mistake. we're going to show you all those videos and more. >> and we will stop also and talk about the life and legacy of donna summer who passed away on thursday after a ten-month battle with cancer. a remarkable lady, and some of the songs that are kind of the anthems from our young adult years and so we'll look back at that, as well. let's go inside. natalie is standing by at the news desk. she's got a check of all the headlines. >> all right, good morning to you guys once again. good morning, everyone. tributes are pouring in for legendary singer donna summer who died thursday at her home in florida. quincy jones tweets summer was a heartbeat and soundtrack of a decade. and president obama released a statement saying her voice was unforgettable. summer became known as the queen of disco in the 1970s. lost her battle with cancer at the age of 63. a memorial for summer will be held next week in nashville. now to an incredible story of survival. a california man missing for a week is finally discovered just yards from his wrecked pickup truck, unconscious, but alive.

nbc's ron mott is in san jose with details. ron, good morning. >> hey, natalie, good morning to you. the doctor who first treated this 25-year-old man here at this hospital on tuesday calls his survival remarkable. and his recovery so far, unusual. >> if he'd been 60 years of age, no chance, really. >> reporter: police say they found michael sanchez jr. unconscious, and barely alive on tuesday, down this highway embankment. and the doctor who cared for him in the e.r. says his survival is far outside the norm. >> this is quite unbelievable, actually, yeah. that he's made as much recovery as he has made in just 48 hours. >> reporter: authorities report a witness saw a speeding truck pass them in the early hours of may 8th. go off the road, and come to a stop after rolling over, and then a person getting out and walking away into the dark. they called 911, police found no one. >> we had pretty good reason to believe that this person left the scene, and really didn't desire contact with us at that point.

>> reporter: but a week later, checking the same area again police discovered sanchez, unresponsive in thick brush. >> he was a good quarterback. >> reporter: for his family, which had circulated missing posters, it was a big relief. yet questions linger. >> 60 feet, that's not very far from where the truck was at. spent a little bit more time and looked around, maybe they would have saw him. >> reporter: doctors say sanchez arrived severely dehydrated with a head wound and failing kidneys. >> i don't doubt that he was where he was for seven or eight days, hidden away in the field of the bushes. >> reporter: the doctor says michael sanchez is opening his eyes. his kidneys are improving. his vitals are stable. but he's far from out of the woods. >> but still very lucky indeed. ron mott in san jose, california. facebook is all that wall street is talking about today, with the stock trading today on the nasdaq for the first time. this initial stock offering is the largest ever for an internet

company. and with facebook valued at more than $100 billion it's worth more than companies like disney, ford and kraft. japan has taken its first step toward the commercial space flight business. it launched a rocket carrying a domestic satellite and a south korean satellite that will conduct research on the earth. a regularal celebration is under way in london this hour with royals from around the world descending upon windsor castle for a luncheon honoring queen elizabeth's diamond jubilee. the duke and duchess of cham bridge as well as prince harry are also joining in on the fun. and thursday's game between the arizona diamondbacks and colorado rockies is getting a lot of buzz this morning. thousands of bees, in fact, swarmed the field during the fifth inning, bombarding the camera operator. the game was briefly delayed until they used, of all things, a vacuum, to remove them. quite unbelievable. five minutes past the hour. let's go back outside to al. >> sweet! very nice. all right, thanks, honey. let's show you what's going on for "today."

again, we've got not much in the way of heavy rain with the exception of southern florida. we've also got some showers and thunderstorms making their way through the northern plains. otherwise, a gorgeous day here in the northeast. mid-atlantic states may see some showers and thunderstorms. rain in the northern plains. beautiful in the pacific northwest. seattle, sunshine, 62 degrees. windy from southern california on into central texas. but still plenty of sunshine. >> good morning. it will turn out to be a beautiful afternoon. we expect mostly sunny skies. >> that's your latest weather. savannah?

stunning twree yo of windows that just makes that room pop. the master bedroom is massive and feels even bigger than it is thanks to the high, cathedral ceilings. >> we've got a big house in wilmington, delaware. >> these are all big houses. we're driving value today for under $400,000. this is a 1905 neoclassic home and in a really good spot in town. within walking distance from the brandywine creek park and zoo, and it's also close to uptown's best cafes and art venues. the house has a column wraparound porch, the kitchen has oversize 42 inch cherry cabinets. they're expensive. granite counters and under cabinet lights. the dining room has built-in cabinets. gleaming floors in the living room, original millwork and a cozy fireplace. look at that turned stair case with a big window at its landing. that is a pretty room, mostly because of i think that beautiful stair case. the third floor music room looks a bit stuffy. i don't think they're listening

now look at some dramatic moments recently caught on tape. nbc's jeff rossen is back with a segment we like to call "busted!." >> we call it that because cameras are always rolling, all these people we're about to show you, innocent until proven guilty, and we have some real doozies today. right to the first one, it's from philadelphia, it's in a doughnut shop called fresh doughnuts. this man is ordering a sandwich, and he's also ordering coffee, like many of us do. >> sure. >> he's arguing with the woman because she says you didn't pay me yet. he says i already did pay you, and so while they're arguing the woman still gives him the coffee but watch what he does next.

