-- found. >> it was about 7:55 a.m. when two teachers found a note on the door of the kent county school. >> officials were coming into the school and found a note that said there was a bomb at this kent county school and the other six schools that would detonate today. obviously, something that had to be taken very seriously. school officials immediately evacuated the high schools students who were already in the school. they evacuated and canceled the other schools in kent county. >> police units are brought in across the state. because of the early hour, most students were not there yet. >> i heard one of the teachers saying there was a bomb threat. everyone was at the back of the track, like the whole school. >> you did not even make it inside the school. baker argued before? >> yes, they caught us before we

went inside. >> because the bomb threat was for all of the schools in kent county, bomb detection? would have to be brought in from across the state. -- bomb detection dogs would have to be brought in from across the state. because of the time constraints, schools had to be closed. >> our superintendent felt it was necessary to make sure we thought about the safety of our students and be forthright in an evacuation. >> all day, police went from school to school, searching. >> it could have been a prank, but it could have been real, and we ought to approach these things as if they are real and respond accordingly. >> this investigation is ongoing. police have made no arrests and say they have no suspects. >> and man is here is the year after an apparent industrial accident in rosedale.

we are over the scene as rescue crews responded to a truck and trailer shop around to 40 5:00 p.m. this afternoon. a man was making repairs on a vehicle when it fell on top of him. he was rushed to an area hospital, but his condition is unknown. baltimore county police are now investigating. >> tears at the center of an incident today. the judge quoted a scottish prayer while the victim's family broke down and cried. but the victims of sexuality ran as an undercurrent of this case. was he shawn because he was gay? his mother used today's hearings to respond. short of the death penalty, the sentence donte parish was handed today was the most severe he could get, like with no chance for parole. he murdered 15-year-old jason madison in november of 2009. the boy was stuffed in an

upstairs closet of an east baltimore house. a plo was stopped in his mouth and his throat was cut and he had been sexually assaulted. her house is where the crime happened. >> i'm very grateful that he will not be able to hurt anyone else. >> jason was a good student who wanted to go into medicine. at the trial, he was shuffled -- it came out that he was shuffled from home to all because he was gay. his mother took exception to that statement. >> i never put him out because of his sexuality. >> she never put him out because of his sexuality. people can say that, but she knows in her art, jason knows, and her family knows. >> the judge quoted a well-known scottish prayer and looked at parish and added to my you are not legally or eighth thing that goes bump in the night, but every bit as frightening because

you are real. he called parish a danger to its friends, society, and even his enemies. >> that was a reference to herridge's previous conviction to the 1999 murder of a man in east baltimore. he received a shorter sentence in that case. he was released in january of 2009. jason was killed eleven month later. >> and now to our team coverage of the maryland primary. voters across the state have been trickling in to the polls throughout the day. the what we do not have any exact numbers, and election officials tell us turnout has been pretty scant. only 80 people at this elementary school by 98 -- by 9:00 a.m.. 37 delegates are at stake, as

well as other contests for progress and u.s. senate. we're live at timonium elementary school. what is the latest there? >> the polls are open for another few hours and that is a good thing because we have seen a light turnout across the state today. you can see less than a dozen cars here. a lot of them are people coming to run their dogs on the field or play basketball. not exactly a lot of people lining up for the polls today. given that maryland is a heavily democratic state, you expect people to pack the polls today. -- you would not expect people to pack the polls today. here in baltimore county, officials are not releasing voter turnout tally's yet, but they tell us most of the precincts have seen somewhere between 50 to 100 voters all day.

an average of just 3% of eligible voters took the chance to cast their ballots early. however, we did find some voters who tell us they never miss an election. >> i have never not voted. since i was eligible to vote. i think it is important. i think it is part of being a citizen of the country. it is what enables me to have a say in government and to be able to influence it in some small way. >> officials in baltimore city tell us they are estimating 5% turnout today compared to 40% in 2008 when the democratic nomination was at stake. you have until 8:00 p.m. to get out and vote. it looks like you will not face any light at this point. >> it is not just here in maryland where voters are headed to the polls. it is also a primary day in

wisconsin and washington d.c.. right now, we go to the nation's capital and steve handelsman. mitt romney, if he is declared the winner in all three primaries today, is santorum technically out of the mix? >> it not technically, but it is a bad blow to its campaign. the focus today is on wisconsin. another one of those midwest, so-called rust belt states. it is a battleground election. that is why people are wondering why rick santorum is hoping he can win for the first time in that region. he tried and failed and illinois. he tried and failed in ohio and also in michigan, all states where he was closer to mitt romney's standing in the polls than he is right now in wisconsin. he hopes it will give him momentum to try to make a real stand in the state of

pennsylvania, his home state, where the vote in three weeks. santorum loses there, he is almost certainly out of the running. >> it seems like the republican presidential candidates have been pratt -- campaigning for two years nonstop. we are told that the obama campaign is starting to step things up. is that what you are hearing? >> you can hear for yourself. it is one of those republican primary days where president obama tried unsuccessfully grabs some of the thunder. he gave an address in washington to the associated press and said things like this, aiming at mitt romney and the republicans. he called the budget laughable, backed by romney and passed by roy paul ryan in house. -- by paul ryan in the house. he said it makes cuts that are too deep, cuts so deep, the president claims, that he calls

child. >> right now, 16-year-old shaquille johnson is being charged as an adult after robbing a man and a pizza parlor. this happened around 3:30 p.m. last -- yesterday afternoon. the 31-year-old victim said he was outside smoking a cigarette when the group attacked him about one of them armed with an object, and then the public -- the group took off toward church street. the police want to charge them as juvenile. anyone with information should call crimestoppers. >> it turned out to be a beautiful day today. this morning, the lower end of the 30's and sun frost out there in some neighborhoods. we manage to jump all the way to 70. the air is dry and at 8 miles per hour. 64 in parkton. 66 in westminster.

her sexual orientation. and it did not stop there. >> we were told that they could not have gay pride postersp. they were not allowed to talk about girls. there were not allowed to dress in a way that was not a stereotypical female attire. i do feel that it was based strictly on my sexual orientation. >> according to its website, the children's home provides shelter, foster care and adoption services for girls, and we're told there is an on-site program for boys. it receives 80% of its contracts from the state -- state of maryland. we try to contact them and they said they have no comment on the situation. >> a man is accused of killing seven people on a small college in oakland, calif., and says he felt bullied. chris clackum has the latest.

