person they describe as a person of interest in this case. according to police, this smashed the car belongs to this 22-year-old. authorities believe he was driving at a high rate of speed and caused a multi-vehicle crash. one of the cars struck corporal kevin mont who was attempting to conduct a traffic stop. the corporal instructed her to move to the rights shoulder. as he returned to his police vehicle, a toyota came out from behind. >> at that point, the toyota was struck from behind in the force of that caused it to veer off to the left toward a grassy median. that is where he was struck. >> he's a 23-year veteran of the police department. >> the toyota which struck the officer and projected him into

oncoming traffic. >> according to police, it hit a second car before crashing into a guardrail. the driver and passengers fled. >> the driver was not immediately located but we have detained a person of interest which is very active. >> he has a guilty history. a guilty charge on drug manufacturing and distributing narcotics. in 2010, he is convicted of second-degree assault. last year, prince frederick police cited him for failing to display drivers license on demand. this latest incident is a tragic reminder of how dangerous police work is. >> the officers conducting a traffic stop. it's very tragic. >> the corporal suffered serious injuries and spent much of the day in surgery. >> thank you.

you might have been part of the major backups on the jfx with the first closures happening this morning. things have the this morning because of a single accident that had traffic turning into a nightmare. >> it makes you wonder if the accident had more to do with the back of this morning than this actual proposed construction going on. we are right by penn station in the northbound lanes are heading toward the lane closure. city transportation officials say it should take a week or less for folks to get used to the different driving patterns. >> we all knew it was coming -- single lane closures on the jfx.

man accused in the st. patrick's day attack that went viral. this is the man who reportedly threw the punch in the video that knocked out the victim outside the courthouse in march. authorities say the victim was beaten, robbed, and stripped of his clothing. the attorney once bill to read -- to be reduced further and says alcohol played a big factor. a sentencing date has been sent for the lacrosse player convicted in the beating of yeardley love. a jury found him guilty of second-degree murder. both of them attended the university of virginia. the jury recommended 26 years in prison. >> 60 years in prison for the woman accused of orchestrating her husband's death. she pled guilty to first-degree murder for her role in the shooting death of her husband. police say she enlisted help for
