degrees this afternoon. that is hundreds of miles away, and behind a cold front that still has to move through here. we are still dealing with 100 degrees in downtown baltimore, 96 at the airport. the heat advisory continues on the eastern shore and in southern pennsylvania. the cooler, drier air to the north and west of us is moving in. we will talk about that in the forecast, coming up at a few minutes. >> bge is giving customers a heads up on how it will deal with these extremely high temperatures. >> the pool here at druid hill park is a welcome sight, and is pretty empty. there were so many people this afternoon we tried to jump in this poll, but we had to tell them the bad news that the pools will not be open until saturday. in the meantime, many of us will continue to use our air

catherine said she keeps comfortable in the pool with her grandparents. show us how you beat the heat. >> a major decision tonight concerning funding for baltimore city recreation centers. council members gave preliminary approval to mayor stephanie rawlings-blake's budget proposal. kim dacey is live at city hall with the late breaking details. >> it is back to the mayor's original budget for the city council. less than an hour ago they voted down an amendment proposed on monday night. ambassadors from the safe and sound campaign said they are disappointed. there were outside city hall all day trying to get council members to vote for the amendment which would have included funds to say things like youth initiatives like recreation centers. councilman bill henry is one of those who voted in favor of the amendment corrects well, i am disappointed because i thought

destination for tourists and residents alike, right in the middle of the national harbour in prince george's county. it would have four thousand slot machines and 2000 -- 250 table games and create more than 50,000 jobs. last friday, mgm resorts international and developer peterson company signed a letter of intent with the state to build a casino, as long as the sixth site was approved, table games were legalized, and the state dropped its unusually high tax rate from 67% to around 52%. governor martin o'malley praised the idea, saying he would support a special session in july to get the bill on the november ballot. wednesday night, that plan came up snake eyes as a workgroup could not agree, not only on the site but also dropping the tax rate as well. the group did agree on table games. it would seem that a special session is all but off at this

point, meaning the issue will have to be argued during the next regular session in january and would then be on the 2014 ballot if passed. mgm resort ceo told us "mgm resources committed to maryland and our interest in national harbour is unabated." the peterson companies founder echoed the statement saying they appreciate the efforts of the governors work group to evaluate this historic opportunity to create thousands of jobs and hundreds of millions in new tax revenue. one business is pleased with the outcome. it has claimed all along there are already too many casinos in the state. the managing partner said he expansion of gaming facilities in maryland before the five designated sites are open and performing is premature and not

in the best interest of the state. i have just been handed a statement from governor o'malley concerning this issue. he seems to be taking a jab at the casino. finding common ground will be difficult but house leadership has become invested in the notion that the anne arundel side of the casino should enjoy a run for as long as possible. it seems like a stay tuned issue from the governor. lowell melser, wbal-tv 11 news. >> in other news tonight, the latest target in a massive insider-trading investigation is eddie murray. the report stipe besides a
