i'll get it out. amy, we're also marking the 20th anniversary of the infamous l.a. riots. for three days the city was in upheaval, builds on fire, unrest took over. violence was sparked when four police officers accused of beating rodney king were acqu acquitt acquitted. in the end 53 people died. coming up, my interview with rodney king 20 years later and a look at how l.a. and the lapd have changed during the last two decades. and then later the secret service plans to conduct practices. we'll have a live report from the white house in just a moment. and then george zimmerman. we learned friday that his personal website raised more than $200,000 in contributions. he did not disclose that during his bond hearing. prosecutors wanted a judge to consider raising zimmerman's $150,000 bond. we'll tell you what the judge decided. lester. >> and then, amy, on a lighter

quote, consider your conduct from the last several weeks. foreign nationals are prohibited from hotel rooms of skrfsecret service. alcohol is allowed in moderation while off duty and not within 10 hours of reporting for duty. this might be common sense but he reminds everyone the laws of the united states still apply when traveling overseas. and to that end they're going to have briefings in person for those traveling overseas for each presidential trip. there are new allegations of unproven misconduct from a trip in el salvador two years ago. there are still investigations ongoing. >> mike vviqueira, thanks so much. now here's lester. >> president obama and mitt romney endured new attacks this week. chris matthews is host of msnbc's "hardball" and aauthor

of a new book "hero." good morning. >> good morning. >> are you surprised the secret service rules weren't already in place? >> i'm always impressed. i have to believe that this is part of their makeover. they're going to try to really improve their image right now. i really do think based upon this investigation so far that this is fairly limited, this problem, but, of course, it was a huge embarrassment. i was down there with the president at an event in cartagena. for all the good work done by the president and the staff and the secret service generally, this has been a black mark on them. i think they're going to do a lot of work to try to improve their image. i think this is part of that right now, not just training but imagery training. >> let's dig into some of the political headlines of this week. one of them is john boehner has been attacking the president. the president has been out trumping this student loan bill. he's done it in swing states.

here's what boehner said, and then i'm going to get your comments on the other side. >> people want to politicize this because it's an election year, but, my god, do we have to fight about everything? and now, now we're going to have a fight over women's health. give me a break. >> both parties certainly want to keep interest rates low on student loans, but it is being politicized. does he have a fair point? >> well, on both sides. but to a student, the difference between 3% and 6% is a lot and also to parents in many cases and the democrats are going to try to reduce the rate. the republicans want to reduce the rate. the democrats want to blame it on the republicans for hurting women's health which is part of the recurring effort. but in all fairness it does take away from the health care plan. so it is legitimate, but it is an election year. everybody should remind themselves as of this week it is a general election and the house

is up for re-election. boehner's house is up for re-election. and there is a new their, by or people are no long eer ticket splitters. >> is it clear that john boehner is supporting mitt romney. >> members of congress are ratest the lowest in history. i think the big thing we saw this week that all hands are on deck, everybody's at their battle stations. any time either party talks from now on, it's about a presidential election. >> karl rove super pac has its own ad attacking president obama. the question is he too cool to be president.

slow jam, singing al green. does this have the opportunity to back fire? >> i think it's so interesting. his margin came from young voters. he's out there to energize young voters. i think about my kids voting. people in their 20s and late teens have to get out and vote heavily for the president to win like he did last time. he's out there working them with culture, pop music, being cool. so, of course, republicans have to come back and whack him when it's pure politics. it may work with white working-class voters who thing this guy's a little too cool for school to use the old expression, and i think this is just sheer politics. but the republicans may have something here. maybe the president exposed himself as too cool to get the young people. it may offend some of the old people. you know, what else is new. >> chris matthews. chris, good to see you. >> lester, good luck with that speech today. >> thank you very much. any thoughts, i'm me.

