constellation energy group] >> fire officials are trying to figure out what sparked an early morning fire that destroyed 24 apartment units in baltimore county just before 1:00 this morning in randallstown. sheldon dutes joins us live with the latest. >> there is some good news. no injuries were reported. there is no official count on a number of people displaced. some of the units were vacant. they do not have an official count of those in the occupied units. firefighters said a could have been worse. here is video recorded. the flames are remarkable. they escaped through the roof of the apartment building. the fire happened before 1:00 hundred in the garden view apartment complex.

-- before 1:00 in the morning in the garden the apartment complex. they think it may have started in the third floor unit and spread to the attic. 34 units were damage. firefighters estimate 17 were occupied. firefighters have a fire under control in about one-and-a-half hours. but the fire was contained to that apartment and the attic area. >> a lot of water damage to the area. residents were displaced due to the water damage. >> the leasing office and red cross are helping the displaced by a temporary place to stay. no injuries have been reported. firefighters say a working smoke alarms alerted all occupants to get out of the building. sheldon dutes, wbal-tv 11 news. >> baltimore county fire crews responded to another fire at home undergoing renovations on

gettysburg avenue. flames broke out before 10:00 last night. the fire spread to a wooded area. it took 150 firefighters more than an hour to get it under control. no one was living in the home of the time. investigators are working to determine the cause. the search is on for the man who walked into an ellicott city spa and opened fire. they are offering a reward. he is accused of two counts of first and second-degree attempted murder and assault. police say he shot a female acquaintance and a man inside the spa. they said he was visiting his estranged girlfriend workplace when he saw the man waiting to pick her up. both victims are in critical condition at shock trauma. police have yet to identify the man found dead in the woods in dundalk. the body was found behind the exxon gas station.

authorities believe the body had been at the location some time. they sent it to the state medical examination office. no word on the cause of death. police are investigating an accident between a motorcycle and vehicle that claimed the life of a baltimore city man. smith was traveling south on interstate 83 in baltimore county around 1:30 this morning when he collided with a car. preliminary investigation reveals he had been traveling in a high rate of speed. police say he had marijuana in his possession. there is no word on whether alcohol and drugs were a factor in the crash. >> a hot one today. temperatures well into the 90's. almost oppressive as far as the conditions are concerned. we're adding the chance of scattered thunderstorms. some of the clouds look

>> the fallout continues for penn state following the investigation into the jerry sandusky sex abuse scandal. one big question right now, the impact on the football program. some are suggesting the university's current leaders suspend football for a least a year. the n.c.a.a. will step in with its own sanctions if the program is not penalized. >> if they play football come september at penn state, something is wrong. >> as for joe paterno's legacy, he says the report does irreparable damage to his impact on the school. he says it proves he was a composite and enabled sandusky.

>> the countdown is on for the 2012 olympic games. for organizers in london, there are major challenges causing concerns. the big two, transportation and security. final preparations are under way before the majority of athletes and officials began arriving. trains and buses are already packed at rush hour. there are concerns public transportation systems will not be able to handle the extra people. around 500,000 visitors are expected to arrive in london between july and august. officials are trying to reassure people things will run smoothly. some say travel is going to be chaos. >> the roads are going to be chaos. >> when you consider that millions of people are coming in.
