-- update il. >> we continue with breaking news out of east baltimore. a toddler was hit by an unmarked police car. it happened at 3:00 p.m. this afternoon. >> police say they believe the child darted in between two cars and into the path of that police car but an accident team is investigating. the child is being treated at johns hopkins children's center. the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. >> now to the retrial of twin brothers accused of burning and ultimately killing a pit bull. >> i will once again face animal cruelty charges. we're live from the middle courthouse. >> nine women and three men were chosen to decide the fate of airtran version and -- travers and treymayne.

a pool of -- a jury is finally exceeded in the trial who are now 20 years old. back in late may of 2009, the then-17-rote set a pit bull on fire. phoenix would die several days later. the twins were put on trial but a jury could not reach a verdict and a mistrial was declared. in opening statements, prosecuting attorneys explained the evidence in the case would prove that the brothers set phoenix on fire. this evidence would include video surveillance showing them running from the crime scene. to witness accounts linking them to the crime scene and clothing that one of the johnson brothers shirt he was wearing

was the same as seen on the video. the defense that their clients were innocent and the video never shows the johnson brothers lighting of a dog on fire and you cannot see their faces. the city botched the crime scene from the beginning, they said, deciding to launch a criminal investigation six days after the crime. defense attorneys claimed they were arrested because of public outrage and pressure and police had to arrest someone so it was convenient to arrest them. off to a slow start. the detective was supposed to show the video surveillance but the defense has spent much of the afternoon against showing this video and so far, it has not been shown. and may not be shown today. court may have to resume tomorrow morning with that video.

as far as the brothers are concerned, they are charged with aggravated animal cruelty. >> thank you. on narcotics investigation uncovers more than 110 grams of heroin and $10,000 in cash. there was a significant amount of drug trafficking taking place at of a home on shamrock ave. that is where they're arrested four individuals including landon gibson. he faces charges of drug trafficking. now an update that got national attention. a woman with no license to practice surgery injecting commercial grade silicone into her customers buttocks. kimberly smedly has pled guilty.

one of her patients became extremely ill after the procedure. she faces five years in prison. >> firefighters say the wind was a factor as they battled an early morning fire that escalated to two alarms in east baltimore. flames broke out along east biddle street. officials had to evacuate the entire building because of its faulty structure. it spread to a vacant building next door. investigators are looking into the cause. >> with gas prices hitting a record high, president obama said the american public is hitting with a -- being hit with a one-two punch. >> we have the latest from washington. >> pushing to end the government's subsidy of oil

we're waiting on a damage estimate on this fire. it spread from a town home to two surrounding homes. trucks are -- a truck lost control on howard force plane and crashed into a home, returning gas and power lines. there were people inside at the time but we have learned they were able to get out on her.

police are still investigating trying to determine what brought the driver into the house. no word on whether he will face any charges. >> new statistics show a troubling spike in autism cases. the cdc study of 14 areas across the united states shows, to some cases jumped 23% from 2006 to 2008 and spiked 78% when compared to 2002. the 2008 numbers show autism spectrum disorders are five times more common in boys with the largest increases among hispanic and african americans. older parents and premature births are suspected as factors, experts acknowledge this increase might be explained by better diagnosis. >> what we do not know that we should be learning is it is truly a change in the number of
