the first happened at 6:00 p.m. lightning hit this house. they lost power. they got out safely but their house is destroyed. >> i cannot get in the house yet to see if anything is salvageable. again, we are alive. >> firefighters responded to another fire in annapolis. lightning may have traveled three better conductor in the home and spark a fire in the basement. >> there is a big broken water main in downtown baltimore. it should be replaced -- three years ago, both laws cannot. officials say they are taking steps to prevent similar situations in the future. >> we are going to go for a much less than 5 miles to 20 miles.

the maryland court of appeals ruled police could no longer collect dna samples from certain suspects after a rest. the change was sparked by the supreme court looking at someone convicted of a to does a great case on dna evidence taken after his arrest in 2009. the court of appeals ruled that his first a member rights had been violated. >> the supreme court said until you have a chance to look at this, we are going to -- [inaudible] >> this new order to allow dna sample connection will stay in effect and tell -- until the state's position happens. jennifer franciotti, wbal-tv 11 news. >> thank you. martin o'malley says a new gambling regulations will be ready for tomorrow. this came after a 90 minute meeting on wednesday.

the latest on severe storms -- two fires in anne arundel county. this happened around 6:00 p.m. wednesday night. crews responded to one in annapolis. like it may have caused both incidents. martin o'malley says he will have new gaming legislation by tomorrow for lawmakers to review. the governor met with a delegation wednesday to discuss a possible special session. they will meet to scrutinize the proposed gaming bill. the governor will decide within the next 10 days whether to call a special session. >> in the its station alert -- in the education alert, the latest about the dream act. the dream act allow undocumented immigrants to pay

friday and an isolated chance of storms early next week. >> a big story this morning is a major ruling with a big impact on police investigation. jennifer franciotti is live with details. >> good morning. while the supreme court is a maryland law enforcement cannot collect dna samples from certain suspects because it was back in april that the maryland court of appeals said police could not collect after an arrest. that changes sparked by the request of the supreme court to look at the case of a man convicted in 2003 of a rape based on dna evidence taken after his 2009 arrest. the board of appeals said his amendments -- his rights had been violated. an attorney says the supreme court is saying until we get a chance to look at this, they will put the brakes on the maryland court of appeals decision. that is as it stands now.
