>> good evening, i'm deborah weiner. we have our eyes to the skies. hot, breezy day and then thunderstorms moved through town. meteorologist lowell melser here with our insta-weather plus alert. lowell? >> it's cooled off quite a bit outside. if we look at hd doppler, can see why.

a strong line of thunderstorms made its way through the area, probably within the last half hour or so. and now strongest rains are located on the eastern shore around elkton and parts of the northern chesapeake bay. taking a look at temperatures outside right now out at the airport, it's about 95 degrees earlier. you can see 76 degrees right now. dew point around 72. humidity still pretty high out there at 87%. and at the inner harbor, it's cooled down also where it's about 97 earlier today. 81 right now. there is another line of thunderstorms behind this one. we will tell you when we can expect that to approach in our insta-weather plus forecast in a couple minutes. >> lowell, thank you. it's been an exciting weekend around maryland as our own michael phelps can officially be called the best ever. the baltimore native ends his career with wane in the men's 4 by 100 meter medley. that gives michael 22 medals in his olympic career, 18 gold. he stands as the most decorated

and men's singles. >> biggest win in my life for sure. >> the triumph follows a super saturday that put britain in third place for medals, nation's best day in the olympics at over 100 years. some of the country's red royal mailboxes are turning to gold. after a singles championship saturday, serena williams paired with sister venus to win once again today in doubles. it's their third olympic gold as a team. this morning the women's marathon raced past the city's iconic site. ethiopia's tiki galana won in olympic record time. americans flannigan and goucher played 10th and 11th and the man with the record for olympic medals is beginning life after the games. last night's relay win gave michael phelps his 18th gold medal and 22nd overall. >> i can look back at my career and say i've been able to do everything i wanted to. >> this day also saw the first-ever bounce in women's olympic boxing.

>> caught up with the group of western maryland catholics outside the basilica in downtown baltimore. more than 20 young people left ipods, video games and luxuries to make the trek from hancock to baltimore. they walk 13d miles every day for 8 days and stayed at hosts along the way and say they prayed about a recent controversial government ruling that would require all employers to provide contraceptive as workers as part of a health benefit package. the group concluded the walk by celebrating mass at the basilica this afternoon. >> we love our country. we love our land and our government. we love our president, our governor and we love him so much he decided to do prayer and penance and walk this way because as christians and bible believers, jesus walked all over israel. >> the religious freedom walk raised money along the way with all contributions going to the st. vinceant's house of baltimore and interfaith coalition of hancock. wblewble.

>> -- wbal-tv 11 news. >> sheldon, thank you. >> a gunman walked into a sikh and opened fire as hundreds gathered for benefits. seven people are dead, including the gunman. the latest developments from brian moore. >> a gunman burst into a sikh temp down in walk during a morning prayer service. after firing on several victims, he died in a shootout with the police officer. four defeat insidest temple and dee dee feet outside of the temple, one of whom is the shooter. >> police were summoned by a series of frantic 9 11 calls. moments later a veteran officer was in a deadly gunfight. >> our officer, 20-year veteran was ambushed, shot multiple times. he's currently at the hospital undergoing surgery. we expect him to recover. and another officer who was on scene was engaged by the suspect, our officer did engage

that individual and that individual is is -- >> dozens of people, mostly immigrants, were teapeding a service at the time of the shooting. there might have been three times as many people there a few hours late are. after the gunfire ended, terrified temple goers remained inside and in hiding fearing there were adegsal gunman. >> my mother was one. she was hiding in the closet at the time calling for her phone and shutting off the phone every time somebody walked by. >> after swat officers searched the facility, she found no additional shooters. outside the temple, the targets in this tragedy were asking why them, why here, why now? >> the biggest question we have is this a hate crime? i mean, what did we do wrong? >> in suburban wisconsin, a crime that sent shockwaves around the world, a place of peace shaken by unspeakable violence. brian moore, wbal-tv 11 news.

