46 at the airport. maybe take a light jacket with you to start the day. but this afternoon, you probably won't need it. mostly sunny skies expected with a high temperature near 73 degrees. very nice. when we come back, we'll check the seven-day forecast through the weekend. first let's say good morning to sarah, see what's happening on the roads. >> happy friday. good morning, everybody. a nice start on most of the major roadways. here's the one problem in howard county. eastbound 32 on the ramp to southbound 95, we have an accident coming in. we'll update once we get more information on that. meantime, fire department activity in the catonsville region at frederick road. use extra caution. fire equipment in the road there. 25 miles per hour on the southbound j.f.x., though just experiencing some delays through that construction zone, but nothing major. it doesn't stretch back to cold spring lane or anything, just in the immediate area of the construction. as far as drive times, we're at five minutes on southbound 95 to get down to the fort mchenry. eight minutes on 895 from the 95 merge down to the harbor tunnel tolls. only going to take you 11 minutes to travel on the beltway on the west side.

body buried beneath a shed in the back yard. >> they searched the house, went out to the back yard on the property, came upon this shed, pulled up some floor boards on the shed and found a concrete slab underneath with the body inside. auch robert jarrett is in -- >> robert jarrett is in jail, charged with first and second degree murder. officers say he showed no emotion as they picked him up during a traffic stop. reporting live, jennifer franciotti. back tousm >> meanwhile, police in anne arundel county are investigating the death of a man who lost consciousness while under restraint in a patrol car. investigators say 41-year-old patrick tony was taken into custody last friday after officers noticed him behaving erratically as his s.u.v. was stopped. police say tony tried to kick out the windows and then lost consciousness on the way to the hospital. he was initially revived, but died wednesday, five days later. an autopsy is being conducted. >> a push to get increased funding for after-school

programs in baltimore city passes its first hurdle. the city's education and youth committee unanimously approved a resolution thursday that would double funding to after-school and summer programs. the resolution was introduced by local youth organizations worried about funding cuts during upcoming budget debates. >> tried different charge to use the power if it's not in the budget, up against the budget, and made sure that this is in there, because this is making positive change. >> some of the city's youth played on the front lawn of city hall thursday to let the mayor know they would have nowhere to go if funding gets cut. middle school students will head back to school today. crews have repaired a 16-inch water main break that forced officials to cancel classes thursday. a school and a number of homes were without water since wednesday morning when the pipe originally broke. water service has been restored to the school and nearby homes. >> the state comptroller is calling for all state school

>> police drove reporters away from the home of david chaney, forced to retire. chaney's lawyer also represents fired supervisors greg stokes. he says stokes will defend himself vigorously and neither left involuntarily. a third agent resigned. lawmakers who have been briefed say more are imminent. >> i'm not sure, but certainly my understanding is there will be more resignations coming pretty soon. >> investigators have interviewed hotel staff, but are still trying to track down the women who say agents hired them for a night of sex just before president obama arrived. at least one lawmaker is pointing the finger at the president. >> the president needs to assert discipline, management directions throughout the executive branch, and presidents are to be held responsible. >> that sounds very much like a lawmaker attempting to politicize something that is not at all political. >> on capitol hill, lawmakers

martin was not armed. new york city police officers and f.b.i. agents are tearing up the basement of a building in connection with a decades-old missing child case. etan patz disappeared back in may of 1979 when he was 6 years old. the case was widely publicized, and his face was the very first to appear on a milk carton advertising missing children. investigators are looking for blood, clothing, or human remains. the search is expected to take up to five days. >> today marks the second anniversary of the deep water horizon oil rig explosion in the gulf of mexico, which led to the worst environmental disaster in u.s. history. on april 20, 2010, an oil rig operated by british petroleum exploded, killing 11 employees and spilling nearly five million barrels of crude oil into the gulf of mexico. the spill was eventually capped in july, 87 days, after more than 200 million gallons of oil leaked. >> quite the event. 5:10, 48 degrees on tv hill. now that most people have filed

