was already in place before the mid week of violence. a man was shot multiple times in the head. another man was killed on preston st.. investigators say some of the additional victims are caught in the crossfire is. >> these are targeted incidents. there were targeted for silly things, to be frank. >> the police department's plan for the holiday weekend includes additional officers on foot patrol at the inner harbor and in the northern, eastern, and southwest police district. administrative duty officers and recent academy graduates are being called in to increase the numbers. patricia jones lives in the northern district. >> there will -- people will not be so afraid to sit out on their

porch. >> even if you see a drug dealer on the street, if they say put -- see police, they will move. the presence on the street, we need it. we need it. >> the third victim from those shootings this week has passed away. police say they are getting a level of cooperation from some of their victims, but they're working all of these cases are around the clock. >> one year ago today, and a man was shot and killed in east baltimore. his family is continuing to make their desperate plea for help as the crime remains unsolved. friends and family gathered for a candlelight vigil to honor his memory. he was fatally shot. his mother says the family simply wants closure. >> if you have a whisper of something, even if that does not

pan out, i just need to know. somebody has to know. >> he left behind two children. police say he had no prior criminal record. >> we are getting word that to baltimore city police officers are in hot water for what investigators say the commissioner saw with his own eyes. police tell us the commissioners suspended the officers after he spotted the pair at a cafe in downtown. investigators will not reveal what prompted the suspension, but we have learned the officers had to turn over their guns and badges. city police said the officers are suspended with pay. internal affairs is now investigating. baltimore city police are asking for your help in finding a sex offense suspect who they say to itself and pictures of a teenage girl underneath the stalled at she used a public bathroom at harbor place. it happened back in april. police have released

surveillance photos of the suspect. baltimore county police trying to crack the case of a sexual assault. it happened a long york wrote just before 4:30 yesterday morning. not too far from the university campus. investigators will not confirm whether the victim is a student. police said they have their craigslist robert in custody. investigators believe david brown was posting fake ads on the site. robbing them of cash and valuables at gunpoint when i got there. police say when they arrested him today, brown was using a public computer at a library downtown. investigators believe brown may have been trying to lure and another victim when they nabbed him. >> state police say the autopsies have shown that the man and two teenage sons found

dead died of asphyxia. the 48-year-old was found dead yesterday morning. the bodies were discovered in a maneuver. on a dairy farm. the medical examiners say the injuries were accidental and caused by heavy farming machinery. authorities have identified the marines found dead in his paris yesterday. the 19-year-old from north carolina was on active duty. he had been assigned to the defense information school since february. the cause of death remains unclear. the naval criminal investigative service is looking into the incident. >> george you believe is -- hug ely is appealing his sentence. defense attorneys asked the sentence be set aside. the judge delivered improper jury instructions, refused to

on a world war ii building found a cache of letters from the early 1940's. >> these guys were pulling down a dry wall and these letters. >> christmas cards, letters from fellow service members. >> dated september, 19, 1943. >> letters from all. >> this is the mother of sgt. sort of a sad letter. she references his father being ill and needing to find $25. she did not want to worry him about it. >> i cannot understand why some get to come home and some did not. that is what struck folks at this museum the most. these world war ii-era letters show service members with the same issues of modern soldiers might have. longing for home, missing family, looking for adventure. >> it seems like you had a whale

his lawyers say their client is mentally ill. still no verdict in the john edwards criminal case. the judge says she is dealing with a juror issue. he is charged with using money from wealthy donors to hide his pregnant mistress as he saw the 2008 democratic presidential nomination. if convicted, he could face up to 30 years in prison. >> 10 years after high school friend faults the accused him of kidnap and rape, brian banks was finally exonerated. he broke down in tears after hearing the judge's decision this week. he was just 16 when accused pretty spent five years in prison after taking a plea deal in order to avoid a life sentence. accuser reached out to him on facebook. he hired a private investigator to videotape their meeting, where she recanted her story.

class. in april 2011, he was paralyzed from the waist down in a freak accident. he was participating in the adventure race in virginia. it started to storm and while they were biking, a treat fell on him. >> i saw him face down. he was unconscious at the time. we knew that nobody was coming right away, so we had to do our best to keep him alive. >> he credits his friends with saving his life, but his back was broken. he spent weeks in intensive care undergoing back surgery. after that came months of physical therapy. through it all, he had one recurring thoughts. >> from the beginning, i was just hoping that i would be able to graduate with my class. >> after going through a lot of red tape, he got word that he is allowed to return to the naval

academy. >> it was one of the happiest times in my life. >> as scheduled, his family will be in the bleachers tuesday watching him received his diploma from the united states naval academy. >> i do not think i have been as proud of him as i have been in the last 12 months. the inner core of kim, when the chips are down, when life is tough, you see the true quality of an individual. >> he will grant a light -- he will graduate alongside the friends who saved his life. he has no plans to go to law school. >> just having a tolerance for adversity and uncertainty is helpful in any walk of life. i think that will benefit from this experience. >> he plans -- he has applied to three law schools in washington, d.c., and hopes to eventually work for the government. >> your insta-weather-plus

forecast with tom tasselmyer -- >> temperatures are warmer than normal and that trend will continue through the weekend. the normal high for the end of may is only in the mid-70's, but we were in the 80's today. expect those numbers to be close to the 90-degree mark for the next few days or so. running on the warm side. we only had a trace of precipitation, some spots had a little bit heavier showers. you see that little line of showers from the lower eastern shore. off to the north of us, there are a line of thunderstorms through cleveland and into northwestern pennsylvania, but that does not appear to be a major threat to us. overall, that front is expected to stall just to our north and not make it to baltimore. a pretty nice start to the

holiday weekend. 77 degrees in downtown baltimore. that is a good hint at how warm the weekend will be. it is not a lot cooler in the mountains. expect temperatures in the 60's and 70's to start saturday. patchy fog developing. the heat will be over the ohio valley, 90 in detroit today. that is slowly easing east. it was 92 in st. louis. 92 in nashville, tenn., as well. winter storm warnings about 6,000 feet in montana and northwestern parts of wyoming. they are expecting some some out over the memorial day weekend. stormy weather across the great lakes. off to the southeast, a new tropical development. it is the second named storm of the season.

off the coast of florida and developing into a well defined area of low pressure. not a full-blown tropical storm, but an issue -- but they issued a name. it is drifting north at nine, but watch the forecast track. high pressure over us, at the flow around it pushes the storm back to the north and south. it will head back toward jacksonville. if this storm does that, if it backs up, that leaves the door open to some beautiful weather in the mid-atlantic. goodness for ocean city, for sure. a little bit cooler at the coast. noticeably cooler than will be in baltimore. when the afternoon sea breeze develops, it makes for a pleasant afternoon on the beach. 78 in the mountains tomorrow. an isolated storms in the highest elevations.

the promotion to be good baseball. >> adam jones appears to have moved close to a long-term deal with the orioles. he has taken -- the deal is expected to run five or six years with an 80-$90 million vault -- value. his agent is in town. he knows it could take a little more patience to work out a deal. >> i am not in their offices. this is a pretty cool office to have. it is an exciting thing, a humbling thing, just the thought of it. it is not complete. it is a humbling feeling, i know it is exciting, but i would rather wait so i can have some good news for you.
