7:13 am
it worse. obviously you reassess and in this case, you know, we have to start looking at the fact that the president's strategy of putting the timeline in place emboldened the taliban, made it harder for us to be successful on this mission. his rules of engagement made it difficult for the soldiers to accomplish their mission. given all of these additional problems, we have to either make the decision to make a full commitment, which this president has not done, or we have to decide to get out and probably get out sooner given the president's decision to get out in 2014. >> are you suggesting -- are you saying you agree with general mccaffery who said we should re-examine whether we want to stay in until 2014? are you prepared to say you agree with that view? yes or no? >> if the president is committed to this current path which he'ms to which is to give a timeline
7:14 am
and give something you never want to give the enemy -- and that's hope -- he's committed to that, we are seeing the consequences of that. we have an emboldened taliban taking advantage of mistakes or horrible acts of violence committed by a single troop. it undermines our ability to be successful which has already been undermined by the president's policies. you either make a commitment to be successful and make sure that's communicated effectively to the enemy or -- >> is that a yes or a no? i'm sorry to interrupt. is that a yes to before 2014 or a no? >> again, my position is we have to commit and be successful. if the president's is not that commitment i don't see a reason we should continue to hold on to an artificial date that is not working for us. >> okay. let's move on to the campaign. we heard you say in kelly's report that it's not about the math. it's about the vision. if we look at the delegate count after this weekend's events, the
7:15 am
reality is you would have to win more than 60% of all remaining delegates to win this nomination. how is that realistic? >> governor romney has to win more than 50%. the current pace governor romney has been winning -- and he's had all the favorable states, three of his home states. i have only one home state. but he's had three of his home states up already in this election. he's had huge advantages because of early organization. was able to get on the ballot and win a large chunk of delegates simply because of delegates that speaker gingrich or i wasn't able to get on the ballot. that's not going to continue. we're going to move to states where i will have more advantage. we'll move to states where governor romney has no proven ability to be successful. the math isn't the issue. the issue is vision. the issue is governor romney
7:16 am
having outspent me 10 to 1 and still isn't able to close the deal and is not on a path himself to get to this. we need to let this thing sort out. you know, if we have a continued contested primaries going through this, we'll see shortly that the conservative in this race is going to rise, continue to start winning states like i have and when we go to this convention if that's where we end up, it's a conservative party. they are not going to come nate. if the opportunity provides itself they are not going to nominate a moderate governor. what chance do we have in the general if he can't deliver a knockout blow to other candidates. we'll be the nominee providing the best vision and forecast to president obama, have the best chance of winning.