>> i paid you for my stuff, man. >> oh! . did he throw the coffee at her? >> took the hot coffee and threw it all over her. the woman actually got second degree burns, you can see the bandage on her arm. she's going to be okay and here's one of those situation, because the cameras were rolling this guy's going to get in trouble. they put it out to the local news. the police did. the man saw himself so much on television he turned himself in. he is now charged, his lawyer has no comment. >> all right. innocent until proven guilty. >> exactly. >> not a great week for doughnut shops. this is one down in florida. >> this is a good lesson not to go to doughnut shops too often. dunkin' donuts during the morning rush. everyone is in line waiting for their food. two masked robbers hop in, hop over the counter. that man on the left in the baseball cap tries to tackle one of the robbers to the ground but he ends up losing, the robber gets the best of him, kicks him the good samaritan while he's on the ground. they get away. you saw him kick him on his way

out, too. police chase ensues and we actually have video of the car went off an embankment, as you can see, and police ended up arresting these men are still in jail on multiple charges. >> all right. let's stay in florida. this one in tampa. and the tampa police are looking for tips on this case. >> this is real serious. this is a 24-year-old army soldier, he's new to the area, he's walking back to the army base, when all of a sudden, that's him in the back, those men in front, you see what happens, one of them walks up and just sucker punches him out of nowhere. >> oh. >> this is disturbing video. >> this is brutal. >> we should mention, he's okay. he's out of the hospital. that's important to keep in mind as you're watching this. they steal his money and his cell phone. you can see two of them, now three of them are working on him. a fourth man runs up. you think maybe he's going to help? no he starts kicking him on the ground, as well. we should mention, these four men are still on the loose. police are using this video as evidence, but they're trying to find these guys. if you have any information call tampa police. big reward out for their arrest.

>> move to buffalo, new york. the kind of disturbing hit and run case. >> it's actually amazing for police that a camera was rolling at the time. these kids were just out walking at night. out of nowhere. look at that car. comes out of nowhere. that's an 18-year-old boy who actually goes flying into the air. >> how is he? >> believe it or not, he's okay. he went to the hospital. he's already out of the hospital recovering. the 19-year-old driver once again, partially because of this videotape evidence, was arrested. he is now in jail charged with assault. look at him flying through the air. but he's okay. >> that's just amazing. all right now we've got a bus driver with total lapse of judgment. this caused a big pileup in texas. >> sometimes you hear about people and their cars hitting the gas instead of a break. it's a much bigger deal when you do it and you're driving a bus. not only because of people in the bus. one, two, three, and the third car ends up going up in the air. >> how long did it take him to realize? >> that's everyone on the bus who is getting jolted. there were only seven injuries

here, nothing serious. >> that's amazing. >> this bus driver has now lost his job. that's what happens when you have all that weight of the bus. >> the sheer momentum of it. that's amazing. now a couple of weeks ago you showed us a guy walking through a store naked. >> which was one of your favorites. >> absolutely. i've got blowups of it back in my office. you're an equal opportunity guy. you got some new video. >> we wanted just to represent guys it's not only men who like to go shopping naked. this woman just walked into a lumber store out of nowhere. there she is. we mosaiced it. >> wow. >> she is fully naked. walks around, she actually said good-bye to them on the way out, then went to other store which was not caught on camera. >> that's a different woman -- >> there were actually 16 -- >> it's a parade! >> it's like al roker's lobby. and she's actually been arrested for, you know, lewdness and she's in jail. she said she just wanted to express herself. >> they know she wasn't shoplifting.

entertaining in the summer. make ahead. eat at room temperature. >> right. >> and there's something for everybody. the young-ones, the grandma. >> the younguns. >> i'm doing this for my graduation party for my high schooler. it's already road tested. here's a cool tip. >> what does this look like? >> this is oil that has been cooked with garlic chips. you don't want a big, raw, garlic bomb at a party. instead we flavored the oil with the garlic. and we're putting in one pound, already cooked ahead. >> right. >> of campenelli, little bells, and a big bunch, about half a cup of parsley. can you put in the walnuts, and then lots of lemon zest. that brings so much flavor. and that's it. just toss this together and the oil has already got that yummy garlic flavor, right? >> right. >> and then at the very end we put in a little bit of ricotta. which is just like dotted in there. and you can serve it on the side. and then a little more parsley. and this is what i like. i keep this on the side so that

anyone who doesn't want garlic, but i do, you like garlic? when it's like this, it's so nice. and then just a little, and you're good. >> all right. >> so here's steak. this is flank steak which you do ahead. you can use sirloin, london broil. cook it ahead. can you slice it ahead. here is an interesting, tangy, yummy sauce. we have black olives. pepperorcini, the peppers in a jar. we have parsley here. this is like a parsley thing. >> you like parsley? >> i love parsley. parsley stems. we don't want to waste them. parsley chopped. right. >> and some parsley juice. >> and then a little bit of parsley from the garden. some oregano. all you do, if you want to pour that in, we want about two-thirds of a cup of olive oil. bring it together, emulsify. doesn't it look great? and it's so tangy and a little salty and that just goes here on the side. and then, because as i said, you might have people that just want to grab a sandwich and go.

some nice sliced bread and you're good with that. >> how far ahead can you make this? >> this honestly, i keep it in the fridge for two or three days. but you can also just do it right ahead. there's so much do ahead here. in the summer you want to be in your people. you don't want to be in the kitchen cooking. we have a loose, beautiful salad. i made croutons by ripping bread and toasting it. we just scatter. this is last-minute. just scatter and then a nice, mustardy dressing. which by the way, on the plate, this mustardy dressing is also great with that. >> it does double duty? >> everything does double duty. that's what makes it easy. >> there's no parsley in this. >> all right. this is the parsley punch -- just kidding! this is what i like to do, i like to do a bunch, this is pineapple coconut water and ginger ale and a little gin and vodka on the side. for the grown-ups. soft and hard. always thinking like that. and this is the little brownie idea, which is make delicious brownies, and these chocolate chunk brownies are beyond the beyond.
