sexual miners but tonight they lieutenant-colonel is free on bail. sheldon is in the newsroom with the latest. >> police say the two girls were offered money for sex but one of them ran away and reported it. that led to a cross country arrested. police say in this unusual case. >> it is rare to have somebody come here, commit a crime, and leave. >> the alleged solicitation happened last month in sacramento where the girls were walking to school. that is when police say jason shepard pulled up in a rental car and off for the girls money for sex. he is stationed in maryland but he was in sacramento on military business. after the incident, one of the girls ran away to report what happened. police were able to track down his rental car. >> the lineup was presented to

the victim and she was able to identify that person. >> a warrant was issued on 314. police took him into custody the next day. >> one of our detectives brought him back where he was booked into the sacramento county jail where he faces a felony charge and a misdemeanor charge. >> aberdeen has sperm -- confirmed he is stationed there but the army facility is not saying anything else. the case is still under investigation. investigators are looking into the incident. >> a high-speed chase in montgomery county ended in flames. you are looking at video from our affiliate in d.c. the car had been reported stolen. the driver sped off, triggering a pursuit. we're told the vehicle hit a tree and burst into flames.

passengers were killed. the driver and front passenger rescue. we were over the scene of a crash in baltimore city. this afternoon a car lost control and crashed into a residence in west baltimore. right now there is no word on the condition of the driver or anyone else was inside the car. >> relief for authorities after uncovering a suspicious package. police were forced to shut down the area near the 700 block. several residents noticed an unintended backpacking side of the parking garage. everything was deemed safe and the area was reopened after 6:30. and aberdeen hotel, $50,000 to fix damage from a prank. investigators want to know who is behind it. it happened early this morning in the 1000 block of beards hill road.

aghast was contacted by a website called -- a guest was contacted by a website called pranku.net. it sent waters into eight rooms. no charges have been filed. >> president obama commented on the shooting death of trayvon martin. he was killed by a neighborhood watch volunteer, george zimmerman. 25,000 people gathered to demand justice for trayvon. >> if i had a son he would look like trayvon. i think they are right to expect that all of us, as americans, are going to take this with the seriousness it deserves and we will get to the bottom of what happened. >> george zimmerman says he acted in self-defense. a new task force has been appointed.

the debt has focused attention on a law called stand your ground. it was enacted after an incident when a man shot a bitter in his house and waited months before learning he would not be prosecuted. the law allows them the force any place a person has a right to be. it could also be used to stop someone from committing a serious crime, including robbery or burglary. >> i do not want this to make a mistake of removing protections that are there. letting citizens know we will stand by them as they protect themselves and their families. >> the common law allows you to defend yourself for your home. this is called the stand your ground but it is really stand someone else's grand. >> florida is the most expansive. 19 other states have similar laws, allowing the use of deadly force.

maryland is not one of them. the two-year anniversary of the health-care bill, all eyes are on the supreme court. >> it will decide whether congress exceeded its authority when it enacted the mandate. the main issue before the court involves the individual mandate which requires americans to buy health insurance. 26 states are challenging the law. >> we have quite a few members who choose not to purchase health insurance and feel this is a violation of their liberty. >> analysts say the decision will set a precedent regardless of how it rules. religious conservatives are gathering to protest the anniversary of the health care reform act. the stand up for religious liberty and rally hapned this afternoon across the u.s., including downtown baltimore. attendees called the obama administration's reform assault

on religious liberty. under the authority, the department of health and human services announced that all employers had to provide contraception coverage to employees. >> this is not about contraception. it is about telling people of faith that the federal government has the belief and you better agree with them no matter what your religion dictates. >> similar protests also took place in germantown. >> in section 2012, the house approved a plan that is different than what the senate passed. this as the stage for a conference committee between the chambers. delegates spent two days debating a package including tax increases designed to balance the budget and chip away at the ongoing deficit. differences between the house and senate include personal increases. a measure to double the tax was

also passed. the senate must approve the bill. maryland senators want to move the date of elections to the same day as the presidential contest. today the senate voted 36-10 to move the date in 2016. city council members are elected and in odd years, not during the gubernatorial or presidential race. the decision was made in hopes to improve voter turnout. it now moves to the house of delegates. early voting in maryland begins tomorrow. >> that is right. analysts predict a strong turnout by republicans. we have close to a million of them seriou. >> friday afternoon, cruise or setting up to last of five early voting sites. one of 46 locations statewide.
