ex-girlfriend, yeardly love, during a violent attack in 2010. >> today, a detective gave his account of the injuries he saw on a george huguely after yeardly love's death. >> day 6 of this emotional trial and we finally get to hear from the doctor who performed the autopsy on yeardly love a day after she was found dead. graphic photos of the autopsy were shown to the jury. somewhat distraught. others white away tears. day six of the george huguely murder trial in the morning is consumed with evidence found on his body and in his apartment. before testimony began, the jury was given a copy of a letter found in love's bedroom. this was introduced into evidence on friday and was not read aloud in court on monday. a charlotte supervisor took the stand and gave evidence about

bloodstains and spatter found in glove's apartment. there was also blood stain evidence in george huguely apartment. there was testimony concerning photographs to injuries on george huguely's arms and hands as well as dna evidence gathered from his apartment. in afternoon testimony, the assistant chief medical examiner took the stand. he testified that he performed the autopsy on love on may 4th, 2010 as he went through countless photos documenting his opinion of how she died. most showed bruises all over her body, including what he called major bruises to her left forearm, oval-like bruises on her chest that could have been formed by fingers, he said, and essays 3 inch bruise on her lower back. he -- a 3 inch bruise on her lower back. he also pointed out a hemorrhaged near her neck that could have been caused by

pressure. he went on to say that because of cuts in her mouth and lips, there was evidence of smothering. there was no injury to her nose. if you remember, george huguely told police he witnessed her nose bleeding when he was in her apartment. the court session had to end early because a juror had a prior commitment, but you get a sense that the commonwealth's case will soon be coming to an end. all that is really left is dna analysis. the medical examiner will be called back to the stand to give his opinion on the cause of death. >> a jury has determined that an inmate convicted of killing a corrections officer is eligible for the death penalty. he was found guilty of stabbing a corporal back in 2006. he qualifies to face death under maryland law because biological evidence clinton to the crime and he was principally

responsible -- linked him to the crime and he was principally responsible for the murder. he could be sentenced to death or life in prison without the possibility of parole. >> hundreds of people are expected to gather tonight in annapolis to show their support for the same-sex marriage bill. they are being encouraged to lobby lawmakers for passage of the bill. >> today's rally follows a marathon hearing friday on the governor's bill, the same joint committee that heard the governor's bill also heard legislation calling for a constitutional amendment defining marriage between one man and one woman. rally organizers called this lobby day in annapolis in support of two bills, the religious freedom and protection act, otherwise known as the same sex bill, and the gender discrimination act. they collected some 15,000

postcards and planned to distribute them tonight. several legislators are lined up as guest speakers. governor o'malley is expected to attend. he testified in favor of a same- sex marriage bill. according to the advocacy group equality md. he came back at the end of the night to hear concluding testimony. the washington post today reports that the governor is reaching out to republicans on this issue. supporters are trying to appeal to those with libertarian leadings -- leanings. they are optimistic they can get the votes in the house without republican help, the republicans are an enticing target because the bill is a tough sell in some democratic districts. there are several hundred people gathered here tonight. no word on when the joint committee is expected to vote on the bill. the senate wants the house to move first before they act.

reporting live from lawyers mall in annapolis, david collins, wbal-tv 11 news. >> baltimore mayor stephanie rawlings-plate delivered her third state of the city address today. she wants to grow baltimore by 10,000 families in the next 10 years. carey kavanagh is live it city hall with more on today's address. >> stephanie rawlings'-blake placed a heavy emphasis on the goal of growing the city by 10,000 families over the next decade. she believes that people will move here if they can count on good schools, a feeling of safety and a reasonable commute to work too well paying jobs. to that extent, the mayor wants to extend the free bus service. she says connecting emerging neighborhoods to downtown jobs is key. >> today i am proposing that we extend the purple line of the circulator up to 33rd street, connecting 10 stations with johns hopkins and the charles

be tough to pass during an election year. >> the president had every reason to expect that there is not a chance congress will adopt anything he proposed. >> congress may not even take the budget up until after the november elections. in washington, nicole killian, wbal-tv 11 news. >> of baltimore man is behind bars accused of molesting a 13- year-old girl he is said to have mentored. lisa robinson is live at police headquarters downtown. she has the very latest. >> according to police documents, charles shelley had access to the victim. in fact, he apparently had gained the confidence of her family. >> 44-year-old charles shelley is charged with molesting a 13- year-old northeast middle school student on december 7th. >> he is charged with several sex offenses and assault all stemming from an incident that occurred this past december.

