final impression of excellence. nathan adrian brought it home. phelps gave thanks to his teammates and opponents and everyone in the building. smiles of relief and acceptance. there is kobe bryant. the greatest swimming career of all time comes to an end. one week ago some question if you would even medal. what a difference. >> i refuse to believe this is the end. >> i am with you on that. we will see in four years. >> here is the latest count. united states has 54. china remains in second with 53. the host country is the third. now that the final race is over for phelps, he says he is retired.

dear dear fitzpatrick is in london with reaction. >> i could not be more happy, but those words from michael phelps as he goes out with another gold medal. he and his teammates won a gold in the four by 100 medley. he says that is the perfect way to go out. >> i have been fortunate to look back at my career and say i have accomplished every goal i have wanted to. i think at that point, it is just time to move on. there are other things i want to do in my life. i am not sure staring at a black line for four hours a day is one of those. there are a lot of things i want to do for myself to be able to relax.

even though i am retiring, there are still things that i want to do a wrap the sport, i teach kids to learn how to swim and live active and healthy life styles is important to me. i am going to have fun. i do not know. i am out of it still. >> he says tonight -- the reality will start setting in in the next couple of weeks. he says he looks forward to traveling and playing golf. normal retirement stuff. >> now that we heard from the baltimore swimmer himself, and now we hear from the fans at home. taking in a final swim with the hometown crowd. >> of that hometown crowd wants another go around for phelps but

if not, and they had a blast cheering him on for the last time. [applause] you knew it the wish she had moments before michael phelps slam what he says was his last olympic race. the feeling was mutual in the lobby of this club in west baltimore where the phelps faithful gathered to watch a live feed of the mid the relay. >> he is going to go out on top, no doubt about it. it is the call maine -- combination of the greatest olympian ever. >> the tension in the room was palpable. they were pumped. some could not handle the noise. when that the u.s. gold was secured, the place went crazy. >> it was pure joy. people celebrating and enjoying

>> now your insta-weather plus forecast with tony pann. >> we have to bank tropical storms out there. this is the first one. it is passing south of san juan and the dominican republic right now. it is going to travel across the yucatan peninsula and into the gulf of mexico. this is the current forecast. maximum winds of 60 miles an hour. it should cross the yucatan on wednesday and go back into the

gulf of mexico wednesday or thursday as a hurricane. that is something we have to watch. the second storm is florence. this one is way out there and just off the african coast. most of the models take this one further north. florence might be something that the east coast has to watch. we are talking 10, 12 days away. but it will be approaching the east coast of the united states. it is a tropical storm right now. they will probably both become hurricanes over the next 48 hours. nothing going on here at tom. we are watching all line of storms out of ohio. this one produced gusts over 80 miles an hour. i think it is going to fall apart by the time it gets toward us. some of those showers may hold together. but we will probably start out

with quiet conditions. 81 at the airport. 77 degrees. we are also watching a cold front out of the midwest. this will take care of the heat. on the other side of the front, the 50's and 60's. when they bump together, often you get severe weather. that could be the case for tomorrow. it will be late in the afternoon. at the morning, some left over rain showers. there is the possibility of some heavy rain and may be damaging winds and a slight chance for tornado. we will see how it develops. partly cloudy skies and muggy conditions. temperatures will drop back into the mid 70's. during the day tomorrow, a mixture of clouds and sunshine. some of those could be strong or severe.

i temperatures between 90 and 95. on the day tomorrow, watch out for lightning. it is going to be choppy in the afternoon. the seven day forecast, as we go into the beginning of the week, scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible. the humidity is going to go down by tuesday and wednesday. the middle of the week should be nice and by the time we get to the end of the week, the chance for rain will go up. but the hot conditions should be gone over the next couple of days. >> pete is here. much more coming up on michael phelps. >> i tell you what, it will not go away. they have some offense to do it.
