good afternoon, everyone. our big story at noon. a supreme court strikes down key parts of arizona's controversial immigration law. the 5-3 ruling finals the government does have the power to block local law enforcement from detaining anyone believed to be in the country illegally. karen has the latest from washington. >> arizona law sb1070 seems supreme court bound even before jan brew we're signed it. many people disagree. eye firmly believe it represents what is best for arizona. >> the sweeping law aimed at curbing illegal immigration in the state sparked protests, boycotts and demonstrations nation in-wide. opponents say the the law

amounted to racial profiling requiring local law enforcement to check status if there is reasonable suspicion a person could be here illegally. president obama criticized arizona's actions calling instead for a comprehensive national plan. >> i think it is a mistake when we start having local law enforcement officials take power to stop people on the suspicion they may be undocumented workers. >> a lower court kept the law from taking full effect and on april 25th, 2012, debate arrived at the supreme court. the protest moved east, too. arguing for the obama administration, immigration issues are the federal government's domain. for the state of arizona, they argued the federal government has not controlled the problem of illegal immigration. states should have the ability to enforce their own laws. other states have been

neighbor called hen they saw smoke billing from the house. no word on what caused the fire but we do know it started in a bedroom and spread to an adjacent hallway. >> the point gone has confirmed a maryland marine was killed in combat in afghanistan in afghanistan over the weekend. 21-year-old eugene mills was assigned in the helmand province. mills is the sixth maryland soldier killed this year while serving overseas.

his father says mills decided to join the military after seeing the world trade center attacks. meanwhile, the army private charged in the biggest leaks of the secrets in u.s. history is pressing prosecutors for evidence he hopes will bolster his defense. at a hearing later today. attorneys for private 1st class manning will ask the government to provide a report ac session the damage done by alleged leak of classified documents. they will also ask the military judge to postpone the september trial date to allow both sides time to obtain and study the documents. in other news this afternoon, a new poll shows the majority of marylanders approve of expanding gambling in the state and they want maryland ledge legislatures to compromise on the issue. a recent opinion poll shows they want to improve slots now. most want to vote on the issue in november. the debate to expand gambling in maryland and the future of the new casino remains uncertain in the wake of a select panel's recent inability to reach consensus.

involving sandusky and a young boy reported by former graduate assist and. kelly's office is reviewing e mails showing that graham spanier agreed that it would be "humane" to sandusky not to report the mcquery allegation to local authorities. they all deny any wrongdoing. if those empower at penn state had taken action in the early 2000s, then my client would not have been molested in 2007 and 2008. >> legal experts say with endowment of $1.8 billion, penn state has deep pockets that will make it a prime target for civil suits filed by sandusky's victims. >> based on other judgments in these cases in pennsylvania, we could be talking about tens of millions of dollars at least. on a statement, penn state says it plans to set up a program to privately, expeditiously, fairly address the victim's concerns, and

covering the nation today, firefighters are battling eight wildfires be a about to get some help from the military today. colorado's governor says two c-130 military transport plans from colorado springs will assist in fighting the fires. colorado is dealing with its word wildfire season in a decade. the fire has forced tourists to leave hotels and campgrounds at the base of pike's peek to stay away from harm. >> well, it is fire in colorado, florida is preparing for the latest tropical storm debby. so far, tornadoes spawned by the tropical storm is beal blakeed for at least wound's. deb b's path has been difficult to predict. the slow-moving storm appears to have its eye on florida. it might strength noon a hurricane. we'll have more on tropical

>> now your 11 insta-weather forecast with meteorologist eva marie. now looks look we should see energy the next couple of days did as temperature are dropping down so the air-conditioner won't have work so hard the next cowl of days. until that happens though. we have a cold front moving through that is kicking off showers and thunderstorms now. we look at the current hd doppler. we san can see the storm starts to push east of ocean city. this is the loop the past three hours. showers still moving around the baltimore metro area. the southern county, more of the activity closer to the coast. some stronger storms moving toward eastern delaware right now. so these are heading offshore but still going to be activity that builds on the back side of this. we cannot calm things down until the front finally clears through. we'll talk about when that is going be happening in a little bit. until that happens, we have severe threat across the mid at lan ting. the spc has us in a slight risk. the yellow shading you see from new england down to north carolina. we are just on the edge of

that. baltimore, down toward ocean ty. that is where the slight risk is through the afternoon and the evening hours. even including dc. ty think most of the activity should be east of i-90. in the includes the threat for isolated storms to be strong and in includes damaging wins and maybe even large hail. we'll have to keep an eye on that. unfortunately, we have not had touch going on across the area. temperature-wise, though, we have enough instability to allow the storms to get strong. it is already 84 in cambridge. 86 in salisbury. a little bit cooler now. 77 and actually closer to 80 early on. we have a first wave of the front move through. the temperatures drop down. now down to 82 at the continuer harbor. 70 degrees. 64 in oakland. the dewpoints are dropping down as well toll the 50s now out to the west down to the low 60s as you get the mets tro area. still in the upper 60s to lower 7os for the lower eastern shores. it feels a lot more humid as you head east of the bay. kind of what we would expect closer to the water.

it is always much more humid. the wins are starting to pick up as well. 9 miles per hour around baltimore. anywhere from 10 to 20 miles per hour as we head into the west. that is what the second cold front moving through. a couple of showers still possible this evening. then clearing and colder tonight. we drop down to the 50s across baltimore. a little bit colder to the suburbs where it could be the low to mid 50s. current weather pattern showing the first front that came through. the second one is on the way behind the high pressure builds in. we cool down,dry out to the next couple of days. fort fatally, the high pressure system keeping debby well toll the south. here you can see. off the west coast of florida, likely to sit in place. models having a hard time figuring out where debby is going to go most likely impacting florida. they can see tremendous amount of rain top the next couple of days. as we go into ourself vein-day forecast. we are rain free at least through thursday. 95 though. that is what we warm back up to by friday. >> in today's "medical alert"
