a homeless man who had been receiving food aid from the church entered and apparently at random shot weber was in his way, then turned the gun on himself. it was chaotic outside of st. peter's episcopal church in ellicott city thursday evening. swat team members burst in after reports of two women been shot inside. pronounced that at the scene was a 59-year-old woman who work the front desk. a 62-year-old co-director was transported to shock trauma with life-threatening gun shot wounds. and knowingher, that could happen in a church of all things -- my wife and i are active in our church, and i just cannot and manchin how that could happen. >> neighbors reacted in horror.

family and friends gathered at home.cotellicott city as far as a motive, the police say a homeless man, 56-year-old douglas jones, living in the woods near the church regularly visited the food bank and recently had become angry with staff members after they would not allow him to come around anymore because of his behavior. >> he was described as belligerent, argumentative, and they recently asked him not to return. >> the police say he entered the church and confronted the two women in the front office, shot them both, then went back to his campsite in the woods and shot and killed himself. the police are not sure how many times the women were shot or where the weapon came from, but they know the victims were randomly target. >> we did not believe these victims were specifically targeted. we think he may have been frustrated with the church as a whole and these two staff members happen to be there. >> the episcopal diocese of

maryland released a statement saying that it is sad and by the shootings and is pressing for the victim's and their families. reverent kohn remains and grieve condition -- rev. the kohn remains in grave condition this evening. body was found at a middle school in northwest baltimore. we know he is between the ages of 18-20. we're told he was discovered early this morning near windsor elementary middle school. investigators got a call about a gun going off around 11:30 last night, but when they conducted a search, nothing turned out. so far, the police say no students were involved, but the school is working with. -- is working with the police. >> the school will be closed for a time until homicide complete their investigation.

they're working cooperation with the school police to keep them aware of our progress. >> a preliminary investigation shows the man likely died of a gunshot wound, that is not yet confirmed. storms rolled in last night, bringing lightning and huge downpours. what can we expect tonight? here is tom tasselmyer. >> there could be storms right now, no immediate threat to baltimore city, but storms have been popping up through the afternoon and early evening. the main threat in maryland and south, moving through p.g. county, charles county, southern anne arundel county, could cast a check the eastern shore -- could catch the eastern shore. the storms in eastern pennsylvania are working to the southeast. continuing to push to the south. the storms and pennsylvania making a run to the south could give us a little bit of a lightning display.

august 1. jayne miller sat down with bealefeld to talk about his decision. she joins us live now from city police headquarters. >> fred bealefeld characterized his decision to retire as personal. >> the realist story is i am going to be 50 in august. people say, you are just this young kid, but i have been doing this for 31 years. i don't feel like a young kid. >> it was all about family as fred bealefeld explained his decision to leave the job. he says he and his family are anxious for change. >> i was absolutely influenced in this decision. i was influenced in this decision mostly by linda and erica bealefeld. >> wife and daughter? >> yes, and they are ready for me to come home, they are ready for me to do something else.

economy says there were fewer jobs added that expected, the second straight month of sluggish job growth. today it was the hot topic on the campaign trail. sally kidd is live at our washington bureau with tonight's project economy report. >> this less than favorable jobs report comes one day before the president officially launches his reelection campaign. the unemployment rate dipped to 8.1% in april, down 0.1% from march. >> the unemployment rate ticked down again. >> president obama taught at the number during a speech. >> after the worst economic crisis since the great depression, our businesses have now created more than 4.2 million new jobs over the last 26 months, more than 1 million jobs and the last six months alone. >> with the economy taking center stage in the battle for the white house, fluctuations in unemployment have become a chief talking point on both sides of the campaign trail.
