sandusky has been convicted -- convicted of 45 counts. minutes after it was handed down, sandusky leaving the courtroom. we want to go to pennsylvania for the latest. it is the breaking news we have been falling. -- following. the 68 year-old was accused of misusing 10 boys over 15 years and he is expected to spend the rest of his life in prison. it took chirrs two days to deliver a verdict, guilty of 4548 counts. it was a case that certainly affected and state profoundly. there will be many effects to the story and people are watching it to see how it reflects the protocol of abuse. he has been convicted 45 of 48

counts in child molestation charges. brian moore joins us now from pennsylvania with the latest. >> jerry sandusky walked into this courthouse with his family. he walked out a convicted child predator. he was in handcuffs, beginning a very long prison sentence. the pennsylvania attorney general said that a serial child predator has been held accountable for his crimes. the defense attorney told the gathered crowd, at times searing, -- cheering, that he would spend the rest of his life behind bars. that was not much of a surprise. >> the jury obviously believed the witnesses.

it is not a surprise. it was the expected outcome because of the overwhelming evidence. >> here is a look outside the courthouse, and alphonse, pennsylvania. citizens outnumbering the number of media. a throng of media that came here for this verdict after all of these months. many years of investigation. four the -- jerry sandusky, now a convicted child molester. he could face a minimum of 60 years and a maximum of 442 years. his attorney says he expects jerry sandusky to spend the rest of his life behind bars. at the end of the trial, the revelation that jerry sandusky's adopted son was ready to testify

against him to say he had been abused. that leaves open the question of if there will be more charges against jerry sandusky. right now this case is finished. >> here at home, nobody was watching more closely than the baltimore chop abuse center. -- baltimore child abuse center. adqam joins us now. your reaction. >> it is good to see that justice is served. victims can come forward years later and be believed. people will be behind them and they can get closer to -- closer to what has happened. it is an example of how our system works. we can provide justice. >> what made the difference in this case? it took them two days to deliberate 48 counts. what do you think made the

difference? >> the consistent pattern of behavior and the evidence. it was a good trial strategy to show there was a pattern that sandusky did to lure these children in and take advantage of the situation. that was more evidence the defense could counter. >> what impact does this have? on the awareness, reporting of abuse, what impact will it have from your perspective? >> hopefully children come forward. survivors come forward and they do not live in silence any more. they do not have to live under the notion that sandusky told his victims. they will realize they can get justice and put people who abused them behind bars. >> we spoke earlier tonight and you said you would not be surprised, even given -- you

were poised to not be surprised if he was acquitted. >> we have seen enough of these cases on tv and i have seen as a prosecutor you never know what happens with 12 jurors. any thinking goes on. they have their own view of the evidence and they see and hear much less than you and i do. they do not watch the analysis. they have not been following this story. when they get inside the deliberation room, they can go in a variety of directions. in this case, pa. put together a solid case. >> recalling that interview when you hear his voice, and it is still shocking to hear it. your thoughts? given the conviction. >> sandusky was always in denial. he was protecting himself to keep him from going on there,

and that he would never admit to this and things he did nothing wrong at all. this is one of the worst parts about it. >> a unique perspective, an advocate and former prosecutor. thank you for coming in. and thank you for joining us. we will continue to update you on the latest from pennsylvania. closer to home, abortion clinics will be held to higher standards under new regulations announced by the health department. sheldon is in the newsroom with more. >> under this new law, clinics that perform surgical abortions will be required to obtain a license. supporters say it is a step in the right direction to protect women. >> it affected me, all of our nieces and nephews, her cousin, her grandmother, we're glad nobody -- we didn't have anybody

die in our family for a long time. >> she did not even know her daughter was pregnant until there was an emergency. she went behind her mother's back to get an abortion and the dose of anesthesia was too strong. >> it was not safe. she was dead on arrival, they said. this should have never have happened. >> another woman's life was endangered when she got an abortion at an unlicensed clinic. state senator nancy jacobs introduced a bill that would crack down on them that perform surgical abortions. >> they protect women and they will also make abortion clinics in maryland deregulated. >> under the new regulations, any clinic that performs surgical abortions will have to get a license to do so. those clinics must meet requirements related to

anesthesia and emergency services. officials will perform inspections and abortions will have to be performed by a licensed physician. >> hopefully making abortion more rare. ideally, that is the goal of pro-choice and pro-life people. hopefully that will happen because of this legislation. >> it makes me feel great. sometimes out of tragedy comes in america. >> clinics to violate any of the violations may face suspension. the new law will going to affect next month. >> and a rondo county police are looking for the gunmen who tried to rob an elderly man. the incident happened around 5:00 this morning in the parking lot of day lowe's. he was in his car when the

suspects demanded money. the elder the man resistant and open his door, hitting the suspect. the robber fired a shot that struck the vehicle. no one was hurt and police prefer a different strategy. >> we are advising folks to never confront an armed adversary. give up your proper gear. contact police. -- give up your property. contact police. >> anyone with information is asked to contact police. a man impersonating a police officer is caught after pulling over an actual police officer. around 4:00 wednesday, anthony giovanni tried to perform a traffic stop on a police officer. the suspect told the officers he was speeding claiming he was a military kopp. he was arrested and charged. here is a look at the car the suspect was driving.

heatwave. it is looking pretty good. within the next few minutes down at ocean city. hear the rain has already tapered off. things are drying out nicely to the west of us. less humid air is coming in. how much rain? sunspots' got more than others. we did not get much at all around here. there were some parts of baltimore county. scattered showers in the mountains and flooding rains. just off ocean county, severe flooding that way. many storms down to ocean city, otherwise some parts misdoubt almost altogether. it was scattered but when you got underneath, they were pretty rough because we have a lot of hot air in place and a cold front slamming into it.

afternoon temperatures hitting 100 degrees for the third straight day but that should do it. the storms are developing and if you look west, the cooler air will be coming our way. still cloudy with a shower lingering on the coast saturday morning but west of the day, high-pressure is settling in for the start of the weekend. partly cloudy and if you have some rain there may be some fog developing. 60's in the suburbs. there goes the front past baltimore. it will take the storms away. the weekend should be nice. to the south of us, national hurricane center is keeping an eye on this development. bookish hours trying to get organized into an area of low pressure. they are watching it closely. these are the computer models. they are all over the place.

it is going to drift into the gulf of mexico and perhaps become the next main storm on the list. deborah is here tonight and maybe her storm forms over the weekend. around here, high pressure will settles and -- settles in. waves about a foot. close to 80 degrees. it will be a gorgeous mountain day tomorrow. sunny and low humidity. we mentioned a thunderstorm possibility but it is mainly late afternoon and evening so the bulk of the weekend will be beautiful. humidity levels drop. it will be warm and sunny, how summer is supposed to be. and you're going to the coast, where it is pouring rain right now, showers may linger and then it will clear up tomorrow. saturday looks nice, sunday, to because the storms to not comment until after sunset.
