volunteers, and a persistence of its people. >> the road has been hard and the day has been long. >> president obama told joplin high school's class of 2012 to use their experience theme that is the spirit that has allowed all of you to rebuild the city and that is the same spirit we need now to help rebuild america. >> minutes after graduates were handed diplomas one year ago, a monster tornado came through shredding homes and businesses and leaving the worst death toll in six decades. >> it is not just for today or tomorrow, but for the long haul. >> on monday, the white house said since the tornado struck, the federal government approved more than $20 million to help victims. also more than $40 million in loans for business as. >> it will come back bigger and stronger, everything. it will take a mountain of time.

and charged him with possession of a destructive device. police in annapolis are searching for an alleged rapist who attacked a woman in a busy section of town over the weekend. investigators say the men dragged her into an alley before assaulting her. we have more on where police are turning for answers. >> police said the woman was walking by herself, leading debtor with friends when the man attacked her. investigators say they don't have much to go on and they are looking for any possible witnesses. the 21-year-old victim was walking home from busy west street after a night out with friends. police say they noticed a man following her so she crossed the street and he crossed after her and the next thing she knew he had grabbed her and dragged her into an alleyway. >> the alleyway sits between two homes. she told police the man threw her to the ground beef her up, and sexually assaulted her. she was eventually able to fighter of and he took off

running. the victim could not provide much of a description. it was dark and a man grabbed her from behind. the attack happened at 1:30 in the morning saturday when downtown annapolis has an active night life. police are hoping that someone noticed something out of the ordinary. >> is a very busy area that time of night there are people leaving restaurants and bars and there are cabdrivers' driving for all the time. we are hoping that someone might have seen someone running from the area. >> police are checking with businesses in the area to see if the man was caught on any surveillance tapes. >> thank you. fire officials and anne arundel counties say smoke detector save the lives of a family when their home caught fire overnight. it took in 80 firefighters an hour to control a fire on nottingham drive. the fire was reported around 3:00 a.m. and quickly went to two alarms unknown was injured but the red cross is assisting the family while fire crews

investigate. baltimore city police are investigating a deadly shooting from overnight. officers responded just before 12:30 this morning where they discovered the male victim later died at the hospital. less than one week after lawmakers concluded a special session to fix the state budget, there are more signs pointing to a second special session later this summer. lawmakers have formed their work group aimed at exploring the benefits of expanded gambling in maryland. some topics include fair compensation to existing facilities and determining dates for table game expansion. once the group members get a handle, there will propose legislation for the general assembly of necessary. the group meets for the first time june 1 with two more meetings later on in the month ended a consensus is reached, the special second session will start the week of july 9. still ahead, details of a recall involving jeep cherokees and the happiest place on earth is about to cost you more.
