[captioning made possible by constellation energy group] captioned by the national captioning institute --www.ncicap.org-- >> good evening. we are following three big stories. the first storm of the season is turning and in the atlantic. a chance for the triple crown is alive following the dramatic finish at the preakness. first, a developing story out of northeast baltimore. one man is dead after an officer-involved shooting. it happened on elmora avenue. police responded to a report of a mentally disturbed man who apparently became violent. investigators say he tried to pull a gun from an officer's coulter. investigators say another officer, fearing for his colleague's life, shot the man. a resident in the neighborhood

said the scene was unreal. >> it was chaotic. police everywhere. ambulance. this is something that does not normally happen on this block. it was wild. >> medical personnel rushed the man to shop, where he later died. investigators say the officer who was attacked was also taken to the hospital. he is expected to be all right. homicide detectives are investigating, which is standard procedure. >> off in the preakness. bodemeister -- >> i new crop of four beds captor rate -- their breads captivated the crowd today at the preakness. it was a thrilling preakness.

one will have a chance to do something no other horse has done in 34 years. what a day you had. >> it could not have been a whole lot better. we may have had the most perfect day for a preakness ever. the crowd was more than 121,000 enjoying the scene at churchill downs. i will have another run on bodemeister. it was not his day today. the was the favorite and ran a couple of hundred yards. the have another turn on jets as if the course knew exactly where the finish line was. big brown won the first two legs in 2008.

alberto has a 50 mile per hour winds and is moving southwest at 6 miles per hour. that thin, blue line shows its track today. where will it go? the latest estimates indicate it will turn around and come back north. by tuesday evening, it will be off the hatteras coast and as straight as it moves to the north east. it does not look like we are a direct target for this storm. the thing is, we may get some rain out of it even though we will not get a storm. i will explain all of that coming up with the forecast. >> president obama and g8 leaders wrapped up their summit in maryland today. they vowed to be united on a common goal -- fixing the economy. the crisis in greased threatens to spread. they will help the country as long as priest stands by its commitments. also on the agenda, nuclear threats in iran. syria and food security in africa.

>> the leaders here understand the stakes in know the magnitude of the choices they have to make in the enormous political, economic, and social cost if they do not. >> the white house is downplaying the absence of russian president vladimir putin. he set his prime minister. the obama administration said the u.s. and russia are still working together at this summit. with world leaders descendant -- descending on frederick county, hundreds of protesters showed up. david collins spent the day in fair amount. >> fair amount elected officials, local police, and emergency officials knew there would be protesters well in advance of the summit. there were no arrests or reported injuries. peaceful prep -- noisy but peaceful protest world the day. some 200 ethiopian expatriates'

>> police investigating a double shooting in baltimore that happened about 1:30 this morning. police arrived at the scene, but the victims were not there. two men showed up at the john hopkins emergency room, both shot multiple times. no word on noted. same-sex marriage proponents got a huge endorsement. the ndp -- naacp is now backing day marriage. the board voted to recognize a resolution recognizing merit equality. they call same-sex marriage a civil right. the civil-rights organization opposes any efforts to codify discrimination or hatred into the law. can you remember when it was this perfect? >> absolutely.

whole storm here radar-wise. some of the storm is out of range. we are only seeing part of the storm. some pretty good rain falling in there. the storm is sticking to the southwest. that is probably a temporary situation. but take a look at what happened today. what wonderful weather. 75 is your typical high. almost 10 degrees warmer at the airport. 82-85. morning lows mostly in the 50's to around 60 degrees. no rain today. too much sun for that. annapolis, 70. 60 at ocean city. 66 edwards. westminster at 66 degrees. beginning to drop into the 50's in far western maryland. it will not be quite as chilly overnight tonight as last night. here is the satellite image showing the clear skies.

the thin clouds are coming up off of alberto, the tropical storm. there is also this kind of decayed weather disturbance directly off shore. it is a complex situation out there. the upside is this high-pressure is over the eastern seaboard right now and is holding the stronger weather off to the eastern side, for the time being anyway. alberto is being pushed to the south. changes coming -- yes. alberto will eventually make a move. the high pressure weakens. it will allow some of the stormy weather to come our way of the atlantic and eventually this front out to the west will come in. as soon as this high-pressure gives away, several days of rain in the forecast. but not tonight. mostly clear. partly cloudy tomorrow. it will start out sunny, but pick up some clouds. after dark tomorrow, the rain chance goes to a 83 design.

72 the high tomorrow. a very nice day. east winds. 5-10 knots. winds a little stronger to our south. a small craft advisory tomorrow. water temperatures have gotten up to around 70 degrees. futurecast -- what's the timeline. this is alberto down here. you can see the rain and clouds get closer to us. by monday evening, a few showers in the forecast. alberto still well to the south. monday, a lot more rain coming in from the ocean. monday into tuesday, alberto start to make its move to the north-northeast. we still have rain in our forecast. 71 on monday. monday a lot cooler because of clouds and rain chance. rain chance for showers and thunderstorms tuesday. backing off a little bit wednesday and thursday. cool weather through the end of the week. >> there is so much going on.
