good morning. a couple of accidents in jessup. one near conowingo avenue. conway street and charles street in the city, there is a crash. this is a fire activity in woodstock, howard county. one more problem. we're doing well on the west side. in aberdeen, a motorcycle accident at short lane and old philadelphia road. there could be some lane closures. this is 95 at 395. watch for that accident as to take the ramp in down towards conaway because conaway and charles is an accident scene. looking good on the inner loop but building in the outer loop as you make your towards the west side. that is the latest on traffic pulse 11. >> it washington state man has

pleaded not guilty to sending threatening letters to several members of congress including barbara mikulski. a june trial date has been set for the man. authorities traced letters to his home. the powder tested negative for toxic substances. he is currently being held without bail. a woman admits to performing makeshift plastic surgery. kimberly smedley has no medical licenses and conducted these procedures in hotel rooms. she was arrested last year after one ever patients became extremely ill from the procedure. she will be sentenced july 12. two brothers will not go on

trial today as expected. this is the sixth time the trial has been postponed. prosecutors say the brothers were part of patrol back in november of 2010 when they encountered the teenager and broke one of his ribs. defense attorney said one of the brothers is sick. >> jury selection is underway in the retrial of brothers accused of killing a pit bull by setting it on fire. jennifer franciotti has details. >> jury selection got under way yesterday for a trial that was supposed to begin last may. it has had several delays. a large jury pool of 80 potential jurors was called in this case because of the publicity. normally they call around 30 to 40 jurors to whittle it down to a 12-member jury and three alternates. travers and tremayne johnson are charged with animal cruelty in the death of a dog.

the pit bull was set on fire in may of 2009 and died a few days later from her injuries. the first trial in 2011 ended in a hung jury. animal advocates are encouraged to see this case back in court. >> we need to see this through to a logical conclusion, whatever that may happen to be. and we're very grateful for the things that have happened over this three-year period of time that have moved in a positive direction. >> that first trial ended in a hung jury on a vote of 11-1. it was oner juror who refused to change her vote. jennifer franciotti, wbal-tv 11 news. >> prosecutors are forced to drop their case against five former reform school counselors charged in the death of a student. the counselors have been charged with reckless endangerment and failing to call 911 in a timely mannet.

prosecutors say one of the detectives is being investigated for perjury in an unrelated matter and is no longer credible -- in a timely manner. police say these men are responsible for a series of murders. dominick williams and anthony johnson are accused of elise four robberies around the city -- are accused of four robberies. >> one of the suspects would spray the employee with mace or the other would lift the valuable property. >> police are looking into the possibility that they committed similar crimes in their jurisdiction. >> he may be trailing in the polls but ron paul pack the university of maryland wednesday

the country. >> then a boost from jeb. >> he said, "mitt, i want to let you know i'm endorsing you today." >> today mitt romney expects the endorsement of former president george h.w. bush. >> if there's ever a part of the republican establishment that still exists, it's the bush family. >> on wednesday, romney also got the backing of senator marco rubio, signs the gop is starting to coalesce. but as republicans line up behind a front-runner, the obama camp is taking aim at romney and his closest rivals. >> one thing that can bring this momentum to a screeching halt is turning over the keys of the white house to santorum or romney. >> rick santorum is campaigning in wisconsin ahead of next week's primary. >> we've got to find the right spot on the lane there to roll the ball. >> but with a calendar of contests unfavorable to santorum, it could be a tough month. >> contrast to the candidate -- >> trailing far behind, newt gingrich has fired his campaign manager and laid off much of his staff, but he refuses to give up.

>> there are two large principles that led me to decide to run for president. one was values and the other was innovation. >> ron paul is not showing signs of dropping out. the next round of contests is in maryland, wisconsin, and in the district of columbia. >> mitt romney is on the role. what is the latest on how he would do against the president? >> not so good according to the latest cnn poll. president obama has a double- digit lead over mitt romney. president obama would get 54% of the vote and mitt romney, 43%, only slightly better than rick santorum. >> a police officer is suspended this morning.

this involves an internal investigation. the sergeants handling of money prompted the investigation it is questing the handling of cases. he works in drug enforcement. internal affairs investigators are conferring with city prosecutors. the sergeant was suspended last week. the aclu is expanding its investigation into john leopold. whether members of the police department conducted illegal background checks on leopold's political opponents. teare said he could not comment without jeopardizing an ongoing investigation. >> 59 degrees on tv hill. looking to save some money on groceries? >> a new video sheds some light