>> keep it to ten minutes. >> ten minutes? i have it at 14. all right, my friend. thank you very much. coming up on nine minutes past the hour. here's amy. in florida, accused murderer george zimmerman has acquired funds. a quiet constituency who support his "stand your ground" defense has donated in excess of $200,000. nbc's kerry sanders has more. >> reporter: when george zimmerman walked out of jail monday, he had told the court he was indigent. >> at the time that he was before you, there was about 150 or so thousand dollars -- still getting the precise amount -- available for whatever purposes. that was not disclosed to you by the family members. of course, my client didn't testify to that. >> reporter: friday in court his defense attorney revealed to the very judge who set zimmerman's bond at $150,000 that george zimmerman had established this website and requested donations.

zimmerman's defense fund quietly grew to $204,000. some of that cash, $5,000, was used for very bond that allowed his release from jail. >> let us welcome the legal team and the family of trayvon martin. >> reporter: 17-year-old trayvon mart martin's family threw a rally commemorating their son's life. they say the man who shot their son belongs back in jail for concealing his newly acquired money. >> we believe george zimmerman not only deceived the parents of trayvon martin, he also deceived the court and the court should reevoke his bond. >> reporter: attorney mark o'mara who is expected to argue that he was defending himself when he shot and killed trayvon martin, won't reveal the names of the donors because he fears there will be pprisapprisals. >> if he had not another penny

for edwards to cover up his affair, a charge edwards denies. more next hour on "today." police fired tear gas and turned a water cannon against tens of thousands of anti-government protesters today in malaysia's capital. they think they will have an unfair advantage in elections which could take place as early as june but they say the concerns are exaggerated. as the one-year anniversary of the death of osama bin laden, we'll have an interview. brian learns new details about the raid that targeted bin laden. the interview will air this coming wednesday, may 2nd, at 9:00 p.m./8:00 central on nbc. a month after a tornado destroyed their high school in henryville, indiana, these students finally got to celebrate their prom night. the special event was held friday night in a new location. everything from the new building to decorations to most of the

dresses were all donated by members of the community. and as that community recovers, another is cleaning up. three tornados struck southeastern colorado early friday morning while people were still sleeping. at least five home ts were destroyed but luckily only two minor injuries reported. and here's a perfect way to end the week. ranger, a german shepherd, is seen playing fetch with his favorite toy. when he returns with one of the tosses, he finds the replacement is his owner who just got deployed back from overseas. you can hear him there. he's yelping with delight. i can see this a couple of times. he likes his owner. he loves that toy. that's the news. back to amy and bill. >> usually the dog goes up on the video. >> it was the audio. >> yeah. you need to hear the voice. >> bill karins is there with a check of your forecast. bill, i've got to tell you -- we missed it. it was -- because i was talking.

that's a look at your weekend forecast. lester? >> all right, bill. thanks. now to a whodunit involving a british spy as nbc's anabel roberts reports. it still has more questions than answers. >> reporter: garris williams was a spy for mi 6, the british version of the cia, a code breaker and brilliant mathematician. his bizarre death has police and mi 6 totally baffled. two years ago his decomposed body was found zipped in a bag in his bathtub. the bag was zip and padlocked with the keys underneath his body. they've seen film of man with a

similar physique attempting to zip himself into an identical duffel bag. they're wondering if he could have locked himself into the bag on himself. he managing to get in, does up the zipper, but he cannot snap the pad lock shut. police conclude there must have been someone else in the apartment when he died, but who. very small dna traces have been found on the zipper, but they have not been traced. police did find some unusual items in the apartment. a woman's orange wig hanging on chair and in a bedroom a yellow duffel bag and several boxes of women's clothe, mostly unworn worth more than $30,000. five years ago living this this flat the land lady found him in the middle of the bed on the floor in shorts with both hands tied to the bed post. he said he wanted to see if he could get free. >> this shoes bizarre behavior.

