>> the first day of summer will sizzle. live team coverage tonight of just how high the temperature will rise and help local officials are preparing for some searing heat. buss, owner liability. the local impact of a controversial pitbull rule that is being investigated. buyer and seller beware. critics are conducting robberies by online appointment. we'll get to all those stories in just a minute, but breaking news tonight at of howard county. detectives say the teenager has been shot in ellicott city. police got the call around 7:00 this evening in the 11,400 block of frederick road. details are sketchy but police say they found the teenager in a field with a gunshot wound. he was transported to shock trauma. there is no word on the details surrounding the shooting.

a recent craigslist transaction turned into an armed robbery that led to gunfire. it is the most recent in a string of online deals designed to more victims into dangerous situations. kerry cavanaugh joins us downtown with the latest pre >> please just assigned a special team of detectives to address a rash of recent craigslist robberies. the dow had laid to rest last month when they arrested one man for four incidents but they are happening again, most recently in bolten hill. the promise of a good deal on car lord a couple to boldin hill on monday night. according to police, vacate -- they found the adam craigslist and came prepared to pay cash. >> once they got to the location, to black male suspects announced a robbery. they displayed a handgun. that point, a conversation between one of the victims and the suspect ensued, and the

second victim pulled out a handgun. denise watched the whole deal disintegrate from her front porch. she set instead of running away, the victim fought back. correct all the sudden, this one step back and pulled out a gun and started shooting. this woman chased the would-be robbers down the street, firing a half-dozen shops. >> she was 6 feet away from them and she aimed directly at them. >> police arrested for two weapons to are just on the grounds that she overstepped her right to defend herself. meanwhile, the suspects got away and detectives are worried they will strike again. another buyer was targeted around the corner on saturday night. >> i love this neighborhood. i really think it is a great neighborhood. >> police state that craigslist and other on-line places are

safe if you follow a few rules, like meeting in a public place for transactions and making it clear that you intend to pay by cashier's check instead of cash. kerry cavanaugh, wbal-tv 11 news. >> baltimore county police are investigating a pair of home invasions. investigators said they took place three days apart. the first happens sunday, june 10, in cockeysville, and the other on wednesday, june 13 in essex. a man entered an unlocked rear sliding glass door armed with a baseball bat alive after 10:00 at night. investigators say the suspect took money, medication, and electronics from a female homeowner. three days later, a female suspect knocked on the door around 10:30 at night. police say the female and the men forced their way inside and the third person jumped in through a rear sliding glass door. the trio bought with cash and a

handgun in this case. police are asking if you have any information to give them a call. homicide detectives are investigating a deadly shooting in southwest baltimore. police said they found a man shot in the torso around 6:15 tonight on west pratt street. paramedics rushed the victim to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead. no word on a suspect or possible motive. police in annapolis are investigating the rape of a 13- year-old girl. 34-year-old alexander laura is the suspect. he is facing rape and assault charges following an incident over the weekend of a teenager was at his home. he is currently being held on $2 million bail. the anne arundel county fire marshal's office is investigating yet another bomb explosion that happened around 6:15 last night in pasadena. the bombs are being made using a

state mental hospital to determine if he is mentally competent to stand trial. 21-year-old alexander kinyua was indicted on charges of first- degree murder. he is charged with killing a family friend and eating part of his heart and brain. a panel of state lawmakers are reviewing a ruling by maryland's highest court that says pitbull dar inherently dangerous. the parents of a towson boy who was seriously injured in a pit bull attack say dogs should not be put before him and welfare. their son dominic was mauled by pitbull back in 2007. his injuries prompted a legal case that led to the ruling. some voiced concerns about the insurance ramifications. >> maryland is one of the states where if you are teasing the dog
