the northwest at 13. the downtown, the temperature is at 98 at the science center right now. now, the record high for today, 105. i think that will be tough to break. we might get into the hundreds, barely. but to make it 105 might be tough. saturday's highs only 100 but there's a cool front coming in tomorrow. so we'll see. it may be tough to reach these records. but you know what? if it feels like 100, it's uncomfortable out there. we'll talk about the instaweather forecast in just a minute. >> new at noon, police are investigating a suspicious death in owenton earlier this morning. police responded to the royal inn around 5:40. they found a 63-year-old man suffering from an apparent trauma to the upper body. he was taken to baltimore/washington medical center where he later died. anyone with information is asked to call the anne arundel major crimes unit.

>> today, the o'malley administration is applauding the supreme court's decision to uphold most of the president's health care reform law declaring it gives mom item to the law underway in our state. maryland has legislation creating the framework for a marketplace where individuals and small businesses can buy coverage. lieutenant governor anthony brown says the decision is expected to accelerate those efforts while state republicans call the court's ruling disappointing and revealing. >> doubts are eliminated so we redoubled our efforts which is hard to do considering how much we've already been putting into it, but we actually wean -- we'll even move forward with even more drive. they are president today in his response said he disagreed, in fact, that it was a tax but the supreme court has held it's a tax.

>> the health benefit exchange does not rely on state funds but rather on federal grants. the caucus believes taxpayers will pick up the state tax when subsidies run out. many are unsure how they will be affected by the health care reform. companies that have more than 50 employees will be required to provide affordable health insurance for their workers and if they don't, they will be forced to pay a penalty. it is based on complicated formula but start at $2,000 for every worker who doesn't have health assurance. the insurance at one place are concerned about how the supreme court's decision will affect their business. >> it's overly, you know, burdensome to the retailer. any small business. you know, it's unworkable, it's hard to administer and to be penalized as a businessman, we don't need any more expenses.

>> one local economist says in one cases, it may be cheaper for some to pay for the penalty rather than for health insurance. and we have continuing coverage on the health care law ruling on you website. you can hear reaction and get an interactive timeline on how health care has changed over the years. you can find it all on wbaltv.com. the 11 news i team is following an incident on an attorney and his roommate. authorities say they were called to the 500 block of scott street in south baltimore early thursday morning for a report of aggravated assault. that's where they say they found 22-year-old owen bernstein who is the son of gregg bernstein and 30-year-old robert hardie, both with what look like cuts. so far, no charges have been filed but police are investigating. meanwhile, baltimore city's population continues to shrink according to the latest u.s. census numbers. the city lost about 1,500 residents in less than a year

and a half. that dropped baltimore's population to about 619,500 making it the 24th largest city in the nation. baltimore was the 10th largest city back in 1980. washington, d.c. has gained about 1,600 residents in the last 15 months. that's making it one of the fastest growing cities in the country. hundreds of baltimore area catholics are in rome this morning celebrating a special recognition for archbishop william lori. pope benedict gave all the new archbishops at a mass in rome earlier this morning. that is a light vestment. it's made from a wool shorn from lamb and blessed by the pope, given to the new archbishop as part of an annual service. we're going to hear from arch bishop lori on 11 news and on line at wbaltv.com. >> in today's educaon alert, a

they're all related to his brother's crimes. prosecutors say peter madoff has agreed to a prison sentence of 10 years. bernie madoff confessed to running the largest ponzi scheme. he's serving a 150 brizz sentence. president obama is in colorado today to see the areas devastated by the raging wildfires. the waldo canyon fire destroyed more than 300 homes in an area of colorado springs covering 34 streets. that makes this the most destructive fire in the state's history. one person has been found dead but despite the destruction, some area residents are trying to be optimistic. >> it's not the end of the world. you lose some things that you can't replace. but as long as you're alive, we've got us out and our daughter out and our cat out and what else matters? we're alive with family. >> we found out today that our

>> as long as there's ice. that's all with need today because of the heat and humidity. we had some rain tonight. early this morning, right across the northeast corner, cecil county got hit. all out to sea right now. we have a clear shot on radar. you see a couple of little echos back in west virginia and ohio right now. and that's an indication there's a little unsettled atmosphere. show mountains may pick up something this afternoon. let's take a look at the pollen count. if you're sensitive to it, the pollen count are moderate. 813, that puts that in the high range. and speaking of high, temperatures are way up there. 95 in annapolis. 84 in ocean city. that's refreshing. a breeze out of the water there. edgewood, 93. almost 100 in frederick. 99 right now. in which 80's out in far western maryland. it's the dew point temperatures that make the big difference and

the dew point temperatures yesterday were all in the 50's throughout our area in the 70's on the eastern shore. but sensibly here in the urban area, temperatures are in the 70's. today, the dew points are up in the 70's. when you're up there, it feels like a tropical jungle. so those upper 90's to near 100 will feel like 104 at the airport. 105 at west minutesster right now. -- westminster right now. frederick, feels like 109 right now. all right. here we are. at the inner harbor. the sun is shining. we're roasting with these temperatures. a cool front out to the west. that's going to be one brine that might produce a -- boundary that might produce a trigger. some storm activity out in the midwest. and this storm activity will ride along the north end of this ridge and come into the area

overnight night and much like the one did earlier this morning. so that may help to trigger the shower and thunderstorm activity. and we'll repeat the cycle for saturday. so very hot and humid today. isolated thunderstorms west. 96-101 for the high. that would not high or break the record. southwest wind about 10. advise advice and warnings are out throughout almost all of our area. and for boaters in the bay, a refreshing place to be. instaweather forecast shows some rain coming in from the west tonight. so towards midnight, we could see some scattered showers and thunderstorms. and then we set ourselves up for tomorrow. so tonight's forecast, warm and humid. maybe a thunderstorm. 75-80 for the low. that's almost ridiculous, right? and then we go into saturday. here's the departing overnight storms from overnight tonight. and then we have another one come along. and that could affect us on saturday into saturday night and
