extremely seriously. the department does not tolerate misconduct from its officers. this officer was removed from his position as a fitness trainer and our training academy. >> williams has been charged with second-degree assault and is on administrative leave. a man will spend 25 years behind bars for shooting a police officer. he admitted to shooting the officer back in 2011. police say jordan filed a shot, hitting the officer in the leg. >> president obama is holding a rare meeting with top members from both parties.

pimlico. 67 degrees. it is a beautiful morning. i'm a live outside the stakes barn where a few of the horses will be racing. a local farm is passed to have a horse in the race as well. one local farm is open to bring a lasting impression and some energy back to maryland thoroughbred racing. sagamore farm has a history of producing racing champions. a famous horse won the preakness and belmont stakes. they're having three horses competing this weekend. humble and hungry will race in the dixie stakes.

tiger what will compete on the preakness stakes on saturday evening. we watched his daily work out. >> it is pretty tough. the horse is doing good. he came out of a nice effort and he is improving always. we're hoping for his best effort in the race. >> tiger walk is the first horse under kevin plank to compete in the preakness. >> we're building something special here and i think it pushes people up. >> their goal is to regulate compete for the triple crown. >> we are all long shots.

news about what you're paying for your health care. annual cost for the average family are still on the rise. it stands at over $20,000. that rate of increase is at its lowest it has been in 10 years. markets are still in free fall mode. there is a government turmoil in greece. the bloomberg maryland index did get a boost. results from the retail industry will be looked at by investors. we'll hear from staples and target. big lots supporting armed forces day. a special 10% discount this saturday. you have to show some kind of office depot will provide returning troops with job opportunities within the office depot.

$247 million. supporters say this is about raising taxes. >> do you want good schools? >> the income-tax increase will impact 13.7% of maryland wage earners. those opposed say the state cannot tax its way into prosperity. others call the action a rubber- stamp. one said decisions have been made, and we're only here to confirm it. >> it is important to be straight with people. we don't want to make our communities less safe. >> we do not want to hurt education. we think there are other areas that we can reduce it to save our citizens their tax-paying dollars. >> the budget package has a quick hearing followed by an even faster vote. an amendment to allow local jurisdictions to opt out of shifting the cost of teacher pensions. >> do they want to be in the

defined benefit plan? >> if the house gives its approval, elements of the bill will go to the governor's office for his signature. we are told he would not be signing anything today. >> a teacher is charged with molesting a student. he's accused of having a sexual relationship with a student in 2011. he is a veteran of the school system that was put on administrative anleave. a couple faces federal charges of keeping aeenapersonal sex li. they have been charged with luring a 15-year-old to their home. both cases are set to go on trial next month. >> two umbc employees were using

>> it is supposed to be cats that have nine lives. it was merely the curtains for this puppy after he was swept up by this hawk. he fell into the lap of a boy. his parents will let him keep the poppy. >> mother would knows no boundaries -- his parents will let him keep the puppy. she cleans the kittens. the mother is producing milk for the kids to feed on. that is incredible. they are doing just fine. >> 65 degrees on tv hill.

>> welcome back to 11 news today. 6:44. police have a new shooting on the books from overnight. officers were called to the 600 block of brisbane road. one of the victims was shot several times. the of the victim was shot once and remains in serious but stable condition. the state board of estimates will take up the plan to take the will of the baltimore grand prix -- will take the wheel.

that continues down towards edmondson. tapping the brakes at the beltway after you merge with the west side traffic. 43 on southbound 95. starting to get heavier. you can see some yellow around harford heading towards perring parkway. this is 83 at padonia. no sign of any significant delay. volume is building as you get closer to the beltway. this is 95 at 395. we're not seeing any delays in towards conaway. a pretty smooth ride. that is the latest on traffic pulse 11. ava marie is joining us live from pimlico. you had kegasus last time. >> it should be interesting on saturday. i am live outside the stakes barn.

i understand there are three of the horses that are here right out in the barns. we have a big flight coming in later this afternoon were more horses will be coming in from louisville. it is pretty calm at the barns. only two laps to warm up and walking with the trainer. they only hit it hard every couple of weeks to condition for the race. there was a nice bubble bath for tiger walk. he will have to step it up to compete with the other horses.
