president for his support for renewable energy companies that later laid off workers. >> support is growing for speeding -- billboards to be placed on fire trucks. the city council held a hearing tuesday for two resolutions, one to allow the advertising and another to establish a committee to regulate the process. in all of the testimony, not one person was opposed. >> when i first heard about the bill i thought it was idiotic. why do we want to look like nascar? but after the shock wore off, this shows how far we have to go to think outside of the box to make things work in the city. >> the language of the measure describes sponsorship recruiting private companies to sponsor a truck. the city is trying a similar idea for city-owned buildings. despite all the recent crime, baltimore officials are touting

new data showing a lower crime rate. in 2011, baltimore recorded a lowest number of homicides in 30 years. the number also points to an 18% decrease in homicides since the 2009. and mayor stephanie rawlings blake said non-fatal shootings are down 16% from this time last year. baltimore county police trying to locate the shooter or shooter is responsible for a memorial day drive by that left a man in a critical condition. officers say the 24 -- 23-year victim was in parkville when a car pulled up next to him and the passenger reportedly started firing shots. a resident at the welcome inn said she woke up startled by the shots and a man screaming for his life. >> when the paramedics got here he said he did not want to die. he was screaming, and they were trying to calm wind down.

>> firefighters pulled a 65- year-old woman from the rubble of her home after an earthquake in northern italy tuesday. the woman was trapped in the debris of her kitchen and shouted to rescuers. a piece of furniture kept her from being crushed. it had been vacant since a strong earthquake earlier this month, but the woman had gone back to retrieve some of foreclosed just before the earthquake struck. she is now recovering at the hospital. scary moments for an elementary

school girl in utah. she was kicked off a school bus in the middle of an unfamiliar neighborhood. it started friday when the girl got off a school bus with her friend without a note from our mother. the driver called a mother and when she did not answer, she forced her to get off the bus. school officials say students who do not normally ride the bus connected on without a note but the driver should have taken her back to the school or a designated bus stop. kids from around the country and around the world will have to washington, d.c., for the national spelling bee, which includes 278 spellers from all 50 states and u.s. dependencies and even overseas. nine spares -- spellers are from maryland. the competition also features a 6-year-old from virginia. she is the youngest speller on record. the finals and semifinals will be televised thursday. still to come, we will tell you how you can get free doughnuts on friday. and a warning for women

cooler this time of year because of the elevation. the dew point still tell the story, in the low 70's to mid 60's in the lower eastern shore where the rain is still falling. dew point time batch is dropping in the metro area. it is an indication of how much moisture is an atmosphere at any time it gets around 60 degrees we feel the humidity. of to the west, the airdropping into the 50's some it is coming back to being comfortable range. the forecast for this afternoon, at 82, that is expected to be the high temperature. a couple of sprinkles it least through the evening and then we start to clear out through the late evening, especially after midnight, when the cold front finally passes through and the cold front will drop to the 50's and 60's after being in the 70's for overnight lows. the weather pattern showing rain to the east, clearing skies to the west. the cold front passes by at midnight. then wait for the next door to
