that sounds good until you consider that three weeks ago he was up by 14 points. he may actually be losing some ground. >> tara mergener, thank you. >> mitt romney came out as the big winner in maryland. he took more than 49% of the votes. rick santorum was second. ben cardin easily beat a field of democratic challengers with a 74% of the vote. he will face a candidate in november. roscoe bartlett failed to get a majority of the votes but held off a field of challengers to win his party's nomination. he will go up against john dulaney in the general election.

voter turnout was low. jennifer franciotti is live with a look at the disappointing numbers. >> the supporting but not altogether unexpected. you cannot blame the weather because the weather was outstanding. only about 10% of registered voters in maryland came out to the polls for tuesday's primary. light turnout again was expected with a democratic president up for re-election in a state where democrats outnumber republicans more than two to one. those who did come out to vote thought it was important to exercise their right to cast a ballot. >> i have never not voted since i was eligible to vote. i think it is important. beingk that it's part of a citizen of the country. it is what enables me to have a say in government and to be able to influence it in some small way.

>> early voting failed to attract large crowds. only about 3% in baltimore city and surrounding counties. jennifer franciotti, wbal-tv 11 news. >> university of maryland college park file additional scharges against a student. alexander song was arrested. he was released on his own recognizance. he allegedly posted threats of going on a shooting rampage on line. dante parrish will not spend another day outside of prison. he was charged for murdering jason mattison and stuffing his body in a closet. parrish was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. >> and does want to jump up and

down and give god the glory for that sentence saying. i'm grateful he would not be able to hurt anyone else. >> her we're told a man approached a victim and reportedly attacked her. the victim fought back and was able to get away. anyone with information should call 1-866-7-lockup. police are trying to solve a rash of poor workers that has two never rest on edge. 10 burglaries to place in harford county and nine incidents in kingsville and one in joppa. investigators from both counties are looking at the interest to see if they are connected.

these are very minor. there are some more showers out towards the west. a star system moving across the mid-atlantic right now. -- a storm system moving across the mid-atlantic right now. this will likely take a southerly track. then we're looking at a powerful storm moving through eastern texas. that brought severe weather yesterday. now looks like those are shifting the spirit the severe weather threat is moving east. the bull's-eye will be along the ohio valley and down into the mississippi valley. there is a threat for more tornadoes. maybe some damaging wind. other severe weather. this is much more minor. mostly a damaging wind threat. that mostly stays out of the

treated after police pepper spray them at a rally in southern california. this was the scene on tuesday night. the school has agreed to cover all the medical expenses incurred by these students after being pepper sprayed. is very close call for a customer at a connecticut convenience store. after a woman stepped to a counter, she was feeling lucky and an suv comes barreling through the front window. she jumps law up on the counter to get away. the driver was booked on suspicious of drunk driving. >> march was a banner month for chrysler. it was their best month since 2008.

white house. >> he is focus now on beating president obama in the fall. >> and thank you to wisconsin, maryland, and washington, d.c. >> it's a clean sweep for mitt romney, clear victories in all three primaries, including wisconsin, where he beat rick santorum by seven points. but romney's no longer focused on his republican competition. >> years of flying around on air force one, surrounded by an adoring staff of true believers, telling you that you're great and you're doing a great job. it is enough to make you think that you might become a little out of touch. >> with a 16-point lead in the latest gallup poll, today romney courts newspaper editors, preparing for the next round of primaries -- connecticut, delaware, new york, rhode island, and santorum's home state, pennsylvania. >> the clock starts tonight. we've got three weeks to go out here in pennsylvania and win this state. and after winning this state, the field looks a little different in may.
