stories that have developed overnight. susan aldrich is resigning as president of the university of maryland university college. she will remain on administrative leave through august. she will be able to work on the launch of the new on-line education platform and consult on the rebidding on some of the over see contracts. last summer's earthquake could cause the baltimore archdiocese millions of dollars. the tremor did some $5 million in damage to the basilica of the assumption downtown. cracks in the dome have grown. repairs will close the cathedral on weekdays for eight months

beginning in june. >> a fight at a school has led to criminal charges against those involved. jennifer franciotti is live with that story. >> cell phone video of this fight was posted on a website. this all unfold yesterday at columbia's long reach high school when a man wearing a ski mask confronted a student and tried to assault that student. the student and about knocking that man to the ground. the student is a football player and was defending himself. >> currently the situation is under investigation by both the school and the police. it has been turned over to the police department. the fact that this was filmed and it's gone viral on the internet, that's a fact of life these days. >> police are investigating. charges may be pending against the man who was able to get up and walk away.

the student involved is not expected to face any charges. a girl is faced with assault. we'll tell you why. >> police now have five men in custody in connection with a violent fight. all of the men were involved in the fight where three people weretabbed. this happened on tuesday afternoon in owings mills. police say the men pulled up in a car and started fighting with the people inside the home. to victims range from 18 to 21. >> police chief james teare is fighting efforts to testify at the county council. residents demand that he attend that meeting so they can learn more about misconduct with john leopold.

he was keeping secret files on his political opponents. teare has been served with a subpoena but he is refused to answer it. >> he owes it to the county council to account for the actions of his department and of his own actions. >> his attorney advised him not to go to the meeting because the information he reveals meet disrupt the ongoing criminal investigation. the final police officer charged in the majestic telling extortion scheme has pleaded guilty. he faces up to 25 years in prison. more than 50 other officers reportedly received kickbacks for sending accident victims to majestic for repairs. >> every gop candidate is campaigning in louisiana today hoping to pick up some of the 20

delegates at stake. emily schmidt has more on what the candidates are looking for in louisiana. >> this is another seven face- off, a chance for newt gingrich or >> santorum to pick up some ground. but southern gentility is out the window as the talk turns tough. in louisiana, gop presidential hopefuls are going back to a childhood drawing board for inspiration, criticizing mitt romney as an ever-shifting candidate. >> they're looking for someone who is not an etch-a-sketch candidate, but an etched-in- stone candidate. >> you can't have a child's toy pick presidents. >> the ready-made photo op comes after a romney adviser said everything changes for the fall campaign, like an etch-a- sketch that can be shaken up to start all over again. romney explained it like this on wednesday. >> i'll be running as a conservative republican nominee -- or excuse me, hopefully nominated for president that the policies and positions are decided. >> romney made no public appearances thursday as he

focused on private meets in washington. his rivals didn't let up. rick santorum seemed to imply president obama will be better than romney. >> instead of taking a risk in what may be the etch-a-sketch candidate for the future. >> mitt romney responded in a statement -- "i was disappointed to hear that rick santorum would rather have barack obama as president than a republican." the candidate bickering underscores the push for delegates. romney has more than double those of santorum. no candidate shows signs of dropping out, even as some republicans call for closure. >> the sooner we can come around on a nominee, i think the better we are as a party. >> polls show that rick santorum's is up ahead pretty substantially in louisiana. mitt romney looks stronger in the next set of contests including maryland april 3. i am emily schmidt. >> thank you. more republican presidential candidates are making maryland

one of their stops all of the campaign trail. newt gingrich will come to the state house in annapolis next tuesday. no word if any of these appearances will lead to a campaign-style public event. ron paul will be meeting with voters when he stops by the college park campus of the university of maryland next week. he will hold a town hall meeting on wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. the event is free but people are still get their tickets in advance. >> ron paul. a very unique protests in annapolis. listen to this. in the 50's out in western maryland. we're miles across the region this morning. we're in this flow of air that is producing these mild temperatures. it is much cooler west of the storm. it makes its move on us over the weekend. it is a slow-mover. it will spend the weekend moving across the area appeared that is our basic forecast. travel weather for today -- major destinations with the highest range chances for atlantic, 70. chicago, thunderstorms. everywhere else, the major destinations look very nice. seattle is dry and in the 50's. a mixture of sun and clouds. 7883 for the high today. a few degrees warmer than yesterday. that will be the end of it after this point. advisory forhefog

gone viral. it is an after-school fight that has gone viral on a website. it happened at columbia's long reach high school just after dismissal. a man in a ski mask confronted and tried to assault a student. the man is knocked to the ground. the boy is seen throwing a punch. that student was just defending himself. >> the situation is under investigation by the school and the police. it has been turned over to the police department. >> it may have stemmed from a taunting incident at the school. a girl has been charged and the man who came to the school may have ties to the girl's caretaker. this is a video that has gone viral with more than 600,000 hits. a child psychologist says online behavior can take on a life of its own. >> taking pictures and putting on the internet, that would be

let's look at the temperature trends that we will experience here. here is the normal for this time of year, 56 degrees. we're above normal. we will be up near 80 degrees. after the storm comes in, we start a downfall. we will still be above normal but not as far above normal. chestertown, 57. 53 in parkton. frieder, 54. 50's out in western maryland. elkton is one of the chillier spots. no clouds around ocean city. the fog does not show up on the satellite but there is fog, mostly in the northern portions of the state. as dense as -=-not

baltimore and cities across the country is now on the agenda in many communities as they address the issue of youth violence. as baltimore observes youth violence prevention week, the johns hopkins university center for the prevention of youth violence announced a $5 million grant from the centers for disease control and prevention wbal-tv 11 news i-team reporter and anchor deborah weiner, so moved by the effect of violence on a south baltimore high school, is hosting a documentary -- "rebounding from loss" -- that followed a varsity basketball team after the loss of a star player. the bayhawks of benjamin franklin at masonville cove have endured an emotional season. despite the loss of a key player and numerous other challenges, coach, william russell, made it to the playoffs. not only did they have success on the court, but in the court of life, all of the senior team members were accepted to college. life expectancy in urban environments is on the rise, and the riveting story of the bayhawks is evidence of why and how a safe environment can protect children and teens who are at risk even when the odds
