work in the city and rural areas. under a joint marketing agreement to buy verizon and comcast would get the right to sell its other services by u.s. senators representing maryland worry about the impact of such a plan. >> i think we have to review that carefully. i am making sure the people of baltimore are not discriminated against. >> in a july 26 letter, senators barbara mikulski and ben carter raised the issues of affordability, competition, consumers, and jobs. bryson has not deploy its fios fiber optic network in baltimore. among their concerns, people of color and low-income households will be disproportionately affected. >> it is the competitive nature. it is the type of transaction that provides less competition. less competition means less jobs

and not as much service. side of on the wrong the digital divide. there will be no fiber-optic accessibility for schools, for businesses, and for jobs. >> the mayor has urged internet providers to increase access to broadband in baltimore. she has provided funding to upgrade the fiber network. a spokesman said we have not commented on this issue because this is a federal regulatory matter between the sec and to private companies. comcast would not comment. the spokesman for ricin would not comment on concerns raised by critics but says nothing has been announced in maryland yet. these joint ventures are happening in areas where there is no fios service. in florida, customers could receive a new cell phone and a

neighborhood will breathe easier. >> i am still not walking along. i have pepper spray a have in my hands. >> the robbery remains under investigation. she has heard the suspects may have moved on to canton. >> in baltimore city spent the better half of this morning into the afternoon repairing another water main break. this one in the 2800 block of kirk ave. >> that same line broke, flooding dozens of basements in 2009. >> dpw turn on the water here a couple of hours ago. as you can imagine, residents are very frustrated because they tell us the last time this happened three years ago, their basements were flooded and the city did nothing about it and

they feel the same thing will happen again. it was around midnight thursday a 16-inch water main broke, sending water cascading onto nearby abbottstownn. >> this is the second time that there was a water main break. the residents are frustrated. that is somewhat of an understatement. >> three years ago almost to the exact date, the exact same thing happened and the same resident'' basements were flooded. >> it was unbelievable. >> i want to cry. pumping 24 gallons of water a minute. i do not know what i have lost, i have not had a chance to assess it, i cannot get down to

the basement. >> in 2009, the city met with them and they filled out the forms. in the end -- >> the result was that there was a letter in the mail saying it was not the city's fall. >> this is the same stretch of road, the same pipe broken. that we saw three years ago. >> officials admit there is a problem with the line but could not say what. we noticed the line did not look that old but dpw says there is no way at this point to tell how old is. as far as the residents are concerned, we were told they would get help. >> there is a problem here and this is what is going on. to make sure we address this thing not just now but in the long run. >> when that help will come is anyone's guess but the city has started to pump out some of the basements in this neighborhood.

>> federal officials say they are investigating an incident where three passenger planes came close to each other. heavy rain forced air traffic controllers to make changes in the direction of departments or landings. there was a miscommunication and those changes were not relate to everyone who needed to know. as a result, two planes taking off and one plane coming in did not have the appropriate distance. an air-traffic controller realized the mistake and the collisions work reported. none of the jets were ever headed toward each other. >> the new location in tal sen. how many jobs it is expected to create. >> tropical storm ernesto is on

10 knots and waves around 1 foot. in the western maryland mountains, a chance for an afternoon thunderstorm, warmer and more humid over the next couple of days with highs around deep creek lake reaching the 80's. arrest of an afternoon storm. if you're heading to ocean city, mid- to upper 80's. in the tropical atlantic, the headline is tropical storm ernesto that has formed. winds are up to 50 miles per hour. it is headed for the caribbean. conditions will be primed for further strengthening so at the end of this forecast, that category one hurricane is five down -- based on a road as it is making its approach toward the yucatan in mexico.
