over the election day robo called controversy. our reporter is live outside the courthouse with details. >> hall schurick -- schurick will not be going to jail but will spend 30 days in home detention, part of the sentence. he will also have to serve a 500 hours of community service, serving residents in both baltimore city and prince george's county, the two targets of the election day robo call. he will not be able to hold a paid political job during probation and will also have to pay no fine. he apologized to the judge in court. he spoke publicly a short time ago. >> it was exactly that -- in addition to a mistake and a violation of the law, and more important to me, it was a profound of roof -- personal failure. i have paid and i will continue

to pay personally. >> why did you authorize the call? >> because i believe that there were several thousand african- american supporters of bob ehrlich who had not voted that day, and the message, as counter intuitive as it seems in hindsight, a message such as that one would in fact motivate them to go to the polls if they had not done so. >> just to recap, the election day robo call that went out in 2010 suggested the election was already over between bob ehrlich and martin o'malley and there was no need to go vote. it resulted in the case of election fraud and schurick was convicted in september. judge lawrence fletcher hill which issued the sentence, he said he had to send a message so that no one would find it right or acceptable to interfere with the right to vote. but before it ended, this is

what he said to paul schurick, recognizing that for 30 years schurick served a bluff -- public under first the schaffer administration and the ehrlich administration and as his lawyer said, but never been a bad word about him. the judges said, mr. schurick, i condemn the actions, but i do not condemn you. he then said he would be willing to entertain another motion down the road that would convert his conviction to probation before judgment. we will have much more on the results tonight at 5:00 and 6:00. reporting live from the mitchell courthouse. then a delay in the court proceeding -- proceedings in the murder trial of george huguely, accused of murdering cockeysville made of the yeardley love. one of the defense attorneys is reportedly killed. they are expected to resume in the hour. hundreds of bge customers and southwest baltimore are still

>> taking a closer look on our hd doppler radar. this is around the city, just outside the beltway. here is the day running down. just to the south into the west of the city we have a few sprinkles. the darker vein, the district of columbia, especially northern moderate ranger or activity. bands will be moving through the day. it will not be raining all the time of up there that it will keep us a little damp or on what side. the whole day will be cloudy and kind of gray and dismal.

let's take a look at the numbers -- at least it is rain and not know. temperatures relatively mild. 52 at salisbury. the boardwalk is 46. gaithersburg 43. 30's of western maryland but still above freezing. as this is pulling away, it is very likely some of the ridge tops and west-facing mountains may pick up a little snow. here is the satellite image showing the most significant clouds and moisture over us now. things begin to thin out when you get out into ohio and parts of kentucky. there is the front that is coming through. you have to wait for this to move through the area before we are done with this. things moving along rapidly. a high pressure in the atlantic gives way -- the big area of high pressure will give us a couple of days of relief before a system that will be developing down in the south leads in the weekend.

all the real cold temperatures shifted from eastern to western canada and down into the western part of the u.s. our temperatures at least for the time being have warmed up a little bit. this old stuff will be getting a little closer to us, perhaps, by the end of the weekend. our future cast shows by 7:00 this evening, the bulk of the rain will be through the area. the rural eastern shore may have some left. and then drying out going into tomorrow. it should hold steady until much of the weekend, the first part. showers today, clouds, 45-50. futurecast taking us beyond this, into friday, to see how we dry out. a little bit of snow in the mountains. then saturday morning, here in the storm developing to the south. it does not get to us until we get into early sunday. this particular computer model indicates the rain will stay south of us, but different models are coming up with
