michael phelps is one metal short of shattering olympic records now that the u.s. men's swimming team took home the silver. his fourth place finish at a 400 has some critics speculated. >> i do not think he trained as hard this year. >> i thought he was very confused after he lost. i felt bad for him finishing fourth. i think he will do well. >> his performance has been making headlines here and across the pond. his sister says that she is surprised by the attention. >> you cannot focus on the negativity because that will drag you down. have to keep moving forward with your mind focused on what you are doing. and keep plugging along. >> that is what he plans to do. with a few more swimming against left, supporters and baltimore are remaining optimistic. >> i am reading for michael phelps from maryland. we want to see him -- for our country and our state. >> i hope he get that medal.

two kitchen fires had emergency crews busy tonight. first was on the 5000 block in columbia road. ase fire.gres meantime, investigators broke into an apartment after getting 911 calls. the smoke in the kitchen set the alamrm off. a baltimore city firefighter was rushed to the hospital. he was battling a blaze in east baltimore and suffered a burn to his hand. the firefighter has and released from the hospital. the police commissioner has a few more days before he officially retires. as a proper sendoff, he threw the first pitch at the orioles game today. he says he will miss his job at the department, but is looking forward it to what he will do

is important to note -- the community to know that we take all threats seriously. if you are going to make a threat, we will take action. >> officials say they found that 25 firearms and several thousand rounds of ammunition. as memorial services were held over the weekend for colorado shooting victims, suspect james holmes a way to a court hearing on monday. court documents show james holmes is treated by psychiatrists before the shooting. >> this weekend was filled with funeral and memorial services. suspect james holmes is scheduled to be formally charged in court monday but friends and families of the victim are still trying to come to grips with what happened. >> in moments of crisis, you do not have time to think. you only have time to react. >> a court document disclosed that james holmes's visited a

psychiatrist before last week's attack. a package was seized during a search last week. a former denver prosecutor agrees with the decision. >> any communication between the defendant and the psychiatrists are protected. we do not know when the last time was he had any communications with her. we do not know the nature of those communications. those communications are protected. >> a psychologist weighed in on patient-doctor confidentiality. >> when a patient is a clear and imminent danger to a specific person, then we have an obligation to warn that person or family members and also the authority. >> james holmes is accused of killing 12 and wounding dozens.

>> new details from the president of penn state. university will probably have to give his athletic department along term loan to pay that $60 million fine. speaking on face the nation, he said a combination of funds including the football programs financial reserves will be used to pay the fine. the n.c.a.a. handed down the fine last week. a 33-year-old post office was shut down tuesday. the small post office in brown's bill was run of the home of a 60-year-old woman. she decided to retire after officials cut the operation's hours. postal service officials have been urging congress to take action on the bill as they are facing a debt of $13 billion. it was an event with so many problems as some did not think it would come back, but the

he is 91 years old. he was seen at 6:30 yesterday. he was wearing a green t-shirt and white shorts and driving a gray chevy. construction will start monday for this year's grand prix race track. the first jersey. will be placed downtown. -- barrier will be placed in downtown. the race will begin august 31. tickets are on sale now. just as we are getting used to those lower gas prices, reports say they are going back up. gas prices rose 9 cents per gallon over the past two weeks. the nationwide average is $3.50 per gallon. the current price is 20 cents lower than the average price last year. the average price in maryland is at $3.47 for a gallon of regular.
