school was about to start monday morning. somebody shot five students inside the school, and the parents feared their child would be among the victims. >> i was scared out of my mind. it is very difficult thing to know that you cannot be there to help them at a time like that. >> student witnesses say it happen in the cafeteria. a fellow student stood up and opened fire with a handgun. >> there was a lot of screaming. i heard a bunch of shots. >> the gunman fled but was arrested a short distance away. >> students are being evacuated to mikel elementary school. >> four male students at a one female were injured, but at least three report will be airlifted to a hospital in cleveland. in the scenes here conjuring up images of columbine from over a decade ago. >> i am all mixed up right now. you never think something like that would happen here. then again, you do not think it

will happen anywhere. >> authorities have not said anything yet about what prompted the student gunman to do this. wbal-tv 11 news. ♪ >> now to our big story. a baltimore family is grieving the death of a husband and father. one of the latest casualties in the war in afghanistan. loved ones say 48-year-old major robert marchanti died less than a year after being deployed. here is more on how he is being remembered. >> the details surrounding his death are unclear, but major robert marchanti is survived by his wife and four adult children. he had been deployed in afghanistan for less than a year. >> i just think that all the dads in baltimore would be like him, i think the world would be a better place. >> leah is holding on to fond memories of her father, major robert marchanti.

maryland national guard and department of defense have identified -- have not identified his debt, but word of his debt surfaced after a weekend of the protests. four americans have been killed, and the taliban has claimed responsibility in response to u.s. soldiers burning qurans. she did not comment on the specifics of her father's death but acknowledged that he recently passed away. she's remembering happier times with her father. >> the way that he looked at my mom. when we went out, he was always holding her hand, touching her, telling her that he loved her. he spend time with each and every one of us. he would take me out and take my brothers out. >> the family is comforting each other here in baltimore. leah hopes her dad's legacy lives on. >> strong, courageous, brave, loving, a man of god. he loved the lord. he loved my mom, and he loved us.

he would have done anything for us. >> the families from the gardenville, northeast baltimore. her father taught physical education at carney and dundalk elementary schools. wbal-tv 11 news. >> baltimore city police are investigating a shooting in the four hundred block of west garrison avenue. that is where officers discovered a man suffering gunshot wounds to the head and a lower back just before 430 in this morning. he was taken to the hospital. no word on his condition or possible suspects. a community on edge this afternoon following a shooting in the normally quiet towson neighborhood. it happened around 1:30 a.m. in the 500 block of allegheny avenue. a 65-year-old man came home to find a burglar. the suspect shot the homeowner and took off. the victim is expected to recover. police later arrested the suspect. he has been identified as the 49-year-old bradford holup of baltimore city. the families of two firefighters

injured while battling a house fire in riverdale talk about the incident. the parents of kevin and ethan spoke to reporters outside of washington hospital center sunday. the firefighters are in critical but stable conditions. itkevin suffered burns on 40% of his body. but his father says he's always looking out for his friends and family despite his injury. >> one of the first things he was worried about is, how is ethan? they were together. wanted to make sure he was ok. maybe the second thing was, my family. >> ethan is waiting for tests that will tell them how badly burned his airways. we're told he is alert and communicates through writing. emergency crews spent sunday morning putting up a two-alarm house fire. when crews got to the home, they saw flames coming from the roof. the brought in extra crews and worked quickly, fearing the fire would spread to a home next door because of high winds.

in dallas. the warm air stretching in to the ohio valley. mid 50's across the mid atlantic two even warming near 60 in baltimore this afternoon. behind this, a sharp temperature contrast, where it has dropped into the 30's i kansas city. 36 in denver. colder air coming in behind the store. it will eventually be moving our way. let's look at futurecast and see what we are expecting what's that storm moves our way. today, i mentioned the moisture to our south. you can see it picking up on the futurecast. norfolk, virginia, maybe some showers this afternoon and evening. looks like baltimore stays dry in the mostly clear. then the clouds start to increase into the mid week. here comes the storm system which is likely to bring some heavier rain and will keep our temperatures down. where is the snow? you can see the latest forecast of were the snow is going to be in the upcoming week.
