burning a score of 3 or higher is up 1.5% over last year. this study hall help students get ahead and prepare more of them for college. that is not the only motivation. >> i am not just focused on getting the credit for college as i am taking more rigorous courses. those come into play, but i am also taking more challenging courses. >> there are other reasons why students are taking in passing the courses. >> those students generally do better. we think it is because they have been exposed to the river. they have had a college textbooks they have had to use -- that have been exposed ketubahs more rigor. their expectations have been

now. >> here is what we are working on right now. monitoring a wintry mix that is making the rush-hour commuters a bit of a challenge for people in the northern maryland area. >> the winter weather advisory has been lifted, but conditions will continue into the evening. let's check in the tom tasselmyer. he will set the record straight for us. >> we do have a winter weather advisory for the no. counties until 8:00. a couple court hours before it starts to wind down. lighter snow patches tracking through the northern suburbs. temperatures are falling, getting closer to freezing across the northern tier. some of the cameras are showing light accumulation on grassy areas and colder surfaces. an inch of snow is still possible. as we had through the early evening, the system will begin to wind down and pull away from

the region. things have quieted down a bit in the mountains to our west. there is some very cold air and more snow in our weekend forecasts. we'll take a closer look it that in the forecast coming up in a few minutes. >> was breaking news at the top of the 5:00 hour. police and first responders are on the scene of a deadly accident in baltimore county. that accident happen late this afternoon along bellaire road. we are told the vehicles involved collided head on and the road is closed as that investigation continues. testimony is now underway in the murder trial of former cuvier lacrosse player george huguely, who is accused of killing his girlfriend from maryland, yeardley love. cox series of prosecution witnesses included love's family members and a neighbor who reported hearing a loud noise the night of her death. authorities are investigating

the discovery of the body of a newborn infant in a trash bin in harford county. voorhies responded on tuesday night after receiving a report that a woman had dumped her baby into the dumpster, which may have been stillborn. deputies searched the area and found it. the body will be sent to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy. >> neighbors of gerry sandusky are concerned he had been watching their children from his house -- neighbors upper critique neighbors of jerry sandusky. sandusky has been on house arrest since december and wears an electronic monitor on his ankle. he played -- face is 52 counts of child sex abuse involving 10 children over 15-year period lawmakers in annapolis want to

freezing out. with these warm temperatures and the warm winter we have had without frozen ground, precipitation falls and almost just melts on contact. out to the north and west, 1.5 inches of snow on the ground in the colder areas. for the next couple of hours, then the storm is winding down. the national weather service is maintaining this winter weather advisory. some slippery spots could occur in some of those colder northern suburbs and out and western maryland as well. no advisory up for south-central pennsylvania yet. around an inch of slushy snow possible in some of the colder northern sections. as the system moves away, it will drag in some colder air and may be a light coating of snow on some of those eastern shore

the international auto show is pulling through baltimore. it was moving in day at the convention center for this year's motor trend event. manufacturers were preparing their cars for a four-day long event that goes through sunday. anyone who attends can get a firsthand look at the latest models and have an opportunity to climb into some of the cards and perhaps test drive the new vehicles. an historic downtown baltimore fire house now has a new owner. the building has been vacant since 2005. it was auctioned off this afternoon for $900,000. the buyer is not yet being made public. the building is 18,500 square feet and two stories tall. auctioneers say would be ideal for retail or office use. at one point, it it was renovated to the house baltimore city college students. there is an accountant -- there
