the 16th archbishop of baltimore. he has ties to maryland and washington d.c. and studied at mount st. mary's seminary and was ordained a priest in washington in 1977. he became bishop of bridgeport in 2001 or he restructured catholic schools. he replaces edwin o'brien. the bishop served on the u.s. conference of catholic bishops' committee on sexual abuse, helped draft the charter for the protection of young people, and serves on the committee concerned with the issues of pro-life and defense of marriage. he is an outspoken advocate for religious freedom and is chairman of the committee for religious liberty. he says he's grateful for the opportunity to serve here in baltimore. >> in the time had, i will be out visiting parishes and schools. working closely with members of the lady and those in

rest today. family and friends gathered at the trinity lutheran church on monday to pay respects to the soldier killed overseas. he is also a baltimore county teacher and was killed last month shortly after copies of the koran were burned in afghanistan. the governor has ordered all u.s. and state flags to be flown at half staff in his memory. baltimore city police are investigating the deadly shooting of a man in highlands town. he is found shot in the chest just after 8:30 on monday night. so far, no word on a suspect or motive. >> it is hard to complain about whether we have been seeing. it has been some wild for the past two weeks and we know march could be worse.

right now, we are above normal, 62 degrees and we have not warmed much from the morning temperatures because we have so much fog and drizzle in the area. temperatures are steady and we expect a warm up into the afternoon. sunshine will help bump up the temperatures to near 70 degrees. that will make the atmosphere unstable and there could be a shower or thunderstorm in isolated spots later today. >> it is decision day in illinois where republican voters are heading to the primaries. the 54 delegates at stake could mean a new twist in this long race for the gop nomination. >> illinois is the adopted home state of president obama and the birthplace of president reagan.

gop hopefuls argue it may mark a turning point in their campaign. >> mitt romney and rick santorum came with one message -- help- wanted. the two republican presidential candidates focused on their differences. romney tout his business experience and says the economy is the top priority. rick santorum says he's focused on the president's health-care plan and freedom. >> i don't care what the unemployment rate is going to be. doesn't matter to me. my campaign does not hinge on unemployment rates. >> i do care about the unemployment rate. it does bother me. i want to get people back to work. >> of course i care about the unemployment rate. rick santorum says a win in illinois would change the election. romney is 14 points ahead of santorum while newt gingrich and

>> spring officially began at 1:14 this morning but the weather pattern has been way ahead of the calendar. we have seen spring-like

temperatures for the past week or so. that trend continues this afternoon. the doppler doesn't show any activity. it is dry as you head into virginia. but what the radar cannot pick up is a low cloud cover and drizzle. it's not out of the question you could have a couple of raindrops on your windshield for the next couple of hours. then we have a chance for showers and thunderstorms as we head into the afternoon. in the satellite picture. clouds across the area and fog left over with drizzle possible. a couple of patches could filter into the afternoon. that may help temperatures bounceback and that will help create the instability to get showers and thunderstorms.

high pressure setting off shore. you will notice the weather pattern just has not changed. the high offshore ushering in tropical air and in keeping as mild and humid. a storm system is trying to come in from the west. it is a powerful one. it brought all of this that to california and arizona and is making its way to the plains. but it is putting on the brakes because of that high pressure system. strong storms in eastern texas and threats of severe weather. the head of that, the temperatures are unbelievably mild, including chicago. it's warmer in chicago that it is right here. normally they are in the '40's and '50's this time of year. they are experiencing unusual weather. that cold air is trying to make its way east.

we're in the '60s. we have not been able to warm up because of the cloud cover. we should be nearing the 70 degree mark this afternoon. a chance for isolated showers and thunderstorms. a few pin points on the map is where we could see some wet weather. the seven-day forecast calls for mild weather. the cold weather finally does arrive but it's not a big change. >> she plays a no-nonsense lawyer looking for a fresh start and he played a womanizing surfer dude. they star in the new nbc comedy "best." -- bent." you play a single mother fresh off a divorce.