wave heights around one foot. bay water temperatures are near 60 degrees, the next high tide at fort mchenry is at 6:58. tonight, mostly clear skies. there's something really cool going on tonight, but there might be a few high, thin clouds around, and temperatures will drop back into the 50's. tonight and tomorrow night, you might have the possibility of seeing some shooting stars. the meteor shower will kick in through the weekend. the best chance to see shooting stars is going to be tonight, because there's going to be some clouds around saturday night and sunday night. but if you want to give it a shot tonight, you can see them at any time, but the best time is after midnight. look towards the eastern sky, and you'll probably see a couple of shooting stars overnight tonight. that's kind of cool. during the day tomorrow, big storm system we've been talking about is going to come at us. scattered showers and thunderstorms will be likely, especially in the afternoon and evening on saturday. and then on sunday, this front is going to stall along the coast, and we've been talking about the possibility of a big storm riding up the east coast, a nor'easter type storm on sunday that could give us some

drought-busting rain, if we can manage to get into the heavier part of that precipitation. so it's want a good thing because it's the weekend, but it's a good thing because we're nearly in a drought situation here in the state of maryland. so 73 today, 74 tomorrow, with scattered showers and thunderstorms, mostly late in the afternoon. and then sunday and monday, if that storm comes up the coast, that's the time period we could get the good, soaking rain. it's going to be breezy and kind of chilly with high temperatures only in the 50's on sunday and monday. and then it should quiet down a little bit as we head toward the middle of next week. but it could be kind of bumpy this weekend weatherwise. >> in this morning's consumer alert, sales of previously owned homes were down last month, a reminder that the housing market remains weak. the national association of realtors says home sales fell 2.6%, despite record low mortgage rates. economists say home sales still remain well below the six million a year needed for a healthy housing market.

seems like a good time for advice on how long you should hang on to tax records and documents you used to file a tax return. there's a local event tomorrow to help you out, but first, 11 news reporter chris clackum explains when to shred. >> it's time to fire up the shreder. time to get rid of old checks, credit card statements, any paper document three years and older that you would have used to prove a tax deduction had the i.r.s. asked for it. >> i recommend keeping the paper at least for three years. that's as long as the i.r.s. has to audit you. >> kimberly langford says after hanging on to them a bit longer, you can even shred the old tax returns themselves. the 1040. >> you may want to keep it for six years, just because there's more chance you may be missing something. but generally, after six years, you're generally safe, unless you've done something horribly wrong. >> to be real safe about it, you can always just digitize the old returns. for that matter, any old

document. >> just keep the digital copy. you may want to go back through some of your old tax records and just scan them, digitize them, take a picture on your cell phone. you can save them into a p.d.f. and keep them on your computer, keep a safe copy somewhere else, and you don't need to take up much space, but it's there if you ever need it. >> keep hard copies of stock purchases. for tax purposes down the road, for as long as you own the stock. and by all means, do indeed use the shreder. >> so shred those things rather than put it into one garbage bag that can be a treasure-trove for i.d. thieves much >> she says a.t.m. receipts, bank deposit slips, and pay stubs can be disclosed of monthly, unless they're important to future tax returns. >> and if you have some documents to shred, you can do so tomorrow, thanks to the better business bureau's annual shred day event. you're allowed to drop off up to three boxes of documents for

yesterday we took another step back on more concern over europe's debt crisis. also reports on existing home sales for march, as well as manufacturing numbers were disappointing. check out human genome sciences. no disappointment there. shares doubling as the biotech put itself up for sale after rejecting a bid of more than $2.5 billion from glaxosmithkline. glaxo made this offer of $13 a share. that was an 81% premium to wednesday's closing price of $7. human genome rejected that bid, saying it didn't reflect its true value. you may have heard starbucks getting flak, especially from its vegan customers for using dried bug extract as a pink coloring for its strawberry frappes. well, the coffee chain now says it plans to stop using that extract, will phase it out by june. starbucks says the new color will be replaced with a tomato extract instead. live at the stock stocks i'm jane king, bloomberg news, for reporting for wbal-tv 11 news.

>> howard county police make a cold case arrest 21 years after a woman goes missing, and now her husband is in custody. jennifer franciotti is in the newsroom with more details. good morning, jen. >> good morning. 57-year-old robert jarrett was always considered a suspect in the disappearance of his wife, but police never had enough evidence to arrest him until now. christine jarrett was last seen in january of 1991. now, 21 years later, police believe they found her body buried underneath the shed in her back yard. >> they searched the house, went out to the back yard on the property, came upon this shed, pulled up some floor boards on the shed, and found a concrete slab underneath with the body inside. >> christine jarrett was a young mother of two small children at the time that she went missing, and at the time of her disappearance, robert jarrett told police she walked out after an argument, but a couple of days ago, they
