constellation energy group] >> this is wbal-tv 11 news at 6:00. >> we start with a live view from our sky cam. temperatures are still in the upper 90's. let's turn it over to john collins for a look at how the weather will be tonight. >> temperatures will back off from the hundred's -- the 100's earlier this afternoon. we have dropped back to 97. the inner harbor is not reporting. the thermometer broke. at bwi marshall, the new high was 103 degrees. virtually all of the readings are in the 100's right now. 102 is the reading at the airport. with the high temperatures, that is a lot of moisture in the air. we have a light breeze at 10

miles an hour. it feels like 104 at the airport. it feels like almost 110 it solves. . 105 at westminster. -- it feels like almost 110 at salisbury. sheldon dutes is in the heat and monitoring. he tells us what it is like at the stadium. >> it is very toasty outside. i use this as the one excuse out of the year to wear shorts to work today. firefighters at the african- american festival have treated up to 20 people for heat-related illnesses. folks are determined to have fun and trying to stay cool. as temperatures climbed into triple digits, people at the african-american festival did whatever they could to stay cool. misting zones, fans, and bottled water helped to beat the heat.

as anyone will tell you, it is still hot. >> not as hot as afghanistan right now. that is a plus for us right now. the uniform is an honor to where anytime you can. >> volunteer firefighters were on hand for emergencies. across the state, nine people have died from extreme heat. doctors are urging everyone to be mindful. >> protect themselves as much as possible. light clothing, using an umbrella, shave. >> emergency rooms have seen an increase in patients from heat- related illnesses because of the power outages and heat. officials are encouraging everyone to check on elderly people and those with special needs. sheldon dutes, wbal-tv 11 news. >> some are having worse luck than others with temperatures.

for several thousand marylander s, today is day 8 without electricity or air conditioning. more than 1/3 of the outages are in anne arundel county. only about 650 of all of the outages were caused by the storms. emergency cooling centers have been open all day to help folks cope with the high heat. 11 news stopped by the north community action center where residents were able to find relief with ice cold water and a cool place to relax. >> i came in to get me a bottle of water. me and my girlfriend, we ordered some food. we're going to sit in here and eat it. >> we have posted locations of the cooling center on our website, wbaltv.com. in also find them with our free smartphone apps.

businesses are finally getting back to normal after suffering a water main break. it is the second break this week in the same area. businesses have to wait until nearly 11:00 a.m. to use their water. a few days ago, a section of the road had to be shut down while crews got another break under control. americans across the nation are under tight water restrictions. with drought increasing the threat of wildfires, everyone wants to know when they cool down is coming. we take a closer look does recover the nation. >> in washington, d.c., it is the kind of record cities never want to separate a 10-day streak of 95 degrees plus heat. for most of us, it is an inconvenience. for senior citizens, it is life or death. >> it is harder for them to thermal regulate and deal with extreme temperatures.

>> in the heartland, the extreme heat is threatening crops. just about everywhere, is making life miserable. st. louis topped 100 degrees for 10 straight days. that is only good for its second longest run of triple digit misery. in kansas city, 107 degrees. it was a perfect day to be at the beach like these lucky few in treasure island, florida. it was no walk in the park, so to speak, in new york's central park. >> we did not have a winter this year. we are making up for it. for the east coast cooler temperatures are on the way but so are storms. >> police need your help finding a teenager missing for days. more on that after the break.

>> maryland state troopers are trying to determine what caused a driver to go off the expressway. he was traveling around 6:00 when his truck went over the embankment. calloway was pronounced dead on the scene. state police are waiting on the medical examiner's report. baltimore city police officer is recovering from minor injuries after a car crash downtown. it happened friday night. we're told another person was

treated for non-life-threatening injuries. still no word on the circumstances surrounding the crash or who was at fault. city officers are looking for suspects in two overnight shootings, both in west baltimore. the first have been around 10:30 on friday night. we're told the victim was able to walk to the hospital for treatment for gunshot wound to the paste. an 18-year-old man was shot on baker street. he was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound in the lower back. he is expected to survive. both men were involved in physical altercations leading up to the shootings. police are asking for your help in locating in missing teenager. 15-year-old cameron wilkerson was last seen on thursday on edison avenue. he was last seen wearing a white shirt with white shorts and black sneakers. we're told he suffers developmental disabilities. anyone with information on his

whereabouts is asked to call 911 immediately. covering the world tonight, london marks the seventh anniversary of one of the city's worst terrorist attacks today. in 2005, 52 were killed and hundreds of others were injured in a series of bombings. with just three weeks until it hosts the olympics, officials are beefing up security. there have been six terra- related arrests in the last few days. for the first time since world war ii, the military will take over the city air space. we are joined by john. there is a lack of words besides oppressive. >> a lot of folks are still without power. a miserable day. there is some relief in sight. we will talk about that in the forecast.

forecast and a break in the heat. thunderstorms in pennsylvania. two batches. the one east is more impressive. warnings are going up. this is headed more to the south and southeast. it is not coming down to baltimore. these storms will have a tougher time getting organized. there is a front slowly working its way southward. that will eventually break the heat. it will be a long process. we are back a couple of degrees from the highs and hour or two ago. it might be more useful to say who is not at 100. 99 at cambridge. 101, annapolis. elkins, 100. it is 86 in oakland. there is a little relief in the mountains. here is the satellite imagery with thunderstorm clusters along the cold front. it is slowly moving to the

south. some of the storms may get into northern maryland overnight. we are in the humid air mass. when the front rows through -- goes through, it will take the humidity down and push the hottest air to the south. the orange will be headed south tomorrow into monday. slightly cooler or more normal air coming in. we will eventually see 80's instead of 70's. all kinds of advisories until 10:00 this evening for heat, high humidity, and dangerous conditions, and also because of the activity north of us. there is a slight risk of severe weather baltimore northward tonight. most of that will be in pennsylvania. we will see what happens. tonight, warm and humid. maybe a thundershower. 77 to 83 for the overnight low. we're back in the 90's tomorrow.

this is still hot and humid, just not as extreme. thunderstorms likely tomorrow. some could be severe. this area size to the south so we will be on the north edge of it. it shows the storms passing through and giving up. the futurecast gives us a good chance of thunderstorms finally coming through in the afternoon and evening. into monday, we could see scattered showers. ocean city, a warm night tonight. rain in the forecast sunday into monday. the 7-day forecast, here's the important thing. 95 tomorrow. in the 80's for highs all next week. 60's for the lows. there are on and off again share -- rain shower chances. most of the time, it will not be raining and more comfortable. >> the orioles are looking for
