help fund her extensive shopping habits. >> the mess she left behind and what she did in court today. first, a developing story. an extremely violent night in baltimore city. in just a two-hour span, seven people shot in three separate areas. at least two of the victims are now dead. this is the scene of the most recent shooting, just before 8:00. police responded to a call that three people were shot in the 2600 block of east preston street. they found two men and women with gunshot wounds. one of the men died and the other is in critical condition. the female is listed in serious condition. 1.5 hours before that, homicide detectives were checking out york rd. one man was shot there. that victim has died as well. in southwest baltimore, investigators say three people were shot on west fayette near shipley.

police say the two men and women were sitting on the front porch of a home when someone came up and started opening fire on the trio. paramedics transported all three to the hospital. the woman is in critical condition. the men are serious. investigators believe this group was targeted. police are looking into whether the shootings are connected. we are also following the latest in our big story tonight, the essex woman accused of stealing money from the middleborough fire company. >> she stole more than $100,000 from the fire company. live with more on this story. >> baltimore county police arrested lisa o'connor in september of last year. the current president says that the volunteer fire company is struggling to stay open. >> it was january of last year when staff at the volunteer fire company first realized something was wrong with the way lisa

o'connell was handling the finances. >> when we received word that the truck was being repossessed, that is how we found out initially. >> vendors called to say they had not received payments. soon, police were investigating o'connor, who had been the president and acting treasurer since february 2010 very according to prosecutors, she started stealing money, taking cash withdrawals every month as soon as she took the job and stole $122,000. they say she spent thousands of merchandise from amazon and also use the money to make renovations on her home. o'connor pled guilty on thursday. current president john henderson says the company is still struggling to regain people's trust. they rely on donations from the community. >> they look at it as, the fire company cannot be trusted. the donations come down, the operating expenses go down. >> henderson said they are down tens of thousands of dollars.

they had to sell the fire truck that they did not make payments on and an ambulance is sitting in the parking lot because they cannot afford to repair it. o'connor did not come to the door at her home on thursday. her sentencing is scheduled for august. she started paying restitution to the fire company before she entered her guilty plea in court. she faces up to 16 years in prison. reporting live in baltimore county. >> we have learned a baltimore city police sergeant, an 18-year veteran on the force, is under investigation after a run in with the judge. the incident is under internal investigation. it involves baltimore district court judge john gordon, who -- joan gordon. they got into an argument about a warrant. later, the judge learned he may have -- the sergeant may have

recorded her without her consent. tonight, more about an attack and robbery at a downtown 7-11. a group of teenage kids of salted the clerk working at the convenience store. investigators tell us is started with a company promotion for free slurpees. the kids became unruly and assaulted the employee. in addition, the clerk says they also took a bank deposit worth $6,600. >> a marine found dead in his barracks. he was assigned to the marine corps student detachment. he is being -- identification is being withheld pending notification of next of kin for it a security scare at thurgood marshall airport briefly delayed at least one flight today. it happened around lunchtime. a baggage handler spotted what looked like smoke coming out of a piece of luggage which was about to be loaded onto a plane.

airport fire and police and a bomb squad responded. authorities determine the substance was harmless. >> the bag contained an aerosol can, which had discharged into the bag, into the air. the spray had the appearance of smoke. >> the flight later did take off en route to las vegas. the tse has a mixed message about aerosols. they are considered a flammable substance but hair spray is an exception. >> fire officials are trying to figure out what ignited an internal in a glen burnie home this evening. you can see the -- how intense the flames were. if you take a closer look, you can see the furniture melt as the fire roared. the fire broke out a little after 5:30. thankfully, no one was hurt. baltimore city fire officials investigating the charred

remains of this beauty salon and restaurant. a fire engulfed the building just after 2:00 this afternoon along greenmount avenue. the people inside were able to make it out. investigators were called to the scene for it >> new poll numbers indicate more maryland voters will support the same-sex marriage if the referendum makes it on the ballot in november. we all lie in the newsroom. a breakdown of those numbers. >> the new numbers, released by public policy poling, show a 12- point shift in support for same- sex marriage from just a few months ago. >> the holiday weekend is just around the corner. >> we are still counting. we will be counting throughout the weekend. we do not get the wonderful barbecue grill like everyone else. we will work to count these numbers 3 >> the executive director for the maryland marriage alliance has been spearheading efforts to get same-sex marriage on the ballot

in november. despite new polling numbers that issue more support, that is not stopping him from getting all of the petitions that are needed. >> the new polling numbers give me more energy than ever. i just realized, day-by-day, we see different polling numbers. >> according to a new public policy goal, 54% of voters would vote to uphold the same-sex marriage law while 37% would not. that is up 12 points from an identical poll taken in march. this could be attributed to a recent report -- recent support from the president. >> this is an example of extraordinary presidential leadership. the president, beginning with the abolition of do not ask, do not tell, has taken a leadership role and has brought the country along. >> we have seen diametrically the opposite. we have had more engagement, more people wanting to sign this petition, more people being

