a free agent, a winner of the stanley cup with the pittsburgh penguins. remember, he was on the receiving end of that hit by steve bernier in that first period. really kind of changed the tide and momentum in this hockey game. but scuderi's stability on the back end. and colin fraser won a stanley cup with the chicago blackhawks. did not play a game in a stanley cup final, but a fourth line role player, who scored the first goal of this final in game one in newark. >> mike: what a night of celebration this will be. in the city of angels. dan aykroyd in the movie "dragnet" played sergeant for the city of los angeles, sure the city isn't perfect. we need a better life for all our citizens, cleaner streets, better schools and a good hockey team. haven't checked the schools or the streets, but this hockey team was great.

locals tell us that the building was a former grocery store. there was the heat of the day, degrees, and they say the old timber beams inside were feeling the flames. dense smoke made it hard to see our breed in fells point monday afternoon. >> it has calmed down -- mark -- made it hard to see our breed in fells point. -- made a hard to see or breathe. longtime residents tell us they don't recall ever experiencing a fire so intense. >> i have never seen anything quite this force behind it. the firefighters look like they -- down to white smoke and then all of a sudden it came rolling back with the huge engines. >> around 130 firefighters were

on the scene. >> i could see it must be a big fire, and it does not look like it has diminished any. >> these firemen are really working on a hot day like today. >> firefighter successfully raised to contain the flames. officials say they were forced to focus on every onside angle they could attack. >> it appears there are ordinary combustible materials inside the warehouse. >> the fire chief and the mayor circled the building at the smoke lingers. >> two firefighters suffered minor injuries today. we are told that tomorrow they will get down to the business of determining what sparked the blaze. they are asking you to avoid this area tomorrow because

distributor, is a trickle-down effect and the consumer awesomely pays the price for it. >> a final vote rubberstamp and the measure will take place next week. that tax is expected to take effect in july 2013 to correct the u.s. coast guard is investigating the crash of unable grown aircraft on the eastern shore. they have secured a safety zone around that crash site. this is what is left of the throne after it crashed. officials say the aircraft was scheduled for routine maintenance flight to the patuxent naval air station. there are no reports of any injuries. the faa is investigating a small plane crashed near the maryland- delaware border. happened just before 1:00 this afternoon. officials say the single-engine plane overturned near del mar before coming to a stop. we are told the pilot was able to free himself and was not injured. no one else was on board the plane. we are following a developing

story from south baltimore. four people reported hurt after an mta bus accident just after 8:00 this evening in cherry hill. we are told that a child riding a bike came out of a nearby alley and hit the bus. the mta tells us to talk was not hurt. we are told for people on the bus were injured. no word yet on the severity of their injuries. >> late breaking details involving a triple shooting. two of the victims are girls. investigators say the juvenile and adult male were found shot just before 6:00 tonight near annapolis road on russell street. we are told that all the victims suffered non life-threatening injuries. police at not released a motive. encouraging news about baltimore's murder rate. fbi statistics show that the 2011 baltimore murder rate was 31.3 per 100,000 residents, taking the city out of the top five in the country. it drops baltimore to #six.

a 12% drop, and the first time there have been fewer than 200 homicides in one year inner city since 1970. >> state corrections officials say conrad bain was working on a road crew in prince george's county when he took off. he was last seen wearing of fluorescent road best over a white t-shirt and blue jeans. court records show he has manslaughter and handgun convictions. baltimore county police said they are investigating a homicide after a woman's body was found. and by stigler made a gruesome discovery while writing for wooded area tomorrow morning about 10:30. if you have any information about this crime, you are urged to call crime stoppers.

>> she has been the subject of more than 111 news i-team report. tonight a jury deciding the fate of maryland legislator tiffany alston, accused of using state funds to play if we do to pay for an employee in her law firm. she has been indicted on charges of theft and misconduct. we have uncovered her record which shows her driving privileges have been suspended after she was caught driving with suspended tax. she is accused of using her campaign funds to finance her wedding. disturbing details emerged during the first of testimony in the trial of former penn state of -- assistant coach jerry sandusky. the first student to testify, now 28 years old, described in graphic detail how the coach tried to buy his silence with lavish meal. sandusky faces 52 counts of child sex abuse.

defense attorneys said the client admits to showering with young boys butted minutes it -- but says it was part of the football culture, not a crime. >> in less than 24 hours, baltimore is due for a presidential visit. president obama is scheduled to deliver remarks at the hyatt regency at the inner harbor, part of a fund-raising reception for his campaign. the event will begin around 1:15. mr. obama plans to participate in other campaign events while in baltimore, including a private fund-raiser. >> it has been hauled away from home for a baltimore basketball player for three decades now, producing a whole bunch of heroes. kate amara shows us the results. >> the dome has been restored.

