9:02 am
at -- i'm so embarrassed i said that. i'm sorry. >> no, it's fine. it's certainly fine. >> meantime let's now, if we can take a deep breath, i know very serious news to start off with this morning. >> i do, i do. good morning once again, everyone. this morning a big win tuesday for wisconsin's republican governor scott walker, who became the first governor in u.s. history to survive a recall election. the win came after a hard-fought challenge to walker's budget cutting, which included curbs on collective bargaining rights for most public employees. walker says the win shows that voters want leaders to make tough decisions. jury selection is likely to wrap up today in former penn state assistant football coach jerry sandusky's child sex abuse trial. opening statements are set to begin next monday. sandusky is accused of abusing ten boys over a 15-year period. senate republicans on tuesday blocked a democratic bill calling for equal pay for women in the workplace. republicans said the bill would put too much of a burden on small businesses.
9:03 am
president obama called the vote disappointing. a rare show in the sky tuesday as venus passed in front of the sun in silhouette. it was an event that won't happen again for 105 years. and now a heartwarming story out of columbus, ohio, that proves coming in last can still make somebody a winner. for one runner, it was a show of sportsmanship extending far beyond a single track meet. it was a great day for megan, even though she came in dead last in her final race of the day. she helped a competitor who had fallen on the last lap of the race. >> it was really emotional, and people came up to news tears just really moved by what megan had done. >> her day began when she won the ohio state title for the 1600 meter race. the first girl from west liberty salem high school to win a state track title in more than 20 years. >> just to be able to achieve something that you've worked all your life for. that's a really good feeling and
9:04 am
you can't probably put it into words. >> reporter: but what most people will remember won't be that win but meghan's final race of the day. after winning the 1600 meters, she ran in the 3200 meter race just under two miles, when she noticed fellow runner arden had fallen on the last lap. >> i was coming around the turn, and it was probably about 100 meters left, and she was probably about 50 meters in front of me, maybe a little bit more, a little bit less, and i saw her fall. >> reporter: vogel then guided mcmath, carrying her across the finish line ahead of vogel herself. >> i just kind of didn't think twice about it. i knew i was just going to go help and help her out. you deserve to finish no matter who you are. i was going to make that happen for her no matter what. i knew she would do the same for me. i was going to do that for arden. >> what a sweet girl. meghan vogel will be a senior next year. arden mcmath will be a junior so they may end up competing against each other again.

>> dr. ashton healthwise, are there health concerns of things we have to start watching that we didn't before 40? >> the key is you should really start those things even earlier. it's not that anything magical happens today. rather than a big celebration. but as padma was saying, yes, you have to pay the piper a little more after 40. that doesn't mean you can't look better, be healthier, be more fit. it just means you put in more time and more effort to do so. >> and what about illnesses? i know when i had my first mammogram, that was a big experience. when i turned 40. what other things should we be on the lookout for? >> do things in the decade of the 40s are heart disease, skin health, and oral health, believe it or not. and of course mental health, which you know, we'll hit on a little bit. but i mean that's just because statistically, this is the age in which, yes, those things start to hit women in their 40s. but again it's not a foregone conclusion. it just means you need to be a little more pro-active. so screening for cancers, yes, important. but taking care of your skin, you should get a skin check every year when you're 40 but