>> maryland lawmakers are getting trod go back to work. this week a special session begins and you will remember governor o'malley called the sessions to talk gambling and expanding them in the state. the senate is already on board and house speaker michael bush said there are enough votes in the chamber for passage. statehouse leaders believe the session can be completed in three days. it's scheduled to be begin thursday. wild flames rising high into the sky, entire neighborhoods gone. this weekend wildfires sweeping through oklahoma and we are hearing one blaze may have been purposely set. plus, it's being called the most complex space mission ever just hours from now nasa's mars rover will land on the red planet.

>> firefighters in oklahoma are struggling to control more than a dozen blazes that scorched much of the state and extremely dry weather isn't helping. these wildfires burned about 80,000 acres of land forcing hundreds to evacuate and droy destroying homes. some residents hit the hardest say they've lost everything. >> with a tornado at least there would have been hope to search around and try to find some of our stuff. but this is just gone. demolished. >> police in oklahoma county are searching for suspected arse in any event may have caused one of the fire. nasa's mars rover team is preparing for a landing on the red planet later today. nasa held a news conference at the jet propulsion laboratory. scheduled to land 1:30 eastern time. apparently they will study the of to city if it was or now

>> if you blink, you might have missed it. talking about the strong line of thunderstorms here that just making its way over into the northern portion of the eastern shore right now over into cecil county, folks out there just watch when these things move through. they have the poem packing 50 to 60-mile-an-hour winds. now that those are moving out, another thing we will watch out west towards the west virginia area, south of wheeling, heading into oakland is this other line of thunderstorms here which could give us grief as they make their way over the mountains, probably around from 8 to 11:00 tonight. if you look at the temperatures around the area, you could see what the rain did or where exactly it is. the front extend along here and you can differences in temperatures. on the even shore they're in the 90's except in ocean city. behind this look at this is, 75 in westminster, that's great. 75 at the airport. 77 in frederick and 80 degrees

in hagerstown. a nice night until the storms make their way through. again, you can see how these storms came throughout the afternoon and where they're going. again, i lot of cloud cover in a second upper level front that we're watching that again could bring us thunderstorms later this evening. our current weather again shows that line and it's a pretty well defined front, surprisingly not that strong, even though it's well defined. this is actually being caused by this front right here throughout the middle of the country here and bringing -- pushing ahead a little of this humid air and behind it though very nice, high pressure which could give us some nice weather over the next several days. once this front finally moves out of here probably into monday evening and possibly tuesday. so i think monday though we will see a lot of rain and i will tell you about that in a couple minutes. as far as watches and warnings, pretty much the entire channel 11 viewing area under a thunderstorm watch. do you have some warnings right no as we saw some of those reds

and purples moving through the elkton area and portions of the northern eastern shore. just keep an eye on that if you're heading out this evening. as far as your forecast for tonight though, it looks pretty good. chilly as a matter of fact if you want to call 70's chilly. we're used to the 90's. showers and thunderstorms as we head throughout the evening. spotty in places. just keep an eye. future cast will show as we head through this morning noon tomorrow afmente lot of cloud cover. spotty showers here and there and tomorrow afternoon. i think once we hit around probably 3:00 in the afternoon we think we will start to see a little clearing. some of this is upper slelf clouds. heading into tuesday, it should be nice. what we can expect tomorrow, 82 to 86. morning showers giving way to afternoon clearing and then for your seven-day, again, 80's, heading into probably wednesday. we will see 90's and heading towards the rest of the week, warms up again 92 on thursday and then our next chance for

although police say no signs of foul play. garrett struggled with drug abuse for years, spending seven months in prison in 2007. andy reid is not with team now but expected to return later this week. turning our attention back to the olympic games in london. friendly reminder, we're about to show you the results of some of the events you will see in primetime later tonight. right other on wbal. if you would like to remain surprised, turn away for 15 seconds or so. here we go with results. primetime coverage starts at 7:00 and runs five full hours sunday evening. crown the fastest man alive in the 100-meter dash. and check out finals in diving. now you can look. home court versus home court this morning, wimbledon for the men's singles final. roger federer on center court, winning seven titles. andy murray, he calls great britain home. no ghost for the wimbledon time four weeks ago when murray feld to federer.