it should have been picked up by the vetters. >> reporter: the building behind me is the headquarters where garecht williams worked. his bosses have described him as a world-class offer but they express deep regret it took more than a week to notice he was missing. a delay that hampered his death. his family is convinced his death is related to his spywork and there's a cover-up. this was caught on cctv hours before he died. what happens next remain as history. anabel roberts, nbc news, london that and now back to new york with amy. >> all right, lester. thank you. when you think costco, the words bulk shopping probably answers your mind. but the discount retailer has finds you'll only expect to find at your bank. diana olick explains. >> reporter: you can get a box of waffles and enough toilet

he's the 28-year-old charged with murdering north carolina teen phylicia barnes. court testimony revealed johnson and barnes traded as many as 500 messages in the summer before barnes disappeared. 10 days before the teen went missing, prosecutors say barnes told her sister she felt uncomfortable around johnson and she did not like the way he was looking at her. >> if you are guilty, it is going to come out. if it does not come out in the wash, it will definitely come out in the rinse. >> prosecutors say they have video of johnson buying a large storage bin at walmart. they also say johnson removed a g.p.s. that police put on his car during the course of investigation. >> testimony continued for the trial of eli and aviwartershine. on the stand, a defense witness, the first person to arrive on the scene and maybe the only third party who saw what happened between the

shorts and a pink top she took the photo of herself on her iphone before she went out to fwrogy bottoms bar for a night of drinking and karaoke. now, those items may hold clues to what happened to her. >> this photo is a true and accurate depiction of how she was dressed and what she would have looked like. >> reporter: police won't reveal how they got the photo or whether she sent it to anyone after she snapped it. more than 500 volunteers this week took to a heavily wooded area near froggy bottoms, hunting for any trace of the 23-year-old army medic who disappeared after leaving the fayetteville bar. thursday's search was the largest yet in the case, which is now entering its second week. nicholas holbert, a registered sex offender, who lived in a tent behind the bar told investigators he gave kelly a ride home and she insisted he drop her off at the apartment complex's entrance. police say it's unclear if she ever made it home.

have. i can't imagine that anybody is going to have any empathy, sympathy orks want to kind of step into the shoes of andrew young. i just don't see this case and this expenditure of money as being anything other than kind of a show trial. >> and it's revealed that much of them, much of it ended up going to the building of his house. but if any of it did end up in funneling toward edwards' mistre mistress, doesn't that hold up a guilty verdict? >> no because basically they have to show that this money were intended for campaign donations and that the donations were then siphoned off to her. there isn't anybody that they're going be able to put up there. remember, fred barron is dead but hunter is not going to testify. so they don't have anybody who's -- >> clearly this isn't all the prosecution's case. what do they have to do to repair the damage and really sustain the basis of their case? >> i just don't think they're going to be able to get up from

during the hours that isabel went missing. isa, as she's known to family and friends was last seen sleeping in her bed on april 20. the next morning her father told police she was gone. her window was open, the screen pushed aside. no suspects have been named. police are still calling it a suspicious disappearance. >> we will never give up. will never give up looking for you. >> reporter: isabel's parents broke their silence on wednesday. a day later sergio celis was in court on an unrelated charge, pleading not guilty to misdemeanor leash violations after his dogs wandered away from their home. celis did not speak to reporters and was escorted out of court by police. >> there's a lot of questions, more questions than answers obviously. i know sergio and his wife had nothing do with it. >> reporter: they go across the border as they've now said they've been in contact with mexican law enforcement

measurements as a guideline only. there are some key things you want to look for to know if your bra is fitting properly. the first thing would be the bridge, this little piece in the center. it should be right flush against you there. as it is, your breasts should be contained within the cup, so nothing should be billowing out the top or squeezing in any way, and, of course, there should be no gaping. that would mean it's too big we want to turn around to the back. it's not riding up or pulling down. it's perfectly flat where it should be. you want to be able to fit two fingers snuggly right here. this is fitting you nicely. on the scorecard, this one is a 36c. we have another one from jc penney, barely there, we'll start you in a 34c.