a much-needed facelift for the iconic basketball court in east baltimore. things have changed since this baltimore legend played here. upgrades include bank, new hooves, and backboards. >> making sure the youth have a great asset in this facility as well as being introduced to the gain the right way. that is huge. >> the restoration is thanks to a partnership between under armour and the nba. the idea here is to give young athletes access to the game they love, while encouraging healthy, active life styles. >> we need more models like this of the city. this is a legendary court. i remember growing up in hearing about all of the legends of basketball who played here. >> they hope this court will help prepare a new generation of kids for success in life and

september marks 20 years since pam was carjacked while taking her daughter sirena to her first day of preschool. brutally beat and yanked from a car, she became entangled in the seat belt as she tried to rescue her daughter. robbie solomon and bernard miller through the seat holding it sirena from the car and she survived, but for 2 miles they dragged pam to her death. a brilliant chemist, mother, and why, they left her mutilated body on the side of the road. >> i try not to think about it. >> in his first interview with baltimore media, the widower is talking about the day 20 years ago that changed everything. back in 1992, reporters who

covered this case gave steve his privacy. he needed it. >> the remember that day very well? >> yes, i do. the savage in this -- savageness, that is very difficult to overcome or even come to terms with. >> what ultimately help convict the killers was this video shot by steve himself and just released to the public. it shows the carjackers only feet away from pam and serena. >> the minutes he tries to avoid the area where this played out. even as a reporter who covered the story 20 years ago, every time i see this road, i think of pam. >> is where she was found. >> it was terrible. they just left her there.

rather as a smart, determined woman who was a mother until the last moment of her life. >> rodney solomon was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. bernard miller, who was 16 at the time, also received life. both men are prison in cumberland, maryland. >> now, your forecast with meteorologist john collins. >> we got up to around 90 for the high and started picking up clouds today, not quite as warm as yesterday because the clouds filtered the sunshine. we have seen a few areas of sprinkle showing up on the radar late this afternoon. only trace amounts of rain so far. there is rain coming up from the south which will eventually catch up with us. let's look at the numbers for today. near 94 the high, 89 for the

high at the airport. 82 is a typical high for this time of year. the record was 99, so we are nowhere close to that. temperatures have now fallen back. there is still orange there are around the city where it is 82 downtown. down along the river readings are in the 70's. a little warmer right on the river itself, 71 at ocean city. you can see a band of moister coming up from the south on the satellite radar combination. the strongest arms are back in mississippi and alabama and louisiana at this stage of the game. the storm started out this afternoon in missouri. of very strong squall line

running out ahead of that storm system. a cold front comes through by early wednesday. between now and then, all this moisture comes our way. we are scheduled to get some pretty good rain. the rest of the showers overnight, and a couple of periods of heavy rain in the forecast for tomorrow. how much can we expect? during the day, perhaps an inch to an inch and a half in some cases, or close to that. some of you will get a good soaking out of this. mostly cloudy, showers and thundershowers over night for daybreak. 67-73 the lowe's. tomorrow's high is not as warm as today, 79-89 -- 79-83 for the highs. the futurecast, once the front

goes through, we'll probably still see some clouds. a little disturbance offshore and we might get some drizzle with that before things finally start to dry up for the weekend. the heaviest rains tomorrow, about 80% chance with a high of 81. a lesser chance of rain on wednesday and thursday, but a lot of cloud, especially on thursday. then drier weather as we go into the weekend. >> derrick mason says goodbye on his terms with a clear idea of how he once ravens fans to remember him. that is next in sports.

from the nfl. john harbaugh and ozzie newsome joined him. he leaves the ravens and as the all-time leader in both catches and receiving yards. he was released before the start of last season but he said he thought a lot about how much he missed baltimore and how much he loved playing for the ravens. he brought an attitude and aggressiveness to the offense. derrick mason live up to the slogan, play like a raven. >> how does want to be remembered as a guy who went out there and did what he was supposed to do on the football field, regardless of what the situation was. the coach and i butted heads a few times.

i caught the tail end of it, but it was fun. >> fund for a lot of people when derrick mason was playing. the 20-day window on roberts minor-league rehab closed last night. the 34-year-old second baseman has not played for the orioles since suffering a concussion in may of last season. a big lift as the leadoff man if he can stay healthy. injuries limited him to only 98 games since the start of the 2010 season. you have to go back to world war ii to find a team with a lead in the stanley cup finals that loss this season. the l.a. kings onto tonight but the new jersey devils came back and came up short. game 6. you cannot have a championship
