police say was actually shot and killed. 13-year-old monae turnage was laid to rest this morning almost a week after her brother found her body in an alleyway. sheldon dutes has more. >> what a difference a week makes. last saturday night, she was having fun with friends. today her parents buried her. it was not without the support of loved ones. >> the lord is looking down on monae with all his praise and glory for her. >> she may have been young, but she touched a lot of lives. that was evidenced by the hundreds of people who came to celebrate her life. >> a very nice turn out today. the church was packed with people. there was standing room only. it was a very very nice home going services for her. >> this is the home where edith watched her daughter's singing in the choir on many sundays. with the support of loved ones,

she is walking into grieve monae's death. mayor stephanie rawlings-blake came out to pay her respects. >> it is a tragedy and said they for the family and city. >> police say she was killed in an accidental shooting last week. her family does not think her death was an accident. two boys have been charged with involuntary manslaughter. investigators are trying to determine if the city police officer may have been involved in an alleged cover-up. >> if there's criminal wrongdoing, we will hold people accountable. >> despite the confusion surrounding her death, love was are holding on to positive memories of her. >> her smile. she was a lovely young lady. she was a happy person. she was very outgoing and outspoken. she was a beautiful person. >> i do not want to think about the bad things. all i can think about are the good things. i think god allowed us to have

an angel in our presence for a short time. >> i spoke to a family member told us they are doing ok. she told us her mother has a strong support system to lean on in difficult times. sheldon dutes for wbal-tv 11 news. >> a baltimore detective is charged with attempted theft. police were called by store security to investigate a shoplifting case. police discovered the cashier had under-charged the detective by about three inner dollars on her groceries. the cashier is her daughter. >> we are committed to holding individuals accountable. if this proves true, extremely poor choices on the part of this individual. you can rest assured she will answer for the allegations and found to be true. if they're found to be true. >> she has been suspended and

placed on administrative leave. a formal hearing will take place on monday. her daughter has also been charged. >> the man charged with sending a threatening letter containing a suspicious white powder to the center will be in court on monday. federal agents arrested carlsson on friday. they say e-mailed 100 envelopes containing the power and threatening letters to members of congress. he is charged with sending two letters. his neighbors say they are surprised by the charges. >> very quiet. he did not talk to anybody. he said hi and that was about it. >> officials say the letters tested negative for toxic substances. he will be arraigned on monday. cherry hill residents are urging the school board to vote against the plan that would close south side academy.

the ceo made the recommendation citing years of declining enrollment and achievement. at a public hearing today, residents said the school is a part of their community. >> you are messing up a lot of friendships. is a neighborhood school. it is right down the street. it is going to be heartbreaking. >> we expect the conversation will be ongoing even after the board votes to make sure we are able to provide exceptional options. >> three schools may lose their middle school grades as part of the restructuring. the school board is scheduled to vote on march 27. now to commitment 2012. mitt romney has won the republican delegate vote in wyoming.

of us. that is where things have gone quiet and temperatures are tumbling. readings in northern maine are in the teens. it is mild relatively speaking in the plains states where the storm is beginning to produce more southerly wind. this will come together with the complex storm coming onshore in the pacific northwest to produce wet conditions in the central part of the nation. this high pressure will move our the picture next week. the sun has been acting up again. around 1:00 in the afternoon, this solar flare exploded again . it was a strong solar flare. it should arrive here about monday afternoon. that may help to generate more aurora activity.
