republican scott walker should know whether or not he's been replaced by milwaukee mayor democrat tom barrett. tracie potts joins us from washington with more on this. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. it is a race that's mirroring what we're seeing on the national scene, in this case the polls are tight. walker of late seems to have the edge and at a rally last night he made a final push to get out the vote to say this is an election about the truth and the fact that his opponent, the milwaukee mayor has been down in the dirt and gutter with the advertising, as he put it, this recall, after he stripped collective bargaining rights from public workers there and there were mass protests. meantime tom barrett in his final campaign event before this vote said that governor walker had divided the state and created what he called a 16 month civil war. this divided electorate in wisconsin really mirroring what we're seeing on the national

scene, there's been a flood of out of state money into wisconsin, $64 million and interestingly this is their second match-up, walker beat barrett two years ago. lynn? >> tracie potts for us in washington. thanks. former president bill clinton joined president obama on a fundraising swing in new york city last night. during his speech introducing the president, clinton seemed to make an effort to counter his comments that were flattering to romney. >> he's got the order right, president obama does. growth now, restraint later. the romney republican plan is austerity and more unemployment now and blow the lid off later just at the time when we're worried about high interest rates. >> the former president also told obama supporters a mitt romney presidency would be calamity for the nation and world.

queen elizabeth decided the diamond jubilee concert honoring her 60 years on the throne would go on as planned. some of the nation's biggest pop stars performed and the night concluded with a spectacular fireworks display. ♪ >> reporter: 10,000 people got to see an amazing concert outside of buckingham palace. ♪ >> reporter: there was performers across the queen's six decades on the throne. the royal family was there but one notable absence. prince philip, he was spending the night in the hospital. he was taken there earlier today suffering from a bladder infection. buckingham palace said it's not serious just a precautionary measure. he's turning 91 in a couple of

days and any health scare at this age has to be taken seriously. >> he's taken on well but ladies and gentlemen, if we shout loud enough he might hear it in hospital. >> reporter: after the concert the queen lit a beacon to mark her jubilee. she traveled to the cathedral by carriage for a special service. prince philip will be kept in the hospital for the next two or three days. now here's a look at some other stories making news "early today" in america. in a newly released video in indiana showed the terrifying moments that led to a school bus crash last month. the driver fell out of his seat after hitting a bump. and then lost control sending the bus on a wild ride before

crashing into a house. luckily no students were aboard and the driver's injuries weren't life threatening. he was however, cited for not wearing a seat belt. in florida the weather was heavenly. a halo formed around the sun. that was after clouds and ice crystals combined to create the ring. in hawaii the difference was night and day. this is called a moon bow or lunar rainbow. it comes from just the right combination of a full moon, wind and rain. i feel bill should explain this. light reflects off the surface of the moon and tracks through the prisms of water. i seem to have educated bill on something. that seems more up to his alley. for a check on the regional weather, i'll leave it to him. >> a moon bow? >> that's your google fact for the day. >> beautiful shot. the moon is bright out there this morning. that continued to be the case in areas of clear skies. we had a lot of rain out there

yesterday in new england, especially and the storms in the southeast and just look at the high temperature yesterday in boston. it was only 53 degrees. we had much of the month of march was warmer than it was yesterday in areas of new england and even snowed in new hampshire, the top of mount washington had snow yesterday. all the warm air has been in the middle of the country. record highs. salt lake city, utah was up to 100. 102 in phoenix. montana and denver that's where the summer time air is right now. pretty good thunderstorms rolling through montana yesterday. this morning as far as nasty weather goes much improved in new england. cool chilly morning but at least we're not getting drenched with rain. tennessee has rain. dying thunderstorms this morning. nashville is in the clear. most of the nasty storms have moved to the south and they are not as strong as they were a couple of hours ago. near savannah, tennessee showers and thunderstorms sliding your way and some of this will move down to areas of northern alabama. huntsville may get showers over the next two hours.

the forecast for today, some showers. the morning will be sunny from d.c. to philadelphia up to boston but then during the afternoon the clouds will fill in. we'll get another round of showers and wet weather. the southeast with all the warmth and humidity around a chance of thunderstorms during the afternoon at any time. that's a look at your national forecast. now here's a look at the weather outside your window. still warm in the desert southwest as you expect in philadelphia very cool weather for you. typically we should be in 80 degrees. today only 69. chance of afternoon showers and storms. beautiful day for chicago at 70. looks like the chilly air in many areas of the east will stick around for another two days. coming up, rocky flying for airline stocks. disney takes a stand with child viewers and the reason why you're finding it harder to get an empty seat on the way to work. your early morning business headlines are straight ahead.

good morning and welcome back to "early today." i'm lynn berry and here are some of your top headlines this morning. the second most prominent figure in al qaeda, abu yahya al libi may have been killed in a u.s. drone strike in northwest pakistan. if confirmed it would be the biggest blow to al qaeda since u.s. special forces killed osama bin laden in may 2011. in germany an adult film actor has been arrested for allegedly mailing body parts to top political parties in his home country of canada. he was taken into custody in an internet cafe in berlin while reading media coverage about himself. in pennsylvania today the sexual abuse trial of jerry

sandusky begins with jury selection. he's accused of abusing ten boys over a 15 year period. in iceland a homecoming to a house near a volcano that was buried 39 years ago under ash and rock during an eruption. the woman who owned the house has been finally allowed to return. and you have a chance to see the planet venus crossing in front of the sun which we will not see again from earth for more than 100 years. just a reminder for you, you do need to use solar glasses or telescopes with special filters. do not look directly at the sun. here's an early look at how wall street will kick off. the dow opens at 12,101 after falling 17 points yesterday. the s&p inched up a fraction, the nasdaq added 12. taking a look at overseas trading, in tokyo the nikkei rose 86 points while in hong kong the hang seng was up 73.

stocks finished mixed as fearful selling tapered off monday. investors anxious about the euro zone debt crisis looked ahead to today's emergency meeting of a group of seven global powers holding talks. on the street home builders were among the day's biggest losers. pulte lost 6%. elsewhere chesapeake energy rose 6% after announcing it will replace more than half of its board of directors. delta airlines had its steepest drop in three years after missing a may revenue target. this morning australia qantas airways went to all time low. after a forecasting possible 91% drop in yearly earnings. a major upset apple is planning to oust google mass as a preloaded app on the iphone and ipad. in favor of a new apple version. starbucks dipped in late trade after announcing a purchase of

good morning. if you're just waking up this is "early today." in sports the stanley cup finals the los angeles kings find themselves on the brink of their

very first nhl title. here's nbc fred roggin with an early look at all your sports headlines. >> good morning. they were the eighth seed in the west. they knocked off the top three teams in the conference. now the los angeles kings are one away of completing an improbable win. game three in los angeles. in the second period, king was stopped on the first shot. martinez had a poke in the rebound, getting in done once again and kings are up 1-0. skilled players took over. brown found a streak, the one timer went past. eighth in the playoffs, l.a. up 2-0 after two. the only thing the kings haven't been able to get going is their power play. check that off the list. jeff carter scored a man advantage and moments later justin williams followed that up with another power play goal. quick flawless at the oernd. third shot out of the playoffs.