>> according to charging documents, after school, shelley drove his son and one other girl to their homes before the incident. he stopped at a dollar store and bought some baby oil. he drove the girl to a park where they watched christmas movies on his ipod before things got "weird." he removed her jacket, began touching her breasts and rubbing her back with baby oil. when he realized the park was about to close, he drove to a parking lot where they watched more movies and he attempted to kiss her neck. she told police he stopped when she told him she was uncomfortable and he asked her if she wanted to go home. she said yes and he drove her home. >> the victim tells police that the suspect is a mentor at her school. that is how she knows him. that is how she is in the car with him. >> when the mother found out that chile was removing her

daughter from class, she became concerned but was assured that the suspect was a good man and had an excellent track record mentoring young girls and gaining their admittance to an elite all girls western high school. the mother says she and her family grew to trust the suspect and even attended dinners at their home. >> the girl told police that incidents like the one that happened on december 7th have happened on other occasions. we did talk to a city spokesperson. she says that he is not and has not been a mentor, volunteer, coach or employee with the baltimore city school district. he does, however, have children in the school district. lisa robinson, wbal-tv 11 news. >> coming up, family and friends gather today to bid farewell to a former annapolis mayor. >> straight ahead, moving tributes to the man who dedicated his life to public service.

remembered. >> the united methodist church was packed as people came to remember former annapolis mayor dennis callahan. >> they came to say goodbye to a friend. dennis callahan was 70 years old when he passed away last week from a heart attack. >> denis callaghan was a guy that was somewhat bigger than life. he had enthusiasm and optimism that was infectious to everyone. he made a great impact in this county in this community. he always had his priorities straight. it was about his wife and his kids and his grandkids first. >> can was mayor from 1985-1989. after that, he was the director of parks and recreation. he was appointed chief administrative officer in 2006.

temperatures bounce back after kind of a chilly, wintry weekend. nothing holding winter in place for extended periods of time. according to a lot of folks, that is ok. 48 at the airport today, 49 downtown. the normal is only 44. the record low was one degree in 1983. 15 and a half inches of snow on this day in 1889. it was the worst snow outbreak in baltimore. this time around, it is relatively mild in the central and eastern parts of the state. a little colder out west, that is because the of central inches of snow on the ground. we will see clouds thickening and increasing as we head through the night. by morning, there may even be snow showers north and west of us. the system will not come into our area.

it will be mostly cloudy. 24 for the overnight low. not as cold as last night because of the blanket of clouds. these winter weather advisories and warnings stretch into arkansas, alabama, all the way into north georgia and mississippi. the system producing this weather is already weakening. what we see out here is a little more impressive than i think it will be when it is crossing through the mid-atlantic tomorrow. a lot of rain on the gulf coast. keep an eye out for some thunderstorms down there. the cold is already retreating off the coast and out to sea. as this system moves in, it will have warmer temperatures with it, but not a whole lot of precipitation. after a flurry in the morning, we catch a light shower or sprinkle of rain in the evening. wednesday, sunny to partly cloudy skies. warmer temperatures again. the next system that arrives on thursday looks like it will be a

receptions of all time. he said on twitter today that he wants to come back. despite amazing statistics, he will have to overcome the obstacles of his age and unpredictable behavior. two years ago, minn. released him because he became such a distraction. the boston red sox knew they would have david ortiz back this season. now they know how much they will have to pay him. today, he agreed to a one-year deal worth about $14.5 million. the 36-year-old ortiz enters his 10th season in boston. his signing keeps a remarkable red sox run intact. boston has not had a salary arbitration hearing in 10 years. the oakland a's signed a cuban baseball star to a four year, $36 million deal. the orioles did not have any
