domestic violence or arrests turned violent. the suspect is in critical condition after a run and with three baltimore county police officers. >> investigators say that police had no choice but to get physical when he arm -- resisted arrest. >> we have the very latest. >> investigators say this is a very simple case. they went after a man who allegedly beat his girlfriend. but the girlfriend disputes that. nichols is in critical condition after an encounter with baltimore county police. just how the confrontation played out is unclear. she says police came to her apartment on sunday after a neighbor called 911. police say she told them that nichols had punched her. she tells us she had just

renewed a peace order against them. >> all they have to throw in my face is a protective order. i do not care about that. >> investigators say the 19- year-old took off before they could arrest them. police returned early tuesday morning to serve the warrant. they found him hiding inside a closet. >> we saw him using -- reaching for something. it did not -- it does not require them to wait until someone produces a gun. one officer attempted to strike him on the hand. because they were struggling, he was struck on the head. >> he was not in the closets. he was asleep. >> she says police woke him out of a dead sleep. >> they had to beat him up.

now this boy is over their dying. all they can say is there is a protective order. >> electronic court records say that she filed assault charges against her boyfriend. regardless, she led him into their home last night. he remains unconscious with a grave prognosis. >> a confrontation with the baltimore county police officers at the heart of a death investigation of a teenager. the mother of the teenager joined a crowd of about 100 residents and led a meeting to talk about the fateful night. >> kiss was a beggarly schedule and a predecessor -- this was a regularly scheduled association meeting.

christopher brown's mother walked into the neighborhood associated meeting with friends and family members. >> i am appreciative to all the support. it means the world to know that my son's life will not go in vain. >> cameras were not allowed inside the meeting. >> id should not be that this officer has had as much time as he has had. we are on day number 12, no answers. >> you still have an officer walking the streets free. you do not know what frame of mind he is in. >> the officer told investigators that he chased brown and others after during a crash at his door. he found brown in some bushes several blocks away. the teenager died from asphyxiation. the manner was a homicide. brown's mother wept in the

meeting as neighbors said a prayer for her and her family. >> he needs to be arrested. he did a crime. i do not know how many ways we can put this. >> police spokesperson said investigators are making progress. >> progress has been made. >> we cannot go into specifics. the case is still under investigation. our detectives have been talking to people and some of the facts are becoming clearer. >> the baltimore county police chief was invited, but did not attend the meeting. that is because he has spoken directly to brown's family. they're waiting for the investigation to play out. >> prosecutors do not want one of the brothers accused of assaulting an african american teenager during a neighborhood

>> hospital officials say they sympathize with the family, but appropriate medical care was provided and the standard of care followed. the plan to appeal the case. >> investigators say north carolina authorities alerted them that an accused killer was headed to baltimore by bus. a task force began keeping an eye on a number of locations in baltimore. this morning, at the welcome center on i-95, police picked up the 19-year-old bread he has been on the run for more than a month. >> baltimore county police are looking for the persons responsible for swiping $10,000 worth of tires from a school bus yard. someone broke into the province road school bus depot last week and still -- stole 21 tires and rims.

school officials said they plan to upgrade security. city officials have learned many of its schools are in very poor condition. the pricetag to fix up the old school buildings accepted $2.5 billion. more than a third of the school buildings are not only in poor condition, but also underuse. the mayor signed an increase in the city's bottle tax into law designed to upfront school construction. some schools will be forced to expand, merge, or close. >> we must all agree that there are too many schools that we pay the full amount to maintain, but they are badly underutilized. >> school officials said they will use that data to come up with a 10-year building plan. public hearings are planned for the summer. if you would like to look at the report, go to wbaltv.com. >> some encouraging news on the

housing front. hong prices rose to nearly -- in nearly all major -- home prices rose to nearly in all major cities. increases in 19 of the 20 cities attract with an average of 1.3%. that is the second straight month the prices have risen. the attorney-general met with dozens of distressed homeowners deceiving in an effort to help with mortgage settlements. it is all part of an ongoing effort to help homeowners get the relief and assistance that may be available. the attorney general said he wanted to act -- one of the attendees to take one thing away from this workshop, ask for help. >> they do not need to do very much. they need to get a house seat -- housing counselor. $960 million, they want to get

>> police are investigating a shooting in the 4600 block of norfolk avenue. investigators said they found a man shot. he was rushed to the hospital. his condition is not known. there is no word yet on a suspect or a motive.

a man is in the hospital following a forklift accident in howard county. investigators said the man was operating a forklift inside with a whole and top of that. it fell on top of the man. he was rescued from the trailer and put into an ambulance. he is suffering life-threatening injuries. >> anne arundel county officials say to recreation and parks employees used county gas to fill up their personal vehicles. officials alerted authorities. police launched an investigation that revealed they were stealing gas from county sites. >> these individuals are using their county issued gas cards to obtain fuel at the county site. they are using it for personal use is in personal vehicles. >> they now face a theft

charges. if you're thinking about going on the road trip, you can expect to find some relief at the pump. the national average is three hunt -- $3.40. there is better news in the baltimore area. a gallon of regular gas will cost $3.32. some energy experts said the national average could get another dime in time for the fourth of july holiday. >> we have learned for of the firefighters who were reprimanded for their improper posts of mine have lost appeals. earlier this month, a volunteer posted a complaint about a sonic restaurant offering a discount not to firefighters. the managers still says only police and military get the

degrees. well below the record high of 99. skies are clear across the state tonight. you see a little bit of high clouds to our south. those are the outer bands of debby. just off the virginia eastern shore. it is beginning to drift a little farther away. high pressure will lead the temperatures cool love to comfortable levels again. we are seeing temperatures dropped into the lower 60's. by morning, some of those spots will be down to about 52. same high-pressure system coming in from the lakes delivering the very nice summer air. it will stay with us tomorrow and help to keep debby away from

us. it has weakened to a tropical depression. the rainfall totals have been phenomenal. look at the 72-hour rainfall totals, over toward jacksonville, you are well over a foot. with the slow-moving storm still pounding that area, some spots expected to have stormed totals of 25-30 inches of rain. there is the track. south and east of the outer banks of north carolina. high pressure will keep our skies mostly sunny tomorrow. it should be a beautiful day. thursday, the heat will start spreading across the ohio valley. once the hot weather is here, we will have to mention the possibility of thunderstorms for friday for the weekend.
