members of president obama's security detail but last week and hired prostitutes. the place is crowded with international tourists. eleven secret service agents took prostitutes from the clu to a hotel, where it they were staying. they also told nbc news correspondent michael isikoff that one of the prostitutes was shared by two agents, who got into a heated dispute over the fee she demanded, less than $60. >> she wanted to be paid for both of the agents. she complained to local police. the local police went up to the agents' room, banged on the door, and when they were not satisfied, called the u.s. embassy. >> women and customers are out on the streets long into the night. on tuesday the scandal widened to include a two american

servicemen, now under investigation. officials tell nbc news that they include five from the army, two from the navy, two from the marines, one from the air force, all connected to the secret service advance team. americans are frequently seen here traveling to this area specifically for sex, drugs, alcohol. >> last week the 2012 session of the general assembly ended with legislators failing to come up with a budget compromise. it automatically triggers a so- called doomsday budget, featuring $512 million in cuts from public schools, law enforcement, and services marylanders use every day. while many expect the governor to call a special session of the general assembly, lawmakers said that maryland will do fine with austerity measures, and it will save taxpayers $20,000 a day to not have legislators brought back to annapolis.

>> it is an extraordinary expense. people around here are seen and not to care about expenditures of the citizens of maryland. >> not exactly the budget i introduced, so "happy"is not a word i would use. but the budget we ended up agreeing upon was better than the huge cuts to public safety and public education and affordable college. >> the governor says there was no sense in calling the session unless there is an agreement, controlled largely by the speaker of the house and the senate president. only a few months until the flag drops, there are efforts to green light -- efforts to green light this year's baltimore grand prix stalled. the promoter might be on his way out. the future of the event, which ran into severe financial problems last year, is again clouded.

"the baltimore sun" reports that the company in charge of organizing the event is undergoing some kind of internal conflict. so far, no announcements for ticket sales have been made nor have any marketing campaigns or major sponsors been announced for the labor day event. fire officials are concerned that recent dry weather conditions are increasing the risk of a brush fires. officials say the drought conditions we are experiencing now are to blame for several recent brush fires. anne arundel county fire investigators worked to determine what caused the brush fire near the holiday point marina over the weekend did they say that current conditions and people careless with the cigarettes and fire are the perfect recipe for brushfires. >> low humidity, warm temperatures, it being springtime, there is a lot of dead vegetation, and all of the components have come together and are really ripe for brush fires. >> rain levels are five inches

beijing wowed the world with one of the most spectacular olympics. this year it will be london's chance to shine. u.s. athletes have been getting ready. she is an olympic veteran and 200-meter champion. something has eluded her, olympic gold in an individual event. she says the previous failures are motivating her. >> i am striving to come away with that gold medal. >> michael phelps, star of the 2008 beijing olympics, he brought home a record eight gold medals, says he is ready to do his part again 14 usa, although he has not announced how many events he will compete in. >> am in a better spot than i was at any time over the past three years.

high pressure will settle in as we head into the end of the week until we get towards the weekend. keep an eye on this storm system year, pushing across the plains. this one is likely to dig into the east and develop more of a coastal storm. that will bring the much-needed moisture. we could get decent rain saturday night in the senate. here is the futurecast for today. evening, overnight, they finally end. mostly cloudy skies, a slight chance for showers earlier on. down to 50 for the overnight low. mostly dry early. saturday and sunday, better rain chances could help with the drought. >> leading off our "medical alert" this wednesday afternoon, doctors have noticed a growing

number of acl injuries in teenagers and adolescents over the last three years, especially those playing sports. >> andrew is a high school soccer player currently in the final stages of recovering from an acl surgery. >> it started when i was 6, and there were two seasons outdoor, plus multiple indoor season's. we had three or four practices, two games. our practices would usually be about two or three hours each. >> all that, plus the team runs at least two miles twice a week during classes. this doctor is the director of orthopedics at cook children's hospital in fort worth. he says that this kind of routine is becoming more and more common in young athletes. >> there is a lot of pressure to

play one sport year round. you are more prone to injuries in general. >> he is with the texas sports medicine and is the team physician for the dallas mavericks. as one of the foremost authorities on acl injuries, he agrees. >> primarily, kids, playing too much. there is never time to rest. >> he was 8 years old and he tore his acl. doctors are coming up with new ways to operate on younger patients. you would rather not have the injuries to begin with, so we asked doctors if there is anything that parents and coaches can do to prevent injuries from happening. >> we would like to see children play more than one sport.