engaged since after the obama statement and the naacp statement. >> it may signal a shift, but some are determined to keep marriage between a man and woman. >> most campaigns know you got run a campaign based on the pulling of any given day. that is what we're doing. >> they have more than one month to get more than 55,000 petition signed to get the issue on the ballot. organizers are confident they will get twice that amount. >> thank you. a carroll county man facing several charges after police say he ran over a kid and multiple times. investigators say surveillance video caught this 59-year-old in the act, running over the kitten over and over again with his truck. he is charged with animal cruelty and the mutilation of an animal. and if you whiffed a stench in

the inner harbor, new reports of one under 65 dead fish in the harbor for it they believe a total of 1000 fish may have perished. the maryland department of the environment says the latest turn up of dead fish is consistent with those killed in northern el dorado county. the death toll is in the tens of thousands. the fish suffocated because of a lack of oxygen from an early out to bloom. it is not toxic to humans and often happens when there is a surplus of chemicals in the water. >> today, the trainer of winner i'll have another, which won the kentucky derby and preakness, vigorously denied that he built his horses. the hearing still ended in a suspension. more with what it means for doug o'neill.

>> not exactly the birthday gift doug o'neill had in mind. the trainer celebrated his 44th birthday today. he learned he would face a 45- day suspension. the punishment would not begin until after the belmont and it would not interfere with his quest for a triple crown. ironically, the inquiry that led to a suspension support his claim that he did not intentionally, illegally dope his horse. it stems from elevated carbon dioxide levels found in a hoarse after a race in california in 2010. it often indicates a practice known as milkshaking, giving them an illegal substance to enhance their performance. o'neill denies the act. the trend remains responsible for elevated carbon dioxide levels even if by that -- even if investigators cannot identify the cause of the elevated it co2

>> with memorial day weekend just around the corner, maryland state police are buckling down on nighttime seat belt use. area police departments spent the evening checking the drivers were securely fastened to their vehicles. part of the click it or ticket campaign and police will be in full force this weekend. anyone not wearing a seatbelt expect to pay a fine. >> we want parents and drivers to get the message. wear your seat belt, reduce that injury, maybe save your life or someone else's. >> highway officials say approximately one out of every 16 maryland residents do not wear seat belts. nearly 52% of nighttime deaths on the roadways in the past five years were due to not buckling up. many u.s. servicemen and women

struggled to find jobs when they return home. employers are trying to change that. a vets only job expo was held today with 70 companies looking to hire veterans. employers say they value the type of leadership skills and discipline that come from serving in the military. meanwhile, congressman filat cummings discuss proposed legislation offering protection for military members to face foreclosure. >> we have got to protect our service members. we cannot have them going overseas and fighting for us and at the same time, while they are on the battlefield, trying to figure out how they will keep a roof over the heads of their wives and children. >> under that proposal, those disabled at the time of this charge will be protected from foreclosure for up to 12 months. the thousands killed will be protected under that legislation. >> it is time to talk about hurricanes. the hurricane season starts in just eight days. while this year is not expected

to be as busy at last year, it does not mean we are off the hook. >> a warning to marylanders who live on the coast. stock up on hurricane supplies and for evacuation plans. >> the most important time to prepare is now. >> the national oceanic and atmospheric administration predicts 9-15 tropical storms will form this atlantic hurricane season, of which 4-8 will strengthen into hurricanes. >> 1-3 will four major hurricanes. >> the key to all of this is will any of these storms hit land? >> this year's storms is and will be near normal, less active than recent years. >> just because we are predicting a near normal season does not mean anyone is off the hook. the conditions that have been

>> here is why we are always on the vigilant look for tropical storms moving this way. that is a picture of irene. a category one hurricane that much time -- at one time very it plowed through our region with very heavy rains, coastal flooding. it was followed by the remnants of lee. that caused major flooding. that is a picture of what we are concerned with the hurricane season. irene is not on the list this year. the names cycle through every six years and that was retired because it was such a severe storm. the i this year is isaac. the next on the list is darrell. we are expecting up to 12 this season. that would take us up to the l

storm, leslie. in the east, in the bahamas, there are some storms. there is a little concerned that this might organize into a weak tropical system. keeping a close eye on it. in the meantime, some thunder storms out of northern virginia, just the west of baltimore. they are dissipating. also, some storms along the eastern shore. not much rain, in fact, none hit thurgood marshall. it was a warm day, with temperatures above normal. of in the '80s. not willing off fast. 77 degrees in baltimore tonight. another mild night. expect a little bit of fog for early friday morning. once that burns off, a nice start to the memorial day weekend. the remnants of an old front dissipating over the mid- atlantic. a hint of that still in the area

tomorrow. the possibility of an afternoon storm. there is the tropical stuff down in the bahamas. if to the northwest, this will not touch us this weekend, but winter storm warnings in effect. a couple of feet of snow in the highest elevations of the northern rockies. much different weather out west. we are in a pattern that will look a lot like summer. scattered or isolated storms tomorrow afternoon. after some fog burns off tomorrow morning, isolated storms saturday and sunday afternoon. most of the storms will remain essentially dry and wish that -- and with that comes a warming trend. on the bay, light winds, waves just one or 2 feet. mountain weather looking good into the weekend. a gradual warming trend with a minimal chance of a thunderstorm. eastern shore, warming temperatures will be in the upper 80s by saturday. down in ocean city, for the
