for many folks. >> some money continue to adjust to a fifth night of steamy conditions and there is no break in sight for bge. bge reports it is still trying to restore power to 117,000 customers. to give you perspective, 25,000 have seen their power turnon since 6:00. baltimore county continues to have 44,000 customers without electricity. we have team coverage. sheldon and kai reed have the late breaking the tells but we begin with tom tasselmyer. >> we have seen a number of these thunderstorms track through our region. one is weakening now across southern maryland. that is the good news. it is now showing significant signs of weakening.

the bad news is there is another line of thunderstorms on the southern part of lake erie. it is -- it has a history of heavy downpours. a lot of lightning associated with this and the potential for some damaging wind as well. it could get here during the overnight hours and even the for the morning of the fourth of july. sheldon, i am sure the last thing those folks want to here is another batch of thunderstorms is coming this way. >> they say they are going to keep an eye on that storm. a lot of people are gearing up for the holiday but workers will not be going out with their families. there is a lot of work to be done. there are still power lines that have to get cleaned up and now another weather system is

addressing those restoration efforts. slowly but surely, the street lights are coming back on in neighborhoods across the baltimore area. more than 3500 workers have been working 16 hour shifts around the clock to restore power. although there are customers in the dark and another weather system, this crew worked into the night to make sure power gets restored. as another storm threatens the area, bge is monitoring it very closely. >> sometimes conditions can influence the equipment which will delay restoration times. they are working around trees, wires, hazardous conditions. we need to think of the safety of our crews. >> the weather does not look like it will be as bad as friday but there are cautioning customers to be prepared just in case. >> we want to warn customers

that the storms may also impact our restoration efforts. we encourage you to think now about how you might be able to prepare in case we experience another weather system. >> regardless of what it could bring, 4500 power lines have been reported down across the area and utility is urging everyone to be careful. >> should you see a downed wires, you should treat it as though it may be energized and call us immediately. >> we have seen some of downed trees and a lot of these neighborhoods do not have power so it is hard to tell where there might be downed trees. use caution to make sure you're not driving over power lines. >> be careful, sheldon. hundreds of utility workers are

providing reinforcements. many of the utility workers come from all over the country and even as far north as canada, assisting since last weekend. bge will be footing the bill. >> at least 22 people have died as a result of the storms. officials are also concerned about the improper use of generators which can also yield that these results. >> use them safely. place them 20 feet away from your home and make certain it is not been a leading toward the house that would allow carbon monoxide to seep in through the windows and door building. >> carbon monoxide is a lethal because you cannot see it, smell it, or tasted. symptoms are similar to that of a fluke. how are residents dealing with no power for almost one week?

kai reed joins us with that part of the story. >> we spent the day with a lot of frustrated residents who are preparing to spend the fourth of july without power. excuse me, sir, are you without power? >> this parking lot was the perfect retreat for residents with no power and very little water at home. employees handed it out by the gallons for free. the store started out with 23 pallets in the parking lot and they were down to 10 by dinner time. most of the residents have been living in the dark for four days. >> it is hot, sweaty. there is limited water. a limit to everything. >> it has been hard watching everything in my refrigerator going into the trash can. >> i have my refrigerator hooked

up now. and i have a couple of fans going. stuff like that. >> as residents tried to make do at tom, baltimore officials have decided to close this cooling center for the fourth of july holiday. >> with minimal attendance, we will not have cooling centers but we will be able to direct our residents to a place. >> we find people bonding with neighbors and baltimore city. this man lost his power friday night. >> i was calling my neighbors, but we have not had a response. >> although some said they are running out of patience, many say they are appreciative their frustration has sparked camaraderie. because of the heat alert and the power outages, at 18 cooling centers will be open through thursday.
