good morning. i'm meteorologist crystal egger with the weather channel and your forecast. we'll start today looking good across the eastern half of the country, especially here in the northeast where we've had bouts of rain for so many days, and it's finally gone. around the florida area and especially into southern georgia, could see a few showers. this is going to be the big story today, a wide swath of severe weather anticipated from kansas all the way into the western lakes, minneapolis, omaha. you could see some damaging wind gusts, large hail, even isolated tornadoes in the forecast. so a lot of heat building ahead of that storm. and, as that storm moves in, it's going to trigger the severe in this area. look at phoenix, 105 today, 75 in new york city, 82 in washington, d.c. on friday, there's still going to be a chance for a few severe storms, not as widespread, but we'll be watching it closely. back into the high plains there, still dry getting into the weekend in the northeast,

temperatures are going to slowly warm up as well. the west looking good, west of the rockies, we need some moisture desperately. we don't see any in the forecast anytime soon, 87 the forecast high in denver. on saturday, still dry in the east, high plains is where we have a threat of showers and thunderstorms, 80 in minneapolis, it's going to be one of those days where the clouds build in the afternoon and may have to go inside because of a thunderstorm in the area. around the lakes into chicago, you're still dry until sunday night. then a chance of showers as the system continues to sweep its way closer to the ohio valley. looking good for the start of the week in the northeast, and on tuesday pretty quiet with the exception of the northern states, still unsettled here around the western lakes, warming into the mid-80s around atlanta. remember, you can "wake up with al" and stephanie abrams weekday mornings at 6:00 a.m. on the weather channel.
