surviving a kidnapping in libya last year. in syria u.s. officials say al qaeda in iraq has been carrying out bombings. a shooting at the u.s. immigration and customs enforcement office in long beach, california, left one agent dead this morning. i.c.e. said one of the agents shot and wounded his supervisor on thursday before he was then killed by a third agent. and now to the death of whitney houston. as funeral plans are finalized for this weekend jeff rossen has the latest from newark, new jersey. good morning. >> reporter: hey, haamy, good morning. we are told the family will have a private viewing today of her body. the funeral happens at the new hope baptist church tomorrow at noon. we are told there is major star power. late thursday night, bobby brown and new edition were back on stage in maryland. >> i'd like to say thank you for your prayers. >> reporter: he paid tribute to whitney houston. >> i'm going to throw two up for

[ cheers and applause ] >> reporter: after buzz that he wouldn't be invited sources close to the planning now confirm whitney houston's ex-husband is expected at saturday's funeral. >> he will be there, both because he wants to support his wife's family. most particularly he wants to support his daughter bobbi kristina and be there for her. ♪ i wanna dance with somebody >> reporter: the pop diva will be honored by the industry's biggest names. aretha franklin will perform. so will stevie wonder. kevin costner, whitney's costar in "the bodyguard" will speak at the funeral. whitney's producer clive davis will speak. tyler perry will attend along with r. kelly and alicia keys. of course whitney's cousin dionne warwick will be there.

the service saturday at noon in whitney's childhood church where she sang in the choir as a teenager. >> this is a church and we're going to have some church in this celebration. >> reporter: it is a private funeral, invitation only. fans are showing up by the hundreds. >> we just want to pay our respects and say good-bye. >> reporter: whitney will be buried nearby at this new jersey cemetery, the same cemetery where her father is buried. this morning we have new details in the death investigation after finding prescription pills in whitney's hotel suite law enforcement tells nbc news they have questioned her doctors and obtained her medical records. police say they don't suspect foul play, but they are still waiting for toxicology results. >> great to see you. >> god bless you. >> reporter: in the days before her death whitney visited doctors' offices at least twice,

million deal. 24-year-old knox was cleared of murder by an italian court. she was convicted in the death of her roommate while studying abroad in italy. this isn't your childhood's play ground rope swing. devon graham made the world's biggest rope swing. look at that. he flung himself back and forth from a 150 foot high rock in arches national park outside of moab, utah. of course he wore a helmet cam to capture all the fun, if you call that fun. it's six minutes past the hour. back to al with a check of the t weather. al? >> not getting me on that thing. as we look to this weekend and show you what's going on, first of all we have a big storm coming into the pacific northwest. that will bring a lot of rain to the coast and heavy snow back through the cascades. as we move to the east we have a risk of strong storms in southern texas. could see isolated tornadoes. houston under the gun for heavy

becoming a statistic? dr. keri peterson is a "today" contributor and works with women's health magazine. >> good morning. >> staggering statistics. this is awareness month and the message is out there, but are people getting it? >> unfortunately the well-being of americans is on the decline ever since the economic recession began. there was a gallup well-being index that found obesity and smoking are on an upward trajectory since then. it's probably because people are stressed and not taking as good care of themselves. >> let oh's look at five ways to change it. number one, eat plants and fish. where do we start? >> there are two main groups you want. those rich in antioxidants. those are colorful fruits like pomegranates, blueberries, tomatoes and spinach. they function to prevent

build-up of plaque in the arteries. then there is the potassium-containing fruits and vegetables. oranges, bananas and mushrooms. get five to nine servings every day of a fruit or vegetable. >> we talk about fish and we hear about omega threes. >> they are found in fatty fish like salmon, sardines, rainbow trout. these lower triglycerides and blood pressure. at women's health we recommend getting a four-ounce serving twice a week which is about the size of a deck of cards to get the benefit. >> twice a week, a deck of cards. number two on the list, cut out fatty foods. what are the worst offenders? >> the worst are the saturated fats and trans-fats. saturated fats are in butter, meat and whole fat dairy. they elevate bad cholesterol. limit them to 7% of daily categories. trans-fats are worse.

they raise bad cholesterol and lower good cholesterol. they are found in shortenings, pastries, fried foods. that should be less than 1% of your daily calories. >> you say to know your risk. >> know your risk, know your numbers. you need to know your risk factors for heart disease so you can address them. you need to know your cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar and your family history. if you have a female in your family that's had heart disease under the age of 65 or a male that's had heart disease under the age of 50 you are at greater risk. >> all right. number four is exercise. this is one we know we have to do and we don't do it. let me ask on behalf of americans. what's the minimum amount of kper can size i can do to help myself? >> the minimum according to the american heart association is 30 minutes five days a week. it doesn't have to be extensive. just brisk walking. take a walk with a friend.

>> 30 minutes five days a week sounds like a lot. >> get home, put your coat down. put on the walkman and go around the neighborhood with a friend for 30 minutes. you're done! >> get the heart moving, even if it's just walking. >> yes. >> stop smoking. difficult for people. >> two to four times more likely to have heart disease if you are a smoker. it create it is perfect storm for a heart attack. narrows the vessels, elevates blood pressure and thickens your blood. consider the people you smoke around. secondhand smoke exposure also puts those people at risk for heart disease as well. >> just to recap, eat plant and fish, cut the fatty foods, exercise, know your risk and stop smoking. >> thank you. >> still ahead, the dad who shot up his daughter's laptop. just punishment or bad behavior?

appropriate parenting. mark potter is here with more. mark, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, guys. this is a story that begins with a teenage girl who made a big mistake. she tried to hide something on the internet from her parents including her father who works in i.t. and is gd with computers. when he found what she wrote he responded most dramatically. >> and today, i run across a post on your facebook page you didn't think i would be able to see. so since you want to hide it from everyone i'm going to share it with everybody. >> reporter: in an eight-minute video seen worldwide online, tommy jordan from north carolina confronts his 15-year-old daughter for an angry rant she posted on facebook complaining about life at home. >> pay you for the chores -- seriously? pay you for chores you're supposed to do around the house. >> reporter: it was what he did at the end of the video to her laptop computer -- >> this is my .45. >> reporter: shooting it repeatedly with a handgun that got everyone's attention.

>> one, two, three, four, five, six. oh, yeah. after that comment you made about your mom, your mom told me to put one in for her. that one's from her. if i eve got one left -- i've got two left. now i'm out. >> reporter: jordan's video sparked a widespread argument over whether his response was irresponsible or good parenting. he began by reading his daughter hannah's obscenity-laced note which she posted for her facebook friends. >> to my parents, i'm not your damn slave. it's not my responsibility to clean up your [ bleep ]. we have a cleaning lady for a reason. her name is linda, not hannah. if you want coffee, get off your [ bleep ] and make it yourself. >> reporter: the video drew tens of millions of hits with ten times more likes than dislikes. jordan said he was disappointed with his daughter's disrespect. >> you want a new camera, phone, ipod. well, you won't get off your lazy [ bleep ] to even look for a job. >> reporter: already, parodies have popped up on the internet.
