attempted to assault another student, a female student. the man wearing the mask is still out on the ground. officials say they know what may have started this incident. >> there was some situation -- i do not know if it was earlier this week or yesterday in the cafeteria, where there was some french fry throwing. we do not know if the individual is the father of the girl involved or not. we have been unable to figure out what that relationship is. >> i think it is despicable that an adult would come up and have a confrontation with a student. that is something they should be taken up with the parents or the staff here at the school. >> police say a female student, and tape is being charged with assault and may file charges against the intruder. extra police were on hand today at the columbia campus. this incident remains under investigation.

>> thank you. the outrage over the shooting death of a teenager in florida is growing tonight. protesters have begun to gather in the city where he was shot and killed. the chief of police announced he would temporarily step down, calling his involvement a distraction to the investigation. we're live in sanford with late breaking details. >> that resignation or temporary resignation has not tempered the frustration here. take a look behind me. a crowd is beginning to build and we are still hours away from the event. the stage is literally set where in just hours the family and reporters will continue their call for action after his death. >> in several cities including atlanta hundreds gather for a trip to florida before sunrise,

hoping to shed some light on the death of a 17-year-old. frustration has pushed them to rally in sanford where nearly a month ago the unearned teenager was killed by a community watch volunteer who told police he of fired in self-defense. the event was organized by reverend al sharpton. amid growing tensions, frustration, and calls for him to be arrested and the police chief to be fired, after a symbolic no-confidence vote by commissioners last night. >> he would say i voluntarily step aside if he wanted to serve the city. >> today he announced that he would temporarily step away from his post. >> i did this in the hopes of restoring some semblance of calm to the city which has been in turmoil for several weeks.

9:00. it is unclear what type of bus struck the girl. 11 news has just learned that she has been treated and released from hospital. police identified a man shot in the head. jonathan hutchison, 24, was found with a gunshot wound to the head shortly after a 11:30 p.m. last night. he died of trauma. investigators are searching for a suspect and a possible motive. >> please continue to investigate a triple stabbing in baltimore county. investigators tell us these men, ranging in age from 18-21, were all involved in a massive brawl during which at least three people were stabbed. this was the scene above the town has where it all happened. police tell us that the men pulled up, got out and started fighting. police are still investigating

of baltimore. however, the report is not all bad news. the majority showed a lot of growth in the downtown district. we're live in downtown to explain. >> the report is actually a look back at some of the key economic benchmarks that determine the economic health here in downtown baltimore. there is an interesting contradiction that we found in this report. while it says that jobs were lost in the city, vacancies in office buildings also went down. just how is baltimore doing these days? when compared to similar cities around the nation, not too bad. that is according to the annual state of downtown report put out by the downtown partnership of downtown baltimore. >> more people went to work downtown and more people want to live downtown. >> the report looks at an area

within a 1 mile radius from the corner of pratt street and highlights several key areas. the only negative came from the downtown employment picture. the city lost a little more than 10,000 jobs, and 9.4% drop. however, office vacancies fell year to year to 17.2%, and retail vacancies fell to 5.7%. the downtown partnership says that despite the employment numbers come a city companies are telling a different story. >> what we are seeing and hearing from companies is that they are optimistic about the year of moving forward and they expect to continue hiring. >> the numbers of people living in staying downtown are pretty impressive. occupancy rose to 97.2% and hotel occupancy climbed to 63%.

around the virginia border. the potential for a shower will be there for the next couple of hours especially in virginia and the carolinas. in the ohio valley, down to the gulf coast, this system will be heading our way. that will slowly make its way into our region for saturday and sunday. check out temperatures. 82 in boston. 80 in albany. unseasonably warm weather all the way up into southern new england, even parts of northern new england. 73 in oakland. pittsburgh, cleveland, columbus have all reached the 80's. same thing in detroit. not quite that warm here. again, morning clouds delayed our warm-up so we have not hit 80 yet this week, but the potential is there tomorrow. if we see this fog burn off a little quicker, the temperature will rise again.

fog forming, sun setting at 7:21 p.m. this high-pressure has been near bermuda all week long. it is showing some signs of weakening over the weekend. that allows this big swirl of clouds to inch closer. it does look like on saturday and sunday we will be dealing with the impact of this storm. some slightly cooler air comes in with the storm itself. you can see the big swirl of moisture and around the cut off a storm. that is now pushing into alabama and parts of tennessee. earlier in the week it was out in texas to louisiana. again, that will continue slowly progressing to the east as the center of the storm works its way east as well. tomorrow, parts of indiana, ohio, kentucky, tennessee down to the gulf have a slight risk

degrees warmer than normal for the march 22nd which is just 56 degrees. still 71 here. 55 on the coast. 82 in boston. 80 in pittsburgh, detroit, columbus, cincinnati. tomorrow, we may see our temperatures come up a few degrees. 80 becomes a possibility. tonight, unseasonably mild, winds calm. fog will likely reform. the area of high pressure near bermuda it is stationary. it is expected to weaken and drift farther out into the ocean allowing this swirling storm system to move our way over the weekend. everything is moving slowly. you'll take another day for this to get here and a couple of days for this to move on through which means potential for thunderstorms saturday and sunday. a couple days ago, they were drenched in texas and western louisiana with up to a foot of rain. now that heavy rain is pushing

through parts of alabama and sneaking on up into southern tennessee. in the past 24 hours, the rainfall totals have been really impressive on the mississippi- alabama border area. three-5 inches in some areas and even more. there is a risk of severe storms from the gulf on up to the ohio valley. that thunderstorm chance will get here on saturday. for friday, enjoy it. after the fog burns off, it is going to be a warm, a summary type date. 72, some thunderstorms in the mountains friday, but much cooler going into the weekend. rain may linger through saturday and sunday. 81 on the eastern shore tamara than 70 with a thunderstorm possible on saturday. clouds will give way to warm temperatures tomorrow but it will be chillier along the bay.

on ritchie highway. the shell gas station and all cost ministries are joining forces to offer $0.30 off per gallon. as you can see, the line started forming early. again, $0.30 off per gallon. today marks the 13th straight day that gas prices are up. if you have a child safety lock in your house, listen to this recall. the u.s. safety commission has received two hundred reports about capet locks produced by noel industries. they are being recalled because they do not adequately secure cabinets. young children can get through the locks possibly leading to exposure to unsay for hazardous items. -- unsafe or hazardous items. applications for jobless

benefits hit a four year low last week according to the labor department. weekly applications dropped 5000 to a seasonally adjusted three and a 48,000. that is the lowest level since the break, 2008. applications have been dropping since last fall. employers have added an average of two hundred 45,000 jobs per month from december through february. when applications fall that low it usually means hiring is picking up. a growing number of colleges are doing something we have not seen in years, lowering the cost of tuition. this is part of a new tactic to boost enrollment. they are cutting tuition cost and the time it takes to graduate. at some universities, the cutter 10%-15%. -- cuts are 10%-15%. however, cuts in tuition are usually accompanied by cuts in