>> the frantic scene and a small christian college in oakland monday, caused, police say, by a former student, whose shooting left three injured and seven people dead. at an early-morning news conference tuesday, police say, after his surrender, the suspected gunman told them he felt mistreated and is respected by others at the school. >> in terms of the suspects cooperation, i'm told he has been very cooperative with us. he has not been particularly remorseful. >> he is a former nursing student who was expelled from the school earlier this year for reasons not immediately clear. but investigators are looking at a possible motive. >> we do know he was upset at administrators at the school. we know he was upset with several students because of the way he was treated when he was

there is a system coming across the great lakes and a warm front extending through west virginia. right on this boundary, a few showers and thunderstorms pop up in western pennsylvania, parts of west virginia, even into western maryland. most of this will fall apart in the next couple of hours. the air is really driving around baltimore. -- is really driving around baltimore. there could be another batch coming in late tonight, but initially following that war front of my for probably stay to our west. you can see high, thin clouds building in from the northwest. clouds will thicken out over the next couple of hours and mostly cloudy overnight tonight. the relative humidity is only 50%. the dewpoint is out in the albertine's to around 20. 70 degrees at the airport.

tomorrow. high temperatures between 67-72 degrees. sunrise tomorrow morning at 6:45 a.m. on the day tomorrow, a southwest wind at 10 to 20 knots. the winds will start out of the southwest and then shift to the north. the water will still be in the low 50's. the seven-day forecast looks like this going into the weekend. it will cool off significantly thursday and friday, but for the most part, dry. a slight chance for a shower in the forecast, but it does not look like a big deal. it will not cause the game to be delayed or anything like that. going into the weekend, at 60's. the best chance for rain will be on monday and tuesday. >> still ahead, it is only natural for cancer survivors to worry their disease will return.

>> in tonight's medical alert, it is pretty common for cancer survivors to worry their disease will return. is only natural. but a new study finds most of these patients die from other causes. a new study out of the virginia commonwealth university followed nearly two dozen cancer survivors for 18 years. 51% of them did die from cancer, but 49% died from other causes, like heart disease. and a longer they lived after being dust -- diagnosed with cancer, the less likely they

were to die from it. researchers say this is an indication that you should be looking at your health in general. when you have higher risks of breast cancer may need more of than a mammogram to spot early signs of the disease. researchers looked at those who had a mammogram combined with altars and screening. some bridges the band had an mri. researchers found that combining ultrasound with mammography was beneficial in a large percentage of women. a new report says baltimore city residents are the on healthiest people in the state of maryland. they looked at health factors by county nationwide. it's as baltimore county, but also included allegany, dorchester, somerset and caroline county spirited --

they have stepped up patrols since the string of incidents occurred, which seemed to happen in the middle of tonight. >> we are live at the harford county sheriff's office with a look at the evidence. >> they're looking into the possibility that there may be a connection, but in the meantime, the message they want to get out is to make sure you what -- lockyer door and if you see anything unusual, -- lock your door and did you see anything unusual, report it. brian and michele's home is one of a number of homes in harford county that was targeted by burglars. just last week, michelle was home with their son in the 27 joppa and she noticed someone attempting to open your front door. she did not get a good look at them.

of these burglaries', hertford county sheriff's office sent out an alert residents last week. coming up at 6:00 p.m., we will have helpful tips to keep your home state. -- your home safe. >> here is another look at top stories at this hour. a bomb threat was written on a handout at a kent county school this morning cause all of them to be evacuated today. it was found shortly before 8:00 a.m. and warmth that bombs had been placed at seven of the county's schools. bomb sniffing dogs were brought in to search the buildings. no one has been injured and no devices were found. a man who was pinned under a car that fell on him in rosedale has not died from his injuries. it happened right to 40 5:00 p.m. this afternoon. the man was reportedly making repairs to a vehicle when it

traffic around the area. >> the n.c.a.a. has crowned a new set of champions, and the police in the victoria's team and city -- victoria's steans city have been dealing with rights. one man was hospitalized after he was shot during celebrations. the suspect remains at large. most are facing disorderly conduct and are all violations. >> a small plane crashed into a supermarket in florida. take a look at this. you can see the impact of the plane, that it made in the roof of a public sector -- supermarket. it crashed into the meat department. the pilot and passenger crawled out with their clothing on fire and were able to survive. three others in the supermarket were also injured.

look. a closer >> i was just inside the polling place here at rigidly middle school and never more election judges than there were voters. most of the people that we have seen come out and park have done so just to enjoy the weather here at the school. a very light turnout across the state. we're hoping to turn that around. you can see a lot of the polls ters did come out to stump for their candidate. since the president is running for reelection, the republican race is still up for grabs. here in baltimore county, officials are not releasing voter turnout tally's yet, but they tell us that most of the precincts have seen somewhere between 50 to 200 voters all day long. long.
