happening. a little rain and some neighborhoods to start the day. not talking about severe weather. these were fairly big thunderstorms early this morning in pennsylvania but they are dying out and just producing light to moderate rain showers in the northern suburbs. some of these may hold together and drifted to the annapolis area later. our forecast -- a chance for a few showers and maybe a thunderstorm to start today and then it will clear representative. this afternoon i think it will be hot and humid but dry, with a high near 95. we will discuss the forecast for the fireworks this evening and the seven-day when i come back in just a few minutes. >> our big story this morning -- slowly but surely bge crews continue to make progress in reconnecting more than half a million homes that lost power. >> yesterday morning at this time, 181,000 customers were still in the dark. by the end of the day, thanks to

the round-the-clock efforts, that number has been cut down to 117,000. this morning, nearly another 10,000 are waking up with power but there are still 108,000 customers waiting for their lights and a/c to come on. jennifer franciotti is live at the bge staging area with the lyric -- with the very latest. >> for those still without electricity, that would be the ultimate fourth of july fireworks, to see the lights go back on. he would have thought it was a little things like the electricity that really means the most. standing by me as rather -- is rob gould. pretty soon this parking lot will be a ghost town. >> it will be empty in short order. that is good. when customers are saying i am not seeing a truck anywhere, all you have to do is look at these trucks and think about the fact this is mirrored at the eastern

part, lockheed martin and other facilities, a lot of trucks and people. 1300 out of state contractors in addition to bge crews, which brings the total to 4000 people. we had about 6300 for hurricane irene and we had a week's heads up to bring all of them in. >> these guys are coming from all over the area and they will do everything from assessment to tree removal and working on the lines. >> these guys are the ones to be very active -- cutting away the trees and clearing them. they literally will fix the of poles and reset them and strength low wire and reenergize. it sounds simple but there are some jobs that literally take all day and they will work 12, 14, 16-hour days. >> you have been very clear and not telling people when they will be getting your electricity back. but now you are going to start doing it on a limited basis. >> where we have the crews on the scene and they can identify the problem and they know they

can fix it by a certain time, then we will provide that information to customers. but we are being very deliberate. we have to have absolute high confidence that we are going to say what we are going to do and meet the delivery. >> thank you for joining us. we want to tell you, too, we heard a lot of nice stories from these contractors about people feeding them and saying hi and thank you. we did just year a pretty bad story -- one of the contractors said he was working out there and somebody shot fire works out them. that is plain and simple not safe and not appreciated. they are out there working as hard as they can and that are coming in it from out of state, and it is their fourth of july. i know a lot of people being cynical saying they are being paid well -- but it is a safety issue and the working hard, 12- 16-hour days. we have heard more good stories the bad stories, and that is a good thing.
