than 110 planes damaged by hail. a vicious rounds of storms, an ominous warning that a tornado season now moves toward its most traditionally violent months. there is a curfew tonight in lancaster. the clean up in what is sure to be a long and difficult recovery will begin in earnest tomorrow morning. >> today was primary day here in maryland, not a lot of people seem to notice. tonight on the democratic primary for center, center been carden has won easily, as was expected. he has 73% of the votes. his closest contender has 17% of the vote. 73% of the vote, businessman john delaney is ahead with 55%

and roscoe bartlett is winning on the republican side with 44 percent of the vote. many political insiders say it is unusual for an incumbent to win a primary with less than a 50%. now to the big race. governor mitt romney has taken all three of the primaries, including here in maryland, wisconsin, and the district of columbia. steve handelsman has tonight's complete commitment 2012 report. >> winning in maryland and d.c. was assumed. mitt romney big try tonight is in wisconsin. >> when you drive home tonight, and you stop by the gas station, take a look at the prices and ask yourself, four more years of that? >> today's primaries were winner-take-all. romney won all ages, men and women in wisconsin, even the tea party vote. a big loss for rick santorum.

wbaltv.com. >> the voter turnout in maryland today was lackluster. >> administrators say it will be lucky to get to 25%. kerry cavanaugh saw that in person today. she joins us live from baltimore county. i take it the parking lot was never crowded today? >> it was not. if you showed up. 2:00 this afternoon, it looked pretty much the same. as you mentioned, voter turnout was lower today. they are guessing the term that will average just over 10% across the state. you cannot blame the weather for keeping people away from the polls on this beautiful spring day. boaters' trickled in to cast their ballots in maryland's primary election. >> i have never not voted since i was eligible to vote. i think it is important.

it is part of being a citizen of the country. it is what enables me to have a say in government and to be able to influence it in some small way. texted officials estimate that around 10 percent of registered voters cast a ballot with the turnout peaking in 16% in conservative maryland -- conservative western maryland. officials did not expect people to pack the polls given that maryland is a heavily democratic state and the president is running for reelection. joe got up at 5:00 a.m. to vote for ron paul. he is disappointed that just over 100 people came into his polling place. >> how long have you been out here? >> like 13 hours. >> are you staying until the polls close? >> yes. i have been here since 6:00. >> an average of 3% of eligible

voters to the damage of the opportunity to cast a ballot early. >> we had about 7400 voters, which is not good. >> what we saw today was a sharp contrast to the primary back in 2008 when the democratic nomination was up for grabs. about 40% of voters came out to decide between barack obama and hillary clinton. >> a handwritten bomb threat forced school officials to shut down all kent county public schools today. investigators evacuated the schools after to teachers at a middle school found a note around 8:00 this morning. it said that bombs had been placed at seven of the county schools, prompting officials to call in bomb sniffing dogs to search the building. >> school officials immediately evacuated the high school students who were already in school, turned away the middle school students who were arriving at this facility, and

called all the elementary schools, canceling schools here in kent county for the day. it could have been a prank, but it could have been real, and we have to approach these things as if they were real and respond accordingly. >> no one was injured. police did not currently have any suspects in connection with the threat. >> life without parole was a sentence handed down today for the brutal sexual assault and stabbing death of 15-year-old jason madison in 2009. jayne miller has the details. but short of the death penalty, the sentence dante parish handed today was the most severe he could get, life with no chance of parole. he murdered 15-year-old jason matheisen in 2009. the boy was stopped in the closet of an upstairs bedroom. pillowcase had been jammed in

his mouth, his throat was cut, and he had been sexually assaulted. >> i am very grateful that he will not be able to hurt anybody else. >> jason was a good student who wanted to go into medicine. prosecutors said jason had to shuffle from one home to another because he was gay. in court today, jason's mother took exception. i son was never homeless, she said in a statement. the statement was read by another family member. >> jason was always welcome in his mother's home. she never put him out because of his sexuality. she knows in her heart, jason knows, and his family knows. >> dante parish said nothing in court today. the judge cited a scottish prayer. he called him a danger to his friends, society, and even his

enemies. jayne miller, wbal-tv 11 news predicts a vigil at towson university for remembers of two students who died of the weekend. one appeared to be the result of medical issues and the other is the result of a hit-and-run accident. kai reed was there as the popular students were honored. >> a sea of candles lit up towson university as hundreds of classmates and friends honored to members of the university family. >> any state and dying is a tragedy. texted is dying in the same day -- any student dining is a tragedy. texted is dying in the same day is hard for us. >> 20-year-old bailey was walking saturday morning when he was hit by a car. he died at the scene. the car kept on driving and

30's. went up close to 70 in the afternoon, a big temperature swing from the morning to evening. we even saw frost in some neighborhoods. low pressure is coming in from the west. a couple of rain showers have developed, nothing of significance out there. we are watching some light showers coming down out of pennsylvania. i doubt it will be a big problem for the drive time, but there could be a couple of light showers and sparkles when you wake up tomorrow morning. cloud cover starting to thick enough little as the system comes in from the west. we will miss most of this. those tornadoes down in texas, that is where most of the energy is. only a 30% chance for a couple of showers and thunderstorms. 53 at the airport right now. temperatures fairly uniform, may be dropping back another 10 degrees into the 40's. partly cloudy with a slight chance for a rain shower late

tonight. if you are up early tomorrow morning, there could be a little bit of rain in some neighborhoods. from 40 in the colder spots to near 50 degrees downtown. tomorrow, the system passes out of us and we will see a slight chance for a couple of showers developed as this goes by. the main part of the storm will pass out of us with some strong thunderstorms in the southeast part of the country. there could be a repeat of what happened today in texas across the southeast, so keep an eye on that. it should stay south of us. it will be close to 70 degrees and then the winds will shift to the north and cool things off as we head toward the end of the week. the forecast tomorrow, a mixture of clouds and sunshine. the redesigned -- 30% chance of a shower and maybe a thundershower. on the bay tomorrow, a little choppy. they water temperatures are now in the low 50's.
