social services official. this incident is already under review. officials say there are metal detectors. the question is, how was the suspect in this case, the baby girl's mother, able to get a knife inside? let's start of the good news -- the baby girl is expected to survive. she was stabbed multiple times as, police say, her mother was meeting with a social worker. it happened inside the social services office. the placement of unit, i am told, on biddle bstreet in east baltimore. >> visiting with the social worker at this location. at some point the mother became i rates, pulled out a long kitchen knife and began stabbing the baby. we do have the mother in custody. she is being questioned. we have to check on her mental stability as well. >> social workers often have to have very difficult conversations with parents regarding their children. it is not known at this point. a matter still very much under

investigation. it is not known at this point what specifically triggered this alleged acts of violence. i just got off the phone with social services officials, and they tell us there is a metal detector. the door is right behind me on the other side of the chain-link fence. and people going into the office have to pass through the metal detector. you heard the police spokesperson said the mother allegedly produced a long kitchen knife. so, security very much a part of this investigation. i'm jane miller. wbal-tv and the news. >> falling more breaking news. over the scene of an accident that shut down northbound 83 right at the maryland line. give us the details. >> this is northbound 83, just north just north4 in pennsylvania where they are clearing up the accident scene. we have video of what it looked like -- when we first arrived. a tractor-trailer crashed into the back of a work truck that

has one of the barriers on the back of the truck. we don't know if there any injuries but it was a double decker -- tandem trailers on it. shutdown -- it shut down northbound 83. if you are traveling northbound from maryland to pennsylvania they will make you get off that 439. coming back live to the scene, you can see traffic is backed up about 3-4 miles, making everyone get, making4, but what means street and proceed northbound toward pennsylvania. we will try to get more about this accident later on. >> quite a mess. and yet another developing story. this one in prince george's county. 11 news confirmed five people are dead from carbon monoxide poisoning at a home located at the 700 block of shelby drive in oxon hill. our affiliate in washington, d.c., is it -- at a news crew adding to the scene.

homicide detectives are investigating a suspicious death in northeast baltimore. the body was discovered monday afternoon at the 50 -- 5200 block of -- avenue. police are not releasing much information about the victim or how the person died book are told homicide detectives are handling the case. a judge's emotion in the case of table the more brothers accused of beating an african-american team while a neighborhood watch patrol. the werdesheims said it acted and self-defense back in 2010. the trial was supposed to guard monday but the defense wants to postpone it and wanted moved because of publicity comparing the case to the trayvon martin shooting in florida. secretary of defense leon panetta weighed in on this fee- for-service scandal last night in his visit to colombia. but the number of agents accused in the scandal has gone up. >> as defense secretary leon panetta arrived in bogota for previously scheduled meetings with colombian officials, a

senior u.s. defense officials said the number of american military personnel being investigated in the prostitution scandal has risen to 12 and that security clearances have been polls. >> my biggest concern is the issue of security. and what could possibly have been jeopardized by virtue of this kind of behavior. >> of the pentagon said the latest target is an army soldier who worked for the white house communications agency, where military personnel set up and maintain equipment. meantime, the white house announced it had done its own investigation and cleared its staffers. >> there is no indication that and -- that any member of the white house advance team engaged in any improper conduct or behavior. the meantime, a source says the colombian police have been very helpful to the u.s. investigators who have not interviewed all the women identified as being part of the case.

according to aaa gas prices dropped about 5 cents in the last two weeks down to a national average of $3.86 a gallon. president obama blames speculator is the driving up prices but one economist says that lawyers can also play a the valuable role, often acting as a stabilizing force in industries like air travel. guests should be cheaper in the coming weeks with futures prices also falling this month. women are still falling behind when it comes to bringing home the bacon. research shows women of all races, ages, and in education levels and almost every line of work earn less than men with the same job. what is keeping up -- keeping us from overcoming the wage gap? >> top models to make top dollar are women and professional sports win and lose to amend in pale -- for an explanation, they say look to the market. >> the difference comes from who earns the most revenue and is

based on us as consumers for firming -- preferring one of the other. >> most are not top models and athletes yet there is a 15% difference in what we make doing the same job. the explanation for that, professor says, is to spread among women, if you look at labor participation rates, still leave the work force more often than men. not for as long a period of time that used to be but more so than men and it accounts for some of the discrepancy. >> we shouldn't try to explain it all the way because women choose to work part-time or be a home with kids. it is some of it but it is not the whole thing. >> this political science professor says the salary discrepancy is more based on old ideas of who needs to make money for the family and who is not turning it on the job. she says legislation to prevent wage discrimination is important but that women also need to take charge. >> women are less likely to ask for more, less likely to negotiate contracts and less likely to ask for wages. >> -- raises.

in the higher levels of the atmosphere and this is all try to push off shore. until that happens, we will not be done with the affects of this latest nor'easter. pretty powerful storm. that storm system is exiting off to the east. strong winds of the backside. a break tomorrow and then we will be tracking the next on system. this klipper -- it does not feed into the ocean like the nor'easter did as it moves up the coast. this is just a quick moving storm. it normally forms and alberta, canada, and it does make its way down to the east. it will be equipped moving storm, a quick shot at some precipitation. behind the latest nor'easter a big range of temperatures. it is very chilly right now as he headed to the northeast, only in the 50's and some 60's. normally we should get up for 60's this time of year. even cooler in miami. they have had the air pushing down -- it is actually warmer right now in south dakota where it is currently 77.
