vehicle. the suspect ended up bailing out. looks like police have been able to apprehend someone in the business proximity that is close to where this vehicle is upside down. city police have blocked off southbound just north of pulaski highway. we will update you as we get more. >> looks like a bad accident. the national debate over the trayvon martin shooting moves to a florida courtroom this afternoon. george zimmerman, the neighborhood volunteer who shot and killed the unarmed teenager, will make his first court appearance today. we get the latest from sanford, florida. >> george zimmerman's first night in the criminal justice center was apparently a restless 1. >> he is dressed and very tired but as for the martin family, very difficult. he wants to be out. he wants to be out to help with his defense. >> its possible he could walk out later today.

his legal team is expected to ask for bonn during an initial hearing in the second degree murder charge in the shooting death of 17-year-old trayvon martin. >> it has been difficult today with -- the will to deal with day in and day old. >> after pushing for more than a month for his arrest, martin's parents say they are relieved now that the controversy will play out in the courtroom and not the rallies and protests that have defined this case. >> yes, even if that means he may be found not guilty, we want him to be held accountable for what he has done. by him not been arrested, that would not have been done. we are happy that he was arrested, so that he can give his side of the story. >> a painful and emotional story on both sides. the next chapter set to unfold this afternoon during the first pretrial hearing in the case. mostly a procedural matter today, zimmerman's lawyers say

they have only to started to make their case, which is that they fired the fatal shot in sell defense. wbal-tv 11 news. >> back at home, brothers travers and tremayne johnson, the twins accused of setting a pimple on fire were acquitted. the jury prosecutor -- showed them running from a crime scene and were identified by witnesses in the area. in the income of the jury said there was not enough evidence to connect the twins to the crime. animal activists say they were disappointed with the verdict, but they were happy to see it receiving legal attention. >> people are reporting cases now. the state's attorney's office is prosecuting them. we have seen a change. >> the dog who was burned have to euthanize several days after the attack.

this was the second trial against the brothers. the search continues for the person responsible for starting a fire that destroyed a dundalk church. police have ruled that the fire was arson. they are not releasing specific details on the investigation, but officials say there was evidence at the scene that led them to classify the three-alarm fire as an arson case. pleasant zion baptist church is estimated at around $400,000 of damages. the pastor says they will make it through. he is still deciding where to have sunday services. >> i will leave it in the lord's hands. >> right now, police have no suspects and they are asking for the public's help. a two thousand dollars reward is offered. charles county sheriff's make an unusual arrest involving an

illegal side business. police say they arrested the man for selling marijuana out of an ice cream truck. the charles county sheriff's office says a tip led to the bust and they found cash and bags of marijuana and the suspect's underwear. >> he really was selling ice cream, also. >> you could take your pick. >> police say he was selling to teenagers and young adults through word of mouth. he is out of jail on bond. >> temperatures have now moved into the mid 50's. quite a bit of sunshine out there. a few clouds. winds northwest at 12 miles per hour. it looks beautiful outdoors. when you factor in the wind, it feels a little chilly. at about 6:00 p.m., they start to die down tonight. high temperatures will get up to 60 degrees this afternoon.

>> a police pursuit in southern california turned deadly after officers opened fire on the suspect. los angeles police were chasing this car on route 101 when the driver stopped the car, jumped out, and pointed something at the officers. the officers opened fire, killing the suspect. no word on what led to the shooting. jury selection begins today in the criminal trial of former u.s. senator john edwards. he faces a trial on campaign finance violations, which could bring up to 30 years in prison. he was indicted by a federal grand jury last year on six felony and misdemeanor counts. at issue is nearly $1 million allegedly provided by wealthy campaign donors in 2008 to help edwards hide his pregnant mistress during his run for the white house. to come on 11 news at noon, one

upgrade your phone if you are a verizon customer. the company will begin charging $30 every time a customer wants to upgrade to a new phone. the country's largest cell phone company is introducing the fee as more companies are seen their profits cut by the cost of subsidizing smartphones. the new fees go into effect april 22. filing taxes can be dangerous or even deadly to motorists according to a study published in the journal of american medical association. it reports there are more deadly car accidents on tax day. researchers from the university of toronto looked at 30 years of data from the national traffic highway safety administration. they say the increase in traffic is likely the cause. in today's medical alert, getting an adequate or disruptive sleep could increase your risk for obesity. researchers studied a group of healthy adults, controlling their sleep patterns and diets for six weeks. the subject alternated sleeping 10 hours per night and then it

including 52 in parkton. oakland, 36 degrees. we will see temperatures warm a couple more degrees as we head for the afternoon. most areas will be near 60, if not in the low 60's later today. currently, gusting at 15 miles per hour at the airport. also along the eastern shore. the wind makes it feel pretty chilly out there. the current weather pattern showing a storm system moving offshore. the upper level storm system is still affecting our weather. the storm system high up in the atmosphere is still producing a lot of clouds in the northeast and only a few clouds over maryland itself. high pressure will start to build in the next couple of days. that means lots of sunshine and warming temperatures. eventually, another storm will be moving in by the weekend. i do think it will mostly pass up to our north. we will stay on the warm side of the storm.

another reason the temperatures will continue to rise. tonight, chilly mostly clear skies. 30's as you head into the suburbs and the areas northwest of the city could be close to the freezing mark overnight. the winds will be light. here is a look of a seven-day forecast. things looking pretty good. a major shift in the temperatures. from 60 today to 65 tomorrow and 72 on saturday. we keep climbing up until sunday. 80 degrees is that high temperature. mostly dry weather and a few clouds in the sky on saturday. by sunday, more clouds building in. that is the storm system i was talking about that's likely to pass up to our north. therefore, a slight chance of showers, but a better chance into pennsylvania. a majority of the weekend will be great with the outdoor weather. looking into next week, we still stay pretty mild. we will have increasing chances for rain and even thunderstorms. especially tuesday night and into wednesday, that's what it
