unemployment rate in maryland stands at 6.9%. job creation is a key issue in the upcoming election. yesterday we did see stocks continued to tumble. the president if failed to reassure investors to fix the crisis in europe. facebook shares dropped another 4%. they disclosed as many as one in 12 of their accounts could be duplicates or fakes. one navy veteran said he was told his wake time would be 4116 minutes before he could speak to an actual person. he wanted to talk about a contract. lawmakers say this is an example

100,000 jobs in july. the debt in europe and the looming prediction in the u.s. that congress may not cut a deal on the budget leaving us with tax hikes and spending cuts. you can bet we'll hear about the report today out on the campaign trail because it will have an effect. president obama will be speaking from the white house and mitt romney will be speaking in nevada. >> are there any bright spots in the economy? >> it does seem a little of gloom and doom. shopping is doing pretty well. better than expected sales at many stores. about 9% more. that is one of the bigger jobs we have seen since last april.

80 degrees at the inner harbor. 73 at the airport. a mild start to the day. the humidity is running high. dew points around 70 degrees. we have 70 in gaithersburg. 68 in annapolis. that will make it feel even hotter into the afternoon. we take a look at the tropics. we're still in hurricane season. this is a tropical storm ernesto and still traveling out towards the west. it could strengthen over the water with not too much wind shear and it could strengthen into a hurricane. may be heading for the yucatan peninsula. for now, ernesto is not too big of a concern for the united states. we have just a few clouds.

high pressure is in control. more thunderstorms as we head into the weekend. high pressure will be moving in. highs around 94 for baltimore and d.c. just about anybody could see an isolated thunderstorm this afternoon. maybe with some of heavier downpours. the best chance to see a storm will be afternoon. 89 degrees with hot and humid conditions. that storm could be possible throughout the evening. we are partly cloudy tonight with a low into the mid 70's. we decrease our temperatures over the next couple of days. a chance for storms on sunday and into monday as a cold front swings through. >> be careful.