>> welcome back. 6:13. 62 degrees downtown at the maryland science center. the temperatures are not going to move much as we move through the day. here is the front that triggered the thunderstorms we had yesterday. there is a nice area of high pressure in the great lakes that will be drifting southbound. it will bring quiet conditions for the next 24 hours and it will increase the wind and dragon some cooler temperatures. if we look upstream, temperatures in the 30's and 40's. that cooler is sliding over the top of western maryland.

the further north and west you go from baltimore, the cooler it will be. with that northwest wind, even when the sun comes up, the tempers will have a difficult time moving into the low 60's this afternoon. 58 at the airport. we just had a gust of 26. the forecast for today -- mostly sunny, breezy, and cooler. the high temperature between 60 and 65. that is still above average for this time of year. the record for today is 90. the record low is 18. tonight, mostly clear skies. we should stay above freezing. 35 out in frederick. 45 downtown. watch as another system muezzin from the midwest tomorrow. that will give us some rain

misleading the public when they said his nose was broken and there was blood on the back of his head. >> is event maintains the shooting was in self-defense -- zimmerman. a 13-year-old accused of killing his own mother. the boy is now charged with murder and assault with attempts to commit a sexual assault. >> a large mall will open in tennessee after flooding. some of the stores have already reopened but the entire mall reopened its doors. they hope that this will entice shoppers. >> leaders of several states

>> thank you. good morning. back to baltimore for john harbaugh and the ravens brass. the nfl meetings are over. the owners were busy on the final day. they tweaked the replay rule. the replay official will review all turnovers. the ravens forced 36 turnovers last year. that will save the coaches from throwing the challenge flag. adopted the same playoff overtime format for the regular season. if it is a field goal, the other team gets a chance to tie or win. the orioles and yankees play tonight. go back 12 years when mike mussina left the orioles for the yankees. that triggered a tremendous amount of anger.

mike mussina has been elected to the orioles hall of fame. he is among the top two or three pictures in orioles history. he was a rock on the mound for 10 years, clearly the ace of the orioles staff. the orioles and blue jays. this was ryan flaherty. he will make the team but he is a rookie. jason esposito scores. glenn davis drove in a run. 9-3, the orioles win. mike mussina said he was honored to join the hall.

the beginning of a delay on the north side outer loop over towards harford and perring parkway. this is 895 and moravia road. no sign of any significant delays with the accident at holabird. that is the latest on traffic pulse 11. >> good morning. things are pretty quiet weather- wise. the front is now part to the south. we have a few high, thin clouds. the big weather story will be the wind, up close to 30 miles per hour. the wind is coming out of the northwest. temperatures drop off into the 30's and 40's. things will level out. the temperatures are not countermove a lot.

northern lights in maryland. a couple of nights ago, there were photographed as far south as nebraska. you can see that and find me on facebook, tony pann on facebook and you can see the map. a slight chance we can see the northern lights as far south as maryland tonight. things will start to change as another storm approaches. you'll see the clouds of thick enough. there is a good chance for some rain on friday night and on saturday. that will be mostly on a saturday morning. sunday looks like a nice day with a high temperature near 61. then it gets warm again early next week. >> time now for a last look at one of our big stories. court officials going the extra mile when it comes to seating a jury.

>> this is a wbal-tv 11 editorial, from president and general manager dan joerres. >> the 2012 maryland general assembly, held in the oldest operating state house in the country, approached the halfway point of the 90-day session, with many issues still unresolved. the two-ton gorilla in the room is the $1 billion budget deficit the state faces. even more daunting is how to close the gap in such austere economic times. legislators have a long list of proposals and options that require some very tough decisions. proposals to protect the bay is being considered. now is the time our officials need to do the heavy lifting. they must address the deficit.

ben learned about a homeless boy who had an infected tooth, and the boy died. that made ben really sad. he wrote a law so every kid can see a dentist. we have special dental van that goes from school to school. he even helps make sure we learn how to brush our teeth. he's my friend, ben. i hope he's your friend, too. i'm ben cardin, and i approved this message.
